let's make a song about the number of rehits there are today... i'll steal the tune from Sesame Street:

"One of these rehits is not like the other, one of these rehits is not alike at all.

Can you tell me why there's so many rehits, before i start banging my head against a wall!"

i don't follow the Rehit, :@

i got Dastaar + do Paath and that...but not consider myself a Rehitvala, but when i take Amrit i will follow Akal Takht Sahib Rehit. the basis would be the Rehit published by SGPC, DGPC and other Sikh orgs in India, the titles 'Sikh Rehit Maryada'. However in the questions where Panth has not come to a total consensus i would also consider the Purataan Rehitnameh. i am very much aware that on many isssues they are not alike, but i have to look there too. Also i will see the Damdami Taksal 'Gurmat Rehit Maryada', and some points said by Akj, and other Sampardaya.

i mean that Rehit is so much that total Rehit can never be said in ONE document. and just like all other fields in Sikhi we got different schools and i cannot say that only one of them is perfect rest is fault. that is wrong. different Sampardaya were created on different period of times, they have there special part and all. :@

BUT NO Rehit is better then the Sri Guru Granth Sahib. every single Rehit should be considered with the Guru Sahib. that is the my opinion.

Yeah I agree. The akal thakt, despite their problems, is the supreme judiciary of Sikhism. Thus their rehat is the one to follow.

I think its ok to follow a rehit that is more strict than what they give too (ie: AKJ).

I reckon the one that follows the most authentic Rehitname and the one with unbroken lineage in terms of Samparda is Damdami Taksaal. Cos I dont believe in eating meat AT ALL and believe in the Raagmala and wearing Dastar. Even though people say Im a Nanaksariyee or aa, lol, I reckon Taksaali's the best, they just back everything up, but I took Amrit from Nishkam Sewa Jatha Gurughar and now Im gona bang my head against that wall, so Japmans Bro, sing that chorus again and again *ouch* :@ @

lol... :@

Yeah Taksal is safe. it is a great institution...got great respect for Taksali Singhs ^_^

:@ i can tell you that if right now i had the chance to get Amrit. this is the place i would go.

But still i hold SikhRehitMaryada at a high level. even though Taksali Singhs are not for that. BUT Akal Takht is the ONLY institution where we can be united and have a common path. some call it is the official version. AND that means when Sarbat Khalsa is present we can agree upon various issues, and that i like the most. the Guru Khalsa Panth. ^_^ and i think Taksalis are for that too....but there are offcourse differences between views of Taksal and the present SikhRehitMaryada, but one day all that would be sorted out. :) just respect guys...

aah i remember what i read a while ago written by Dr. Kharak Singh jee

http://www.sikhstudies.org/Activi

ties03.htm [at last..read the part about need for an apex body (Guru Panth)

Role of Existing Organisations

The proposed Apex Body of the Sikhs is not intended to replace any of the existing institutions. Rather, it will provide them with the support and the Panthic authority they need to discharge their functions. The SGPC and DSGMC will continue to manage the gurdwaras under their charge, as heretofore. In fact, the joint authority of the SGPC and DSGMC should be extended to other gurdwaras also throughout India, through suitable legislation. The Shiromani Akali Dal should continue to look after political interests of the Sikhs in India. The World Sikh Council should be reorganised and enabled to secure a respectable position for Sikhs among the international community. The Chief Khalsa Diwan, and some other organisations like the Sikh Education Society, should be entrusted with the responsibility of providing quality education to the Sikh youth. The Institute of Sikh Studies and Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle should be strengthened and encouraged to take up research work, translation of Gurbani, and production of suitable material for dissemination of information on Sikh religion, culture and history. The Damdami Taksal and Missionary Colleges as well as Nihangs will continue to play the traditional role assigned to them in history.

Before I conclude I must say that it was neither my intention, nor is it possible in this brief address to provide a blueprint for the proposed Apex Body of the Panth. That has been left to the learned scholars who will present their papers in this seminar. I have only stressed the urgent need for it. There is no other way we can survive as Panth and make our contribution towards advancement of mankind. The Guru beckons us. Let us respond to his call and carry out the task assigned to u

s under the doctrine of Guru Granth-Guru Panth.

that view is just great

    • Umm, that's totally irrational, bro. There are plenty of prakash-dara Singhs in Punjab (less than we'd like, but still plenty). No one cares that you are sabat soorat. It isn't 1986. You can walk around in chola, kurta-pajama, or jeans. Whatever. If you want the look @dallysingh101 is referring to, just go into a cheap clothing shop (not a Western-style mall) and buy some shirts for 250 rupees or a track suit for 2000 rupees. You'll get the cheap stuff made in some sweatshop in Bombay.
    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
