Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa!

Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!!

Does everything happen in His will?

-If so then are the sins that I have done in His will too? (Please try to support your answer from the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee)

In the Jap Ji Sahib there are verses saying that we have no power to do anything

......

jor na mangan, jor na dayn

jor na jeevan, maran na jor

.......

If I have no power to do anything,

If I have no power to overcome maya,

Then how am I supposed to overcome it.

I can only overcome maya if the Guru wills.

How can i stop sinning if I had no power?

Why didnt the Guru protect me when I sinned?

Does he want me to attached to maya?

If not then why doesnt he lift me out of this maya?

I read the Sri Guru Granth Sahib and I try to follow it. I can only follow it if He wills.

How do I ask the Guru to have mercy upon His poor creature?

Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa!

Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!!

i have asked this question to muself many times, and in the passing of the three Grusikhs, i kinda satisfied myself with this answer:

This whole theory of God's will makes it seem as if we can do nothing, but then that would throw off the whole idea of karma. thus, both must be taken in moderation, because they really do both go hand in hand.. it is God's will that allows us to make the decisions that we do. if these decisions don't bear fruitful now, but they do bear fruitful in the next life, that is Gods' Will, and it is Karma. we are given the gift of decision, or lack of decision.

Sat Sri Akal:

Bandaginama, Chapter 2 (in this version):

Self contradictory Views in the Book

At times, we come across verses at apparent

variance with one another. For instance,

there is a verse

Arise, my playmate and friend, let us be up and doing, Let us be at one with God, our Spouse.

sun sakhie mil udam kareha manai lahe hari kanta ............ Guru Arjan Gaudi.

There are also the following verses

My God, he whom Thou holdest by the hand, Is set on the path leading to Thee.

Prabhu baah pakar jis maarag paavoh so tudh jant milaasi ............ Guru Arjan Kanrha.

Meditation, austerities, practice of creeds and conventions,

Purificatory practices and mechanics of self discipline,

Oh, Salvation lies not through their.

jaap taap naam such sanjam

nahi in bidhe chhutkaar

............Guru Arjan Kanrha

Viewed cursorily, the precepts are contradictory. In the first instance, emphasis is on self effort to be at one with God, and in the other verses, we are told that God cannot be realized through self effort, meditation, austerities, or the recitation of sacred verses ; only he finds Him, whom He blesses with His grace, and draws unto Himself by holding his hand and leading him unto Himself, thereby pulling him out of the “ Bottomless well.” But these verses are not contradictory ; they are varying hints for people in varying spiritual stages.

Self effort and God’s Will

We begin our meditation with seeming effort. But when the inner eye is opened through practice, we find that in all our repeated efforts, God’s

Will operates ; His Hand is present and so is His Grace. At the back of every impulse, every thought, every step, it is God’s Will. His Command. Then the seeker of God finds that all his past life was the foundation of, and a preparation for, his present trends. He finds a great change in his ideology. He views all happenings of the world, all facets of his life, from a new angle, This is inevitable. An ordinary mortal can be turned into an angel only through a change in ideology. There are merely differences of ideas and ideals between the saint and the fool.

By His Command, bodies are created; His Command cannot be described.

By His Command, souls come into being; by His Command, glory and greatness are obtained.

By His Command, some are high and some are low; by His Written Command, pain and pleasure are obtained.

Some, by His Command, are blessed and forgiven; others, by His Command, wander aimlessly forever.

Everyone is subject to His Command; no one is beyond His Command.

O Nanak, one who understands His Command, does not speak in ego. ||2||

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

this is a question that confuses a lot of ppl and raises questions....

-IF EVERYTHING IS ACCORDING TO HIS HUKAM, HIS WILL, THEN WHAT ABOUT ALL OF OUR MISTAKES IN LIFE....WHY ARE WE EVEN HERE ON EARTH COMMITTING DEEDS AND ACTIONS TO WHICH GOD ALREADY KNOWS WHAT WE ARE GOING TO DO ?

Bhai Sahib Bhai Parminder Singh Ji - Founder, Guru Nanak Academy, told me that the true answers to all of the questions are far deeper than simple words.

But he gave me an explanation that made me understand this. He said:

As Bani says, HUKAMAI ANDHAR SABH KO BAHAR HUKAM NA KOI ||

Everything is in HIS Hukam, nothing is out of his Hukam

-There are certain events in our LIFE which are SET IN STONE. AKAL PURKH has set them. Such as time of birth, who parents will be, time of death, time of marriage, person who will marry us, etc.

