wow!!! Very good post Jagjeet Ji.

I 100% agree with you. We need to worry about ourselves and improve ourselves to the best of our ability with Guru Ji's kirpa and people will automatically get attracted not to us, but to our Sikhi. I remember a Sakhi in Giani Sant Singh Ji Maskeen Ji's tape that goes something like this:

There was a old fakeer used to came to a town for begging. Everyday he went to each house, ask for something and leave. One day, when he went to a house, the guy asked, "Fakeer Sahib, you always come and take and leave. Please tell us something about spirituality so that we could also be benefitted." The Fakeer replied, "If I had something, you would automatically get it. I don't need to tell you"

Then Giani Ji explained this further that If someone had sprayed cologne or perfume on his clothes, he does not need to tell others, people would automatically get its smell. And if the person does not have perfume on his body and no matter how loud he yells that he has perfume, nobody would believe him. People would make fun of him.

And Jagjit Ji, about Sakhi associated with that shabad, I think I know what sakhi u are talking about. But that Sakhi is not in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and there are many interpretations of that Sakhi. Some say, the meat that Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji cooked turned into 'prashad' and then served to the pandits, but Bhai Vir Singh Ji refused the coversion part. I don't know if you can find his analysis of this Sakhi online. And I don't klow if that shabad advocates the eating meat or not, but I know one thing for sure that is, this shabad is directed towards peole who think they are vegeta

rians and better than meat eaters. In this shabad Guru Ji tells that the people who think they do not eat meat are not any better than the ones who do. Guru Ji also gives the definition of meat, and many many many other things that are beyond the scope of your limited thiking. Only Guru Ji knows and make one understand what he is talking about. We can only make guesses. If I made any mistake guessing, may Guru Ji forgive me.

In this shabad guru sahib is telling those jains and brahmins who have made vegetarianism their religion that it is wrong to think you will get mukhti ONLY by being a vegetarian. Guru sahib never said there is no difference between a meat eater and vegetarian. I think you really need to contemplate this shabad carefully before deciding what it means.

i will tell the sakhi, or at least what I can remember of it. Guru Sahib went to a hindu holy festival. A young prince saw how great guru sahib was and wanted to give him a gift. (I cannot remember if guru sahib requested what to get or if the prince did it on his own) But the prince brought a dear for guru sahib. Guru Sahib immediately began to cook it.

Now for the brahmins this was sacrilidge. They beleived that no meat should be made there as it is a holy place and it will become polluted. They thought they were better than others because they kept vegetarianism strictly, but they did no devotional worship, that was all they cared about. So guru sahib told them, no, you idiots keep arguing over meat eating, but you havent done any good deeds or meditation?

maas maas kar moorakh jhagrhay gi-aan Dhi-aan nahee jaanai.

The fools argue about flesh and meat, but they know nothing about meditation and spiritual wisdom.

He told them that you dont know anything about the true sins, implying that they do a lot of bad deeds in the name of religion and caste that vegetarianism is of n

o consequence when compared to the fact that they dont do anything else good in their lives. They treat people so bad yet they are worried about animals?

maas chhod bais nak pakrheh raatee maanas khaanay.

Those who renounce meat, and hold their noses when sitting near it, devour men at night.

farh kar lokaaN no dikhlaavahi gi-aan Dhi-aan nahee soojhai.

They practice hypocrisy, and make a show before other people, but they do not understand anything about meditation or spiritual wisdom.

Anyway, in the end the deer came out to be kheer when guru sahib served it.

    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
