Bhaji the three according to SikhRehitMaryada are Japji, Jaap and Tva Parshad Swayye. The GurmatRehitMaryada [Damdami Taksal and other from the Sant Samaj / Sampardaya] tell about five Banis during Amritvela. the three above plus Kabio Bach Benti Chaupai and Anand Sahib (that should be all 40 paurian).

at the evening:

SRM tells about Rehiras as such:

Sodar Rehras compromising the following compositions:

(i) nine hymns of the Guru Granth Sahib, occurring in the holy book after the Japuji Sahib, the first of which begins with “Sodar” and the last of which ends with “saran pare ki rakh sarma”.

(ii) The Benti Chaupai of the tenth Guru (beginning “hamri karo hath dai rachha” and ending with “dusht dokh te leho bachai”

(iii) the Sawayya beginning with the words “pae geho jab te tumre”

(iv) the Dohira beginning with the words “sagal duar kau chhad kai”

(v) the first five and the last pauris (stanzas) of Anand Sahib

(vi) and Mundawani and the Slok Mahla 5 beginning “tere kita jato nahi” in the evening after sunset.

here GRM tells to do WHOLE Benti Chaupai, it is longer...and also 5 paurian Anand Sahib as above + the last, and some paurian after Slok Mahala 5. that is it.

Also at night time SRM tells about Kirtan Sohila, and the GRM has i think some Sloks extra.

It is not a big deal actually. once you got hold of a Gutka Sahib, just do everything... grin.gif

Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa!

Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!!

Hanji, Maryada of Akal Takat is the supreme and should be followed by every sikh. Why, because Akal Takhat Sahib is our supreme authority and we must accept orders from Takat for unity of the Panth.

It makes me mad when people say that marayada is corrupt :@ We can give shaheedyas in 1984 for Akal Takhat Sahib, but we refuse to follow rehat marayada from same Takat.

Great comment Bhainji. Akal Takht Rehat Maryada is the 'panth parvanit' Rehat Maryada. It's really up to the individual which Rehat they follow. The way I look at it once you take Amrit, you have been blessed, no matter which place or through which Jatha you have taken that Amrit from. You should stick to the Rehat as told to you by the Panj when you took Amrit. If the Panj said you shouldn't eat meat then you should follow that. You shouldn't concern yourself with what another Jatha says about it.

“I reckon the one that follows the most authentic Rehitname and the one with unbroken lineage in terms of Samparda is Damdami Taksaal. Cos I dont believe in eating meat AT ALL and believe in the Raagmala and wearing Dastar. Even though people say Im a Nanaksariyee or aa, lol, I reckon Taksaali's the best, they just back everything up, but I took Amrit from Nishkam Sewa Jatha Gurughar and now Im gona bang my head against that wall, so Japmans Bro, sing that chorus again and again *ouch*”

Benjee, I understand what you are saying. But, as for the lineage of the Damdami Taksal being “unbroken” is questionable. If you mean to say that it is unbroken from the times of Sant Sundar Singh Jee, then I am in agreement. But if you mean to say that it has an unbroken lineage from the times of when Guru Gobind Singh Jee and Baba Deep Singh Jee walked the earth then I have to disagree. To find out what I am trying to say, please visit the following link:

It will explain my points in detail. Although I don’t know why the Admins have closed that thread, I had so much more to add. Other then the Nihangs, no ones can claim to be puraatan, but even the Rehet they(budha dal) follow is no longer the same because of things such as meat, and bhang.

SGPC would be the last place i wuld got for taking amrit........ they call themselves the representative heads of all sikhs...... but no offense, most of them seem crooks to me..... they are no less than old days masands, controlling the gurudwaras....... distorting sikhi according to their likings(i.e handful of ppl managing it)....... there is no sarbat khalsa anymore at akal thakht....its more of politics.......and the law of nature goes...we get wat we sow......i'm against eating meat and sgpc preaches it openly...... a guy i knew pulled out meat while hanging out his kirpan.....it was offensive to me........ i'm not here to start tht discussion.....but we as sikhs should not follow a particular organisation...... pick the best frm everyone.......

    • Yeah, that's one possibility. Another I initially thought is that it's a Muslim trying to gather info. But then, you might ask, how does he know about Sikh textual sources. Well, you'd be surprised at their resourcefulness. A final possibility is he's a weak Sikh who was asked a question by a non-Sikh and now he's suddenly feverishly wondering where it's "written" that you can't marry a young child. To the latter, I would say, you're looking in the wrong spot. Gurbani isn't a 1428 page rulebook, like Leviticus or the Vedas: ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਪੁੰਨ ਪਾਪ ਬੀਚਾਰਦੇ ਤਤੈ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥ ਤਤੈ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਤਤੈ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥ The Simritis and Shastras discriminate between charity and sin, but know not the essence of the Real Thing. Without the Guru, they know not the essence of the Reality, know not the essence of the Reality. Anand Sahib.
    • You're confusing two different things: One is merely adding starch to a turban to get a certain feel to the fabric. The other is tying your turban once and taking it off like a hat. It is this that people have a problem with. What's wrong with it is that Rehit says to tie your turban afresh every time. If you ask, "Where is that written?", it's written in Bhai Nand Lal ji's Rehitnama. @ipledgeblue didn't just make it up. Umm, no, bro. We're not evangelical Christians like President George W Bush of the US claiming to "talk to God" who told him to invade Iraq. "Speaking to him directly" basically ends up being doing whatever you feel like with the excuse that Guru ji told you to do it. If you still want to take your turban off like a hat, feel free to do so, but don't claim that it's Rehit.
    • You don't need to wear either a pag or dumalla in the gym. You can simply wear a meter or 1.5m small turban (gol pagg or round turban). It doesn't come off.
    • The reason you don't see anything wrong with it is because like a fish in water, you grew up in Western culture and imbibed it fully. It's very difficult to for parents to inculcate traditional culture while in the West. The reason there is a problem is because a kiss between a man and wife is a sexual act (I didn't say it's coitus, but it's still sexual.) By contrast a kiss between a mother and a child, for example, is not sexual. And in our culture, sexual acts are not allowed in public. Goras do allow it. And that's also the reason they have gay pride parades now with people walking around naked with children in attendance and so forth.
