Sikhs in Orakzai pay Rs 20 million jizia to Taliban

HANGU: The Sikh community living in Orakzai Agency on Wednesday conceded to Taliban demand to pay them jizia – tax levied on non-Muslims living under Islamic rule – and paid Rs 20 million to Taliban in return for ‘protection’.

Officials told Daily Times that the Taliban also released Sikh leader Sardar Saiwang Singh and vacated the community’s houses after the Sikhs accepted the Taliban demand.

The officials said the Taliban announced that the Sikhs were now free to live anywhere in the agency.

They also announced protection for the Sikh community, saying that no one would harm them after they paid jizia. Sikhs who had left the agency would now return to their houses and resume their business in the agency, the officials said.

This jiza is nice work if you can get it, reminds me of chinese triad or mafia gangs who intimidate businesses and locals of the area for protection money... to protect their patch against rival gangs. This is islamic shariah law people in its glory exposed for what it is.

Maybe there is a Dal Khalsa press release condeming the treatment of the Pakistan Sikhs.

Somehow i doubt it - they are only reserved for the Indian Gov't.

Its the freakin Taliban, they are extorting money from anywhere possible, look at the news clip, people that work on the main highway of Karachi have to give 50% of their money to the Taliban, the Taliban own multi-million dollars worth of construction equipment that is used on the highway. It is clear that Pakistan cannot even secure its largest city, how are they supposed to secure a tribal region in which all of the control is given to the Pasthons and Tribal Elders?

Sending more aid will not solve the situation due to the large level of corruption. Only way to solve this problem is for an international coalition to come in and work with Pakistan, otherwise it is clear that the Taliban will slowing gain more support and control. President Obama said that he will go after Taliban leaders in Pakistan, I think now is the time to go in, even without consent from the Pakistani Government.

I live in Canada but I think you guys are referring to Dal Khalsa UK, what do you want them to do? Condemn the Pakistan Government for not providing security to minorities in a region they don't even control?

Funny thing is that the RSS and Taliban have a lot in common, they both hate western culture, they both want to create one religion state/country, they both like picking on minorities, they both want to nuke other countries, they both have backwards ideology and are a bunch of crazy nuts.

the point being made is that sikhs have to open their eyes to the realities surrounding us

we cant be victims to aimless scaremongering and racist hate talk which is against the very message of Sikhi

and in refernence to the Dal Khalsa in the UK - these are the same people who never tire about talkig about the evil bahmans and the RSS hand in everything whilst keeping mum about the state of sikh brothers in states like Pakistan becuase it does not suit their political positiion
