Many in India look at the Gujarat riots and 1984 Genocide on the same level. In fact some in the Media term the Gujarat riots as a genocide but call the 1984 genocide as riots.

Point that needs to be noted.... in Gujarat both Muslims and Hindus lost lives guring the Gujarat riots. However, in the 1984 genocide just Sikhs were killed. There were no casualties on the other side.
