Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa!

Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!!

I agreed on the ideas like for getting amritvela early to bed, doing ardass to gurujee, shaheed Sikhs after doing Sohila, alaram watch with authomatic alaram beep up atleast thrice after 5 min. gap, calling each other, taking lite food in the nite.

In India one of my gursikh veerjee used to throw small stones on our windows bcoz at that time there was no mobile phones, no automatic alram watches were available to wake us. lol

About not getting up amrit vela due to any health problem it is okay to first get well and then again start the amritvela with guru jee kirpa.

Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa!

moorakh/me thinks...

This is definately an imp topic. Missing amrit vela for reasons is certainly equivalent to :umm: @

I think that the best time to read the panj banee's at amrit vela is straight after ishnaan, before doing naam jap/swaas gras as we are fresh and alert...

Keeping straight back/posture is a great tip aswell as showering with at least near enough cold water - this is actually a rehtnama too.

Also good idea to put on as many alarms as you need, 'AWAY' from your bed.

Most definately do your ardaas asking for kirpaa so that we may rise at amrit velaa, and do another ardaas at amrit velaa to thank Guru jee for waking us up.

Just when we think its easy, it suddenly becomes hard -- must happen bcoz Guru Sahib wants us to focus on our faults and improve them....and

another important way to be able to get the kirpaa is to do sangat of GurSikhs. So attend Gurudwara Sahib/ransbaees, kirtan progs as much as possible, and every weekend if possible!

Definately try to sleep early, if study allows you to....other exuses such as TV, Internet for fun are just not good enough.

No matter the situation of amrit velaa..> during the day/night, make sure you recite naam with every breath as soon as you remember. Wearing a malaa, is a very useful reminder! But just be sure to use it as a reminder.

Like veer MKhalsa ji mentioned, no matter how many amrit velas missed or messed, do NOT give up...---continue to have faith/bharosaa in Guru Sahib and al

l will come together when Vaheguru ji wishes.

But remember that missing amrit velaa is one of the most likely happenings, we must motivate our minds that we MUST wake up.

If it means doing the most stupidist thing with your alarm clock - like putting it at your bedroom door, then just do it! Vaheguru ji is seeing HOW hard we try - how much we love...

jin prem keeyoe, tin hee prab paa-yoe

He who loves, shall find him.

vaheguru vaheguru vaheguru vaheguru

ps. try and listen to kirtan as much as possible.

by the way - dont eat snacks or junk near to bedtime!

Totally agree with MKhalsa veer ji on the sick issue.

and I think we should sleep less... this must really be one of the keys.

I think that the best time to read the panj banee's at amrit vela is straight after ishnaan, before doing naam jap/swaas gras as we are fresh and alert...

I've always wondered if this could actually be done. Aren't we supposed to do naam abhiyaas as early at amritveyla as possible?

Fourth Mehl:

One who calls himself a Sikh of the Guru, the True Guru, shall rise in the early morning hours and meditate on the Lord's Name.

Upon arising early in the morning, he is to bathe, and cleanse himself in the pool of nectar.

Following the Instructions of the Guru, he is to chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. All sins, misdeeds and negativity shall be erased.

Then, at the rising of the sun, he is to sing Gurbani; whether sitting down or standing up, he is to meditate on the Lord's Name.

One who meditates on my Lord, Har, Har, with every breath and every morsel of food - that GurSikh becomes pleasing to the Guru's Mind.

That person, unto whom my Lord and Master is kind and compassionate - upon that GurSikh, the Guru's Teachings are bestowed.

Servant Nanak begs for the dust of the feet of that GurSikh, who himself chants the Naa

m, and inspires others to chant it. ||2||

    • Yeah, that's one possibility. Another I initially thought is that it's a Muslim trying to gather info. But then, you might ask, how does he know about Sikh textual sources. Well, you'd be surprised at their resourcefulness. A final possibility is he's a weak Sikh who was asked a question by a non-Sikh and now he's suddenly feverishly wondering where it's "written" that you can't marry a young child. To the latter, I would say, you're looking in the wrong spot. Gurbani isn't a 1428 page rulebook, like Leviticus or the Vedas: ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਪੁੰਨ ਪਾਪ ਬੀਚਾਰਦੇ ਤਤੈ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥ ਤਤੈ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਤਤੈ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥ The Simritis and Shastras discriminate between charity and sin, but know not the essence of the Real Thing. Without the Guru, they know not the essence of the Reality, know not the essence of the Reality. Anand Sahib.
    • You're confusing two different things: One is merely adding starch to a turban to get a certain feel to the fabric. The other is tying your turban once and taking it off like a hat. It is this that people have a problem with. What's wrong with it is that Rehit says to tie your turban afresh every time. If you ask, "Where is that written?", it's written in Bhai Nand Lal ji's Rehitnama. @ipledgeblue didn't just make it up. Umm, no, bro. We're not evangelical Christians like President George W Bush of the US claiming to "talk to God" who told him to invade Iraq. "Speaking to him directly" basically ends up being doing whatever you feel like with the excuse that Guru ji told you to do it. If you still want to take your turban off like a hat, feel free to do so, but don't claim that it's Rehit.
    • You don't need to wear either a pag or dumalla in the gym. You can simply wear a meter or 1.5m small turban (gol pagg or round turban). It doesn't come off.
    • The reason you don't see anything wrong with it is because like a fish in water, you grew up in Western culture and imbibed it fully. It's very difficult to for parents to inculcate traditional culture while in the West. The reason there is a problem is because a kiss between a man and wife is a sexual act (I didn't say it's coitus, but it's still sexual.) By contrast a kiss between a mother and a child, for example, is not sexual. And in our culture, sexual acts are not allowed in public. Goras do allow it. And that's also the reason they have gay pride parades now with people walking around naked with children in attendance and so forth.
    • The printer is C J Amritsar… They have given a mobile number for India …
