Sat Sri Akal:

If I was a Sikh, I would gladly greet the sangat with Guru Sahib's Fateh. As I have not taken amrit, I am not deserving, worthy or allowed to say Guru Sahib's Fateh or be called a Sikh. :umm: (But that will change!).

The word Panch is equivalent of the word Panj, or five. The root word Panch is found in the word Panchayat, which is still the 5 village elders who make decisions for the village. I have been told that Bhai Sahib Bhai Randheer Singh made this point in one of his books (perhaps someone can confirm?). Of course, some words in Guru Granth Sahib can have more than one meaning...

Amirt is just the basics steps to becoming a sikh. Okay, lets compare this with a College. One must apply to the school of choice and then when they get admission they go through a series of tests, quizes, courses and what have you. When one is blessed with Amrit Naam, they are given entry to the school of Guru sahib. It is only the BEGINNING steps. One grows wiser with experience, they realize their mistakes, and improve on their studying skills.

The Punj Pyara are your advisors, who guide you from right and wrong, and tell in which direction you have to go. Ad Shri Guru Granth Sahib, is what we have to study. And in order to graduate ( get mukti from this janum) we must read it, love it, and live by it.

Just my two cents....

i give up

if u dont want to take amrit, and u consider sikhi and the gurus unimportant, just dont take it, but dont expect a hug and pat on the back grin.gif

waheguru ji, If you are taking offense to my last post, i've said noting which proves that Taking Amrit is Wrong, Im just trying to understand it whether taking amrit is as necessary as doing Simran?? rolleyes.gif

ohh.. i see where you are coming from veer..

heres the thing, you see the importance of simran.. but you dont see the connection to amrit. But heres what sikhi says, without amrit, you cannot do simran. Amrit is getting the naam, now from panj, which is guru sahibs roop, before it was charan pahul and guru sahib in human form.

So without getting naam from panj, what simran are you doing? you cannot do simran, and if you could, without rehat it is like filling a strainer with milk!

so if i udnerstand you correctly, Taking Amrit is Before Simran, implying that Taking amrit is on a higher level than simran??

My apologies if i did not understand it as you intended.

wow ... why should we partake amrit.. for me im just following it because its my GURU's HUKAM. And I dont question my guru. :umm:

But pheena ji.. let me tell you something.. in every religion there's something called baptism.. muslim;s & chiristians too baptised. U and I are born in the SIKH religion! Hence we should baptised in the manner that is told my our GURUJI.

Secondly saying that partaking amrit is not important is not right. Please see my post in one of the topics here about 5k's where i put a story about husband and wife. We have and i repeat again have to be pure in and out. It is not done by saying that we are pure from inside hence there's no need for us to partake amrit. IF you are really PURE from inside and really LOVE guruji.. you will NEVER question GURUJI in the first place.

Partaking amrit is one of the cycle of our life. There are four cycles: BIRTH, AMRIT, ANAND KARAJ, DEATH. Please note that amrit comes before anand Karaj. If partaking amrit wasnt necessary for us; why should guruji equal Khalsa to him; KHalsa mero roop hai Kaas.. Khalsa here means (PURE) .. how should one be PURE.. he has to be ONE with his body, mind and soul.

Comparing ourselves to high avasta like bhagat kabir & farid would not bring us anyway. Well i am no where to be compared to them. Partaking amrit is just a start. It is to disciplin

e ourselves so that we can take control of our mind. IT is a discipline that makes us wake up in wee hours in the morning to do simran and our nitnem. By doin it everyday it will be a habit for us. :umm: GIve it a try and you will understand what I am trying to say here.

Partaking amrit is VERY important for all SIKHS.
