You would ask one guard if the other one would call him a liar.

If you asked the one thats a liar, he would say "no". (The guard who tells the truth would say that the liar is the liar = yes. But the liar always lies so he would say no.)

If you asked the one who tells the truth, he would say "yes". (The liar would say that the guy who tells the truth is the liar = yes. So the guy who always tells the truth would say yes.)

That would tell you who the liar is, but since you're only allowed to ask one question, it wouldn't help you find out which path to take.

You are lost in a forest, and you come across two paths, guarded by two people. If you take the wrong path, you die, but if you take the right path, you escape from the forest into paradise. As for the guards, one of them tells nothing but lies, while the other always tells the truth. You can ask one guard one question in order to get out. What question can you ask that guarentees you will get out of the forest, regardless of which guard you ask?

OR you could ask, "Which path would you tell me if I asked you which is the path to paradise?"

The guard who tells the truth would tell you the correct path, and the guard who always lies would also tell you the correct path because he'd lie about what he would tell you, which would also be a lie. A double negative makes a positive!

So the two sons set off on the quest to make it to the city last. They are both on their horses, moving extremely slowly, and they both get off to go to sleep. When they wake up, they get on a horse and start racing toward the city as fast as they can. Why would they do this?
