Sorry for not replying to this thread earlier. Whether we are sending e-mails, letters, postcards or whatever to support this cause, it would be good for everyone to keep posting something on this thread. As Tarunjeet Singh stated, this should be our number one topic at the moment. The busier this thread gets the more people will action something. We are lucky that we have some Sikhs/Groups who have the knowhow to take the right actions to free the 3 Singhs. Let's all follow their instructions!!!

This Campaign should be what we now focus our energies on! Once again I am sorry I took so long to reply to this thread.

All on this forum must take time out and send emails/letters to their MPs and others. This kind of victimisation of Sikhs has been happening for many years now. But to our advantage, the world is becoming a smaller place. India isnt outside of the international community anymore where it can get away with persercution.

Writetothem.com is a very effective way to contact your MP. You can expect a reply from your MP when you use this website.

We are all struggling to be "real" Sikhs, I mean all of us. Don't even need to look at if from a Sikh point of view, look at it from a humanitarian point of view!

HELP SECURE THE RELEASE OF THREE INNOCENT SIKHS

Sikh Federation's five top tips on getting postcards

completed and sent:

Objective 1: To get coverage of as many politicians as

possible in the UK

Objective 2: To try and exert pressure on human rights

groups to highlight this case through its network of

members and activists

1) In getting Sikhs to provide their names and

addresses for postcards at Gurdwaras it is more

important to try and cover as many MPs as possible

rather than concentrate on getting a large number of

postcards to the same MPs. Where large numbers of

postcards are completed for the same MP it is

essential the postcards are sent individually and at

staggered intervals so the MP receives a constant

stream of postcards. The Sikh Federation (UK) wrote

to all UK MEPs on Thursday 4 January therefore 5

around postcards from each town to each MEP in the

region should be sufficient to make the necessary

impact.

2) The same names and addresses for postcards

collected for MPs could be used to send a sufficient

number of postcards to Amnesty International, Human

Rights Watch and the UN Rapporteur on Torture. For

instance 10-15 postcards should be sent from each town

to each organisation. It is essential these postcards

are sent individually and at staggered intervals so

combined with other towns the organisations mentioned

receive a constant stream of postcards.

3) Target non-Sikhs from other parts of the UK by

getting each Sikh student at University to get 10-15

non-Sikh friends to fill out details on the postcards

of their 'home' or 'parents' address. If this was

done by 10 students at 5 Universities it is estimated

100-200 additional MPs could be covered across the UK.

The postcode will help you determine the constituency

MP. Visit www.faxyourmp.com to find an MPs name using

the postcode.

4) Target non-Sikhs by trying to set up a stall in

prominent locations in particular cities (e.g. London,

Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow etc.) Stalls

could be set up for a few hours to get non-Sikhs to

sign. If stalls can be set up for completing

name/address details in high profile locations (e.g.

Trafalgar Square) that attract people from across the

country and/or other countries (e.g. tourists) this

could have the most impact in terms of coverage. The

Sikh Federation (UK) is in the process of obtaining

permission to set up a stall in Trafalgar Square on

Saturday 14 January 2007.

5) Target non-Sikhs, in particular activists, by

trying to set up a stall at regional or national

events. For example, the Sikh Federation (UK) is

hoping to set up a stall at the 'A World Civilisation

or a Clash of Civilisations on Saturday 20 January

2007 in the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in

London. Please look out for relevant regional or

national events in your town or city to organise

similar events.

The same five top tips are being adapted in Canada,

USA and in mainland Europe. Following meetings and

discussions by the Sikh Federation (UK) with Sikhs in

a number of countries in mainland Europe, postcards are

in the process of being produced in French, German and

Dutch. Sikhs in Belgium will be using tens of

convenience and souvenir shops owned by Sikhs in

different parts of the country to get 20-25 'shoppers'

to complete postcards. This will provide good

national coverage by non-Sikhs. Sikhs in Paris and

other major cities have been urged to try and set up

stalls in key locations e.g. Eiffel Tower to get

national and international coverage.

Narinderjit Singh

General Secretary

Sikh Federation (UK)
