ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕਾ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕੀ ਫਤਹਿ ॥

Guru Piario Sadh Sangat Ji,

Daas has just phoned a landline number to Hoshiarpur and it seems to be fine. Perhaps, this is either a localised problem or an issue with mobile telecommunications in Punjab.

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕਾ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕੀ ਫਤਹਿ ॥

Kanwaljit cremated under heavy security

Sushil Goyal

Tribune News Service

Sangrur, May 18

Kanwaljit Singh (28), a local resident, who died in a firing near Naam Charcha Ghar of the Dera Sacha Sauda at Sunam yesterday night, was today cremated amid great tension and under heavy security in the presence of Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Balwant Singh Nandgarh, chief of Damdami Taksal Harnam Singh Dhuman, a former Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Bhai Jasbir Singh Rode, SAD (A) vice-president Bhai Daljit Singh Bittu, Sikh saints and leaders at the local cremation ground.

Situation remained tense for about 15 minutes when a number of youths, carrying swords and lathis, stopped the vehicles, including the one carrying Kanwaljit Singh’s body, as they were insisting to take it to the cremation ground through the main bazars of the town, but the family and religious leaders had decided to carry the body through a shortest route (Baguana-Ubhawal-Sangrur road) to avoid any untoward incident.

On this, Jathedar Nandgarh announced, “Jo ohda sir liayu, sone chandi naal tol diange” (who will bring the head of Dera Sacha Sauda’s chief, he will be weighed against gold and silver). This paved the way for carrying Kanwaljit Singh’s body to the cremation ground through the shortest route (Baguana-Ubhawal-Sangrur).

In the wake of Kanwaljit Singh’s cremation, who got married about one and half years ago and had a six-month old daughter, all local shopkeepers had downed their shutters for the entire day. The BSF and the Punjab Police kept vigil on various spots in the town to prevent any untoward incident.

In Sunam, a mob reportedly ransacked two houses and two shops of dera followers. All markets in the town also remained closed for the day. The mob also took out a protest march through the town while a BSF company took out a flag march.

In Bhawanigarh, a protest march was also taken out by Sikh organisations against the dera head. In Dhuri, activists of Sikh organisations also burnt an effigy of the dera head.

=======

The prat had his chance to just apologise but now the more militant organisations have got involved we can safely conclude it wont be long now before dera pakandi baba blasted of the face of this earth.

can someone plz confirm the names of the shaheed singhs

someone mentioned a name like bhai satnam singh . . .can sumone confirm this. . . .and all the other names. . .thanks. . . also who actually skanked and who stayed on marhing to the deras. . . as there were also reports that when gun fire stated happening some gursikhs/jathedars apparently ran back. . .anyone confirm this. or is it just a false rumour

Why are you listeing to rumours? worst way to ruin your kamai bro, also who are you to know/judge whether some gursikhs ran back or forth to the fight? Concentrate on yourself and dont be concerned on what gursikhs in india are doing because even though you may think you are ready for torture, its all talk as of yet because you will not know until your there. I implore all these people who are just on the internet 24/7 wasting time by communicating there pointless views should be doing bani and ardas for those in this dispute in india. What is a forum going to achieve for them!?

Phone lines are working fine in the malwa region.

There was a fear that dera supporters might attack gurudware so most of the gurughars in malwa region are being guarded by Singhs. No one is allowed to carry weapons in public.

I request the sangat to help the family of Bhai Kanwaljit Singh. Do ardas for the chardikala of his family and for the chardikala of the true sikhs who are on the forefront fighting for the panth.

    • Part of the problem is the hostilities between India and Pakistan. If the border were open, Amritsar would easily become a huge trading city. Secondly, the National Highways Authority of India is constructing a new 6-lane expressway from Kashmir, through Amritsar/Jalandhar/Ludhiana to Dehli which will be part of the Ludhiana-Delhi-Kolkatta Industrial Corridor.  Maps of the New Silk Road show Kolkata as a key part of the "road". The Punjab to Kolkata expressway and rail connections will fulfill the ability to hook up to the New Silk Road.  In addition, while crossing to Pakistan via AH1 (Asian Highway 1) is difficult, India does connect to AH1 on the other side, towards the East. Finally, Punjab can trade with the world via Mundra port in Gujurat. Rail to Mundra, then sea onwards. Dubai is very close with a free port. If you send products to Iran, there are ground links onward to Europe.
    • Yeah, that's one possibility. Another I initially thought is that it's a Muslim trying to gather info. But then, you might ask, how does he know about Sikh textual sources. Well, you'd be surprised at their resourcefulness. A final possibility is he's a weak Sikh who was asked a question by a non-Sikh and now he's suddenly feverishly wondering where it's "written" that you can't marry a young child. To the latter, I would say, you're looking in the wrong spot. Gurbani isn't a 1428 page rulebook, like Leviticus or the Vedas: ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਪੁੰਨ ਪਾਪ ਬੀਚਾਰਦੇ ਤਤੈ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥ ਤਤੈ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਤਤੈ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥ The Simritis and Shastras discriminate between charity and sin, but know not the essence of the Real Thing. Without the Guru, they know not the essence of the Reality, know not the essence of the Reality. Anand Sahib.
    • You're confusing two different things: One is merely adding starch to a turban to get a certain feel to the fabric. The other is tying your turban once and taking it off like a hat. It is this that people have a problem with. What's wrong with it is that Rehit says to tie your turban afresh every time. If you ask, "Where is that written?", it's written in Bhai Nand Lal ji's Rehitnama. @ipledgeblue didn't just make it up. Umm, no, bro. We're not evangelical Christians like President George W Bush of the US claiming to "talk to God" who told him to invade Iraq. "Speaking to him directly" basically ends up being doing whatever you feel like with the excuse that Guru ji told you to do it. If you still want to take your turban off like a hat, feel free to do so, but don't claim that it's Rehit.
    • You don't need to wear either a pag or dumalla in the gym. You can simply wear a meter or 1.5m small turban (gol pagg or round turban). It doesn't come off.
    • The reason you don't see anything wrong with it is because like a fish in water, you grew up in Western culture and imbibed it fully. It's very difficult to for parents to inculcate traditional culture while in the West. The reason there is a problem is because a kiss between a man and wife is a sexual act (I didn't say it's coitus, but it's still sexual.) By contrast a kiss between a mother and a child, for example, is not sexual. And in our culture, sexual acts are not allowed in public. Goras do allow it. And that's also the reason they have gay pride parades now with people walking around naked with children in attendance and so forth.
