There are many amazing young Gursikhs around who can speak both/read English/Gurmukhi fluently and are full of pyaar for Guru Ji/ Sikhi/ Sangat and inspire many with their talks/parchaar.

I would try to get such a Chardi Kala Gursikh like that to be full time Giani/Parcharak.

Vaheguru ji ka khalsa Vaheguru ji ki fateh

If you was given the oppurtunity to say how your local Gurdwara was run what would you change ?

What youth events would you have ?

What events for elders ?

What new innvotive ideas would you implement ?

What would you avoid?

etc...

:vaheguru:

Back to basics!!. What better role of the Gurdwara then to provide the environment to sit in the Sangat roop and to partake in Langer in the Pangat roop. The “innovations” are just our egos thinking that the core activities within a Gurdwara are not adequate enough.

At the end of the day whatever social esteems we have, our aim is to realize it’s the spiritual needs which are core. The trap that the Sikh community are falling into is that we think we need to sell the Gurdwara as a product catering for the personal needs of all. We think that we need a cake cutting soft party room or ladies aerobic centre or or elderly day centre or bouncy castle facilities. We want to arrange comedy nights and fun days to attract punters. If anything, this could be digressive for our spiritual progression.

Think back to the times of our puratan ancestors. Did they bog themselves down with this kind of concern?

first we have to organize a activity where we can pull all the youth together and spend time in gurdwara...expecially in the evening...like a gurdwara in punjab have gatka class....in malaysia...futsal is the best to have....belive me this youth will come....then from there onwards we can have some program which are handle by this same youth....example...after the futsal game..all get together and do rehrass sahib...at open area or where they play futsal...because if u wana ask them to go darbar sahib...they will give excuss that havent take their bath or so on...

from my point of view...first thing is...ge the youth together...then move on from there.....

some of us here are going to start it...gurdwara compound is laredy under renovation to level the ground and fix pavement..by next week it will be ready...and hope in february we can start the mission....may waheguru and sangat support us....

Intresting poitn veerji , and I can see where your coming from , only problem we have is that most of our Gurdwaray have been functioning as you have stated with Sangat and Pangat concpets but what is evident is a declien in Gurdwara attendees aswell as a shift in the average age of attenddees whcih is closer to 60. If we carry on blindly we will be no different than the Christians who are now faced with seeling off Churches. The youth of today do not understand gurbani and therefore there is no pull for them when they to the Gurdwara, the elders don't have the village atmosphere where they are still cared for and can socialise with other elders, in this country many elders are left home alone and as the trend amongst youth has becoem to move out from the parentla home once married more and more elders are left in vunerable situations. By adding new and innovative ideas to the Gurdwara system it doesn't in any way deman the existing format. The introduction of ideas such as Sikhitothemax in to gurdwara's has only helped to bridge the gap in understadign between the youth of today and Guru ji.

purataan way is the best way..no body could argue about that...but veer...u also have to understand that today youth dont have the same value for sikhi...there are many who lovw sikhi more than their life...but there is also many who just dont care...and gurdwara is the last place they want to go...of course we can say that we dont need them...but veer...they are not geting any impact on sikhi from their parents....should we just abunden them...their parents wana live with liquor and feshyen and maya....and they pull their children with them....should we let them go...

so from that..what i can is that..lets pull them togeter first in gurdawara...we let them join our 'bubble'...and hope it will give them some impact...

I agree with rupinder singh. Gurdwara's should go back to the basics. For instance whats up with cutting cake for Guru Nanak Dev Ji's Birthday?

What has happened to spirituality? I believe the problem is that Gurdwara is having a decline in spirituality events and a growth in maya - lets attract more people event. Gurudwara is and never should be about numbers. We should not sacrifice quality for quantity. When we do this we ruin the sangat and gurdwara's just become social grounds and we fall into the trap of maintaining sangat which is a social not spiritual sangat.

What we need is spirituality and truth in the gurdwara's. We should get rid of these marketing gimics of youth fun langars. They really annoy me. Why would I want to go gurdwara to eat chips and beans and pizza. Gurdwara needs to know its aim. Its aim is to introduce people to sikhi by educating people. Sikhi is very much linked to language, food, clothes and therefore we shouldn't change the culture of the gurdwara to increase our numbers.

We should do sakhi, vichaar and weekly discussions....many people have confidence issues, issues about wearing bana in public etc, peer pressure....but by bringing them into gurdwara environment we help them grow because in gurdwara there is no concept of who has the latest brand mobile, who wears the most expensive shoes, or tht it is weird to eat roti for packed lunch.....but if gurdwara's start changing then they are just the same as outside and the issues will never be solved. My opinion is to keep the gurdwara the same but to advertise events better.

I believe everything should be done properly and slowly our numbers will rise as people will feel a spiritual connection not a material connection. And remember there is always a fast numbers rise in material connection but in the long run the material connection will crumble and its only those who connected to gurdwara in spiritual connection keep it going. So make people connect spiritualy by providing a sachkand environment inside gurdwara ie give them and introduce them to something completely different to outside.
