this is, in a sense, impossible... schools are given 2 week breaks for christmas... in asense, this is one method of celebrating it....

same with a long weekend given for easter

but i've been lucky.....at my school we now recognize 6 religion's holidays, and those student's are exempt from that day's work, and they are "allowed" to take the day off. they will not be penalized, unless there is a test on that day.

I think it's hard for us to get out of that whole "Christmas / Easter" break problem.

We live in a Pro-Anglo-Christian-Americanized-Materialistic-Globalization-Capitalist society.. and we have no control over the statutory holidays right now..

However most schools allow you to take your religious holidays off - and you have every right to do so..

And during the winter break we have many Sikh divas and gurpurabs to celebrate - same with throughout the year.

That's why we celebrate Bandi Chhorr Divas instead of Diwali, we celebrate Hola Mohalla instead of Holi, we celebrate Chhottae Sahibzadas Shaheedee instaed of Christmas, we celebrate Guru Gobind Singh Jee's avtar purab to celebrate the new year, we celebrate Vaisakhi instead of Easter.. There are many other examples that might be more suitable

We have the shabad "baaraah mahaa" which tells unique shabads for each month.

Khalsas are in "anand" every single second by doing simran of Guru jee.

Khalsas are constantly celebrating. Every single second is a celebration of Guru jee for the gurmukhs.

TRUE !!!

Btw.. i don't think it's wrong to participate in other religion's important day like christmas or thanksgiving etc.. IT's all cool as long as we are within limits..

Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa!

Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!!

The reason why presents are exanged on christmas is to celebrate the birth of christ, as the wise man gave christ gifts that day to. Sikhs are not allowed to worship any other guru, sant, whatever. Nor are we supposed to participate in their religious holidays. We can say to other people merry christmas and stuff, but you cant get the christmas tree, give presents, etc. And everyone should observe guru tegh bahadur jes shaehhedi day ( well at least hindus), because their religion was saved by gurusahib. BUt its true, they dont want to admit that someone that was a guru of another religion, especially sikhi, saved their own religon.

Khalistani - "Sikhs are not allowed to worship any other guru, sant, whatever."

True, but on Christmas, no Sikhs actually go to church and sing to the lord.

Khalistani - "Nor are we supposed to participate in their religious holidays."

You can celebrate anything you want as long as it does not compromise Sikh principles. Imagine if you were celebrating a Hindu festival (not that I would ever want to), it's ok to jump around and have fun, but you can't go around bowing to some stupid statues.

Kind Regards,

MI
