hahaha i'm gonna guess, deadquote, that if you got into a debate, anyone who defended THEIR side of the debate, you would call it preaching..

face it, you're preaching about not preaching... and if you don't like it, don't listen.. it'll reach those souls who need it, and who will in fact envleope it...

bhai gurdaas ji (whether you wish to admit it or not is not my problem) who is one of the greatest gursikhs ever, said that katha is important because it keeps your mann in sukh... and it keeps it calm..

katha is basically praeching, and if you don't like it, no one's makin you listen..

but it seems like what you're saying is that you feel that everything that anyone says is preaching...

WOW!!! u got preached to in a Gurdwara!!! How terrible- heres some advice kid, if you dont want to get preached to, stay away from preachers. The Gurdwara is a kind of place where prechers congregate, so avoid it like ( enter something not desireable to an atheist apart from a house of God )

DAMN!!! Must have been scary for an atheist like yourself!!!

Stick to pubs, clubs and places like that- much safer- far less risk of preachers, but I do warn ya, those damn no good God-squadders get into all sorts of places these days!!!

All i would like to say to deadquote is you are going through a little phase rite now and later down ..maybe in a year maybe in two...maybe after the next couple of lives one day you will want people to ""preach """ to u ...better have an open mind now and listen to what people are telling you and use Guru Granth Sahib Ji to guide you....we all have to go back to where we come from...better do it now while u have this human body.. .rest is upto u...its good on ur part though that you are atleast making an attempt to be around religious people....don't give that up...

i have to make a serious attempt, because it all sounds like preaching to me. And i dont mean EVERYTHING, just when people tell me about their beliefs in religion. probably because i have firm ones of my own.

this random dude at the gurdwara said "i should seriously considor taking amrit" abd just popped out of nowhere. epitome of preaching.

call "being a rebel" a phase if you want, but its more of a way of life for me.

@H4RPAL

my family took me with them. i had no choice. and your bad at sarcasm.

@Gurpreet Singh

If everyone was like you, there would be no problems between religions

so now confiding a secret with someone, or expressing a sentiment or a yearning is preaching...

you say you're starting to hang around with more erligious people, yet you say you hate preaching, and that for you, preaching constitutes when people talk about their religious beliefs..

and yet, you come to a sihk site, with sikh youth, who for the most part, are actively involved and in love with their religion....

if i missed anything, fill the gap, cuz to me, it sounds like you may be in denial...and WANT to sruround yourself with the "preachers"...

Preaching is good. People who say preaching is wrong are jealous. They also preach. They preach preaching is wrong. They try to fool others. Why? They know their faults and don't want somone to tell them to correct them. E.g. Telling people to keep hair quit drugs, quit evil thoughts and porn and adultry if they want to be called Sikh. Some corrupted people get <Edited>. They don't want to hear. However, if they don't want to hear the message of Guru Ji relayed by a Gursikh, I don't think they are Sikh then anyway. Preaching is good. If there was no preaching, there would have been no Sikhism. Guru Granth Sahib Ji is the preacher. Guru Granth Sahib Ji preaches. Follow Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

Does that apply to school then too? Like whats the point in learning Trig when u can use a measuring tape and a patractor?

i see preaching as people telling me waht to think and do, and trying to convince me.
If Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Jesus Christ, and other Messengers of God did not preach, what would be of the world today?

Just because you don't believe in God, does not mean there is no God.  There is a God...you want proof?...look in the mirror...don't you see that there is an obvious design in your body?  The way your body works is amazing.  You have eyes to see, a brain to think, you need food and water to live...HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT ABOUT WHO THOUGHT OF THIS CONCEPT?  It didn't just come out of nowhere.  God designed the earth, the sun, animals, plants, and everything has a design behind it...Who ever thought that you would have 2 eyes, 1 nose, legs arms, a mouth to put food into...who thought of all this...EVERYTHING HAS A DESIGN, AND EVERY DESIGN HAS A DESIGNER BEHIND IT.

    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
