The common value that people share is the fact, the younger brother 'stays' with family, while the bigger one can move out, This is common in most families, and this is so someone can take care of the parents at their old age.

Yea, its more of a punjabi thing than having to do with sikhi.

Debatable, But sikhism is about makin wise decisions, I believe it is wise to help your parents in their last stages of life after all they've given you. Who is going to take care of parents when they get old, weak, and need support?

It's more of a punjabi thing, that makes no sense, basis of everything is about moral values and customs, a lot may be wrong in punjabi culture such as bhangra, etc to some, but we must also realize what we can apply to ourselves that isn't bad as sikhs.

I guess it depends on the situation and or what works best. Bhai Gurdas Ji, in his vaars, also mentions serving and helping your parents. Sikhi is so unique in how it guides us through our lives here and now. pray.gif Waheguru...

To do your parents seva is just the same as doing Rab-te-Seva.

It is essential that they are looked after in their old aged and respected.

If they didn't do a good job in our upbringing, who knows where our paths would be - towards evil. It is with their guildence we have embraced sikhism, they took us to the gurdwara when we were little, taught us punjabi & part etc.

It is our duty to look after our parents as they looked after us, and for our kids to look after us when we are in need.
