Should we have guru jis paintings in the Gurdwara

computer games to a certain extend will have pics too .. and im not talking abt pics showin abt the physical attributes of our guru;s im talking abt the history behind it.. kids sorta understand better with this pictures.. and i agree having pics in in library wont have much of effect.. rather than havin it in da darbar.. pics for learning is okay but worshipping them is totally anti-gurmat...

My opinion is, pictures of Guru’s are not good. I have seen people doing pooja infront of those pictures, which constitutes into “Buth Pooja”. But pictures of Shaheeds or historical events (ones that are not related to the Gurus) are all right. We should see more pictures of Shaheeds in our Gurdwaray. That will serve as an inspiration for Sikhs and in particularly the kids. I remember that the pictures of the Shaheeds use to inspire me, especially the ones of Sant Jarnail Singh Jee Bhindrawalay.

personally i cant stand these painitngs of Guru Ji they always are drawn with a cut or manicured beard, this is very insulting to me. esp no pics of any kind should be put where there is parkash of SGGSJ

just something to think about...Guru Nanak Dev Ji is usually drawn looking very quiet, meek, and a bit paunchy. think of all the actions he did in his life! he took 4 udassis...! he walked more in 1 udassi than many of us will in a life time, a person like that will certainly not have the least bit of paunch on them. just think about it....

btw, my view on pictures is that they are nice and all, but they can be misleading and many people will bow to them. in my gw, for example, in my gw, right across from where we keep our shoes, a picture of Guru Nanak Dev Ji hangs, and around is a wreath of FAKE flowers [ugly fake flowers... ] when i see it, it makes me very annoyed cuz i think its wrong, when i tried taking it down though, the auntie who put it up, started screaming at me, and nearly slapped me...so yeaa...i just gave up. esp b/c it ended up being a hopless fight...my opinion personally is that instead of goldplating pictures of gurus and bowing to them [which you arent suppossed to do anyways] instead gold plate mool mantra or the bani..."guru hai bani, bani hai guru..."that would make so much more sense and look so much prettier.

thats a very interesting observation bhainjee. yea all these pictures are actually artists impressions......i dont think our gurus look the way their depicted in pictures....am sure their MILES BETTER LOOKING than that

pictures/drawings are an important part of all cultures, especially for kids.

it would be great to have drawings that accurately depict the physical features of our gurus. its not like we had cameras in that day and age. so these drawings are going to be someone's portrayal of them. and if they are reverred by the artist, the artist will naturally try to "beautify" them.

i don't see anything wrong with drawings of the gurus in gurdwaras, so long as no one maath tekh's to them. i much prefer those to the torture scenes i've seen in some langar halls.

The "torture" scenes are more important than anything!!

We wouldnt be sitting in that nice cushy langar hall eating if that hadnt happened. The fact you get to be a sikh is because of that.. your whole life is because of that. Those pictures serve as a reminder of why you are there.

my whole life is not because of those torture scenes portrayed on the walls of a gurdwara langar hall. they may serve as a reminder of "how" i'm there (in a historical context) but not "why" i'm there.

i'm there because i feel a closeness to god, or because i want to thank god for the blessings he's given me, my family, and my loved ones. other times i'm there due to an akandpath, kirtan, or an anand karaj i've been invited to.

Why jewish community protected those BRUTAL Nazi concentration camps?? What for?? they even had dry blood of victims in those camps room..?? WHY ? cauz as the reminder to young generation that what their forefathers been thru etc..

I disagree with anyone who say "FOrget history, look for future" blah blah ..

I say learn lesson from history !