These events will all occur according to his will. We CANNOT change them.

Then i asked, "how does the concept of KARMA work then?"

Bhai Sahib explained that KARMA is based on our ACTIONS and REACTIONS to his will. Our actions and reactions to the events that are set in stone.

Example: a family member dies, that is his Hukam. Our reaction is, either we ar in Chardi Kala or we get depressed for 5 years. That is OUR doing. That is our action and reaction to his HUKAM. Hence, that makes up our Karma. Karma is OUR doing.

I hope this helps. Bhul Chuk Maaf Karo Ji.

SOOHEE, FOURTH MEHL:

All that happens, and all that will happen, is by His Will. If we could do something by ourselves, we would. By ourselves, we cannot do anything at all. As it pleases the Lord, He preserves us. || 1 || O my Dear Lord, everything is in Your power. I have no power to do anything at all. As it pleases You, You forgive us. || 1 || Pause || You Yourself bless us with soul, body and everything. You Yourself cause us to act. As You issue Your Commands, so do we act, according to our pre-ordained destiny.|| 2 || You created the entire Universe out of the five elements; if anyone can create a sixth, let him. You unite some with the True Guru, and cause them to understand, while others, the self-willed manmukhs, do their deeds and cry out in pain. || 3 || I cannot describe the glorious greatness of the Lord; I am foolish, thoughtless, idiotic and lowly. Please, forgive servant Nanak, O my Lord and Master; I am ignorant, but I have entered Your Sanctuary. || 4 || 4 || 15 || 24 ||

" It is rather intricate and complicated. There are only two systems of sadhana -- of spiritual practice. The basis of one system is resolve, and that of the other is surrender. Both lead to the same goal but they are diametrically the opposite of each other.

The methods of Mahavir and Patanjali and Gorakh are based on resolve, on effort. All life-energy is devoted to the effort. When there is absolutely no energy remaining outside that effort, when you have given yourself up to it wholly, that very day the event will occur; when you have left nothing for yourself, your resolve will be complete and perfect.

Nanak, Meera and Chaitanya have followed the second path, the way of surrender. It is entirely different; the seeker believes that nothing happens through one's own effort -- only through His grace do we achieve. Now this does not mean you make no effort, but don't put too much faith in your prowess. Try you must, but remember that the outcome will happen only through His grace.

This is very, very important. If you rely only on your own labors, you will strengthen your ego. Therefore it is easy for a yogi to be proud, because he begins to believe that things are happening because of him.

Once this ego develops it is very difficult to be rid of it. It is easier to be rid of the arrogance of wealth, it is not difficult to renounce the pride of position, but it is very difficult to be rid of the ego of one's own endeavors.

There is every possibility of the seeker feeling that whatever is happening is because of him; the I becomes primary and God secondary. Because of this danger, M

ahavir, Patanjali, Gorakh and others who follow this path lay great stress on the annihilation of the ego. Make the effort, put your all into it, but renounce your ego is what they stress so emphatically. If the ego functions along with the effort, it will get stronger and stronger. Then you feel in whatever you do, I am doing it: I have done japa, I have done penance, I have attained occult powers. And if this arrogance is not eradicated in good time, you will have opened many doors but not the last. All your efforts will have been in vain. Therefore, Nanak says: Try with all your might, but remember, His grace alone can bring about the happening. With this precaution, the risk in the method of resolve is removed. But there is a different risk in the path of surrender, which arises at the very beginning.

The danger is in feeling that there is no need to do anything. If the happening occurs only through His grace, what can we do? It becomes an excuse for not doing anything. So you remain involved in all the useless daily activities of life. You may assume it is not yet His will that you should set out on this path -- and so you wait. Meanwhile you indulge in all that is most contemptible in life; you wander in the maze of the material world. Thus the danger in the path of surrender lies at the very onset -- you might become lost in laziness and inertia.

So try you must in the fullest measure, while remembering that the fruit of the endeavor is attained only through His grace. Therefore Nanak repeats over and over: His grace showers only on those within the gaze of His compassionate vision. On whom does this compassion descend but those who prepare themselves for it through their efforts?

Understand that in everyday life the meaning of a compassionate look is quite different. Does He too show partiality? Is He kind to His own but lets the rest be? Does He select a few to shower with His grace while He leaves others to suffer? We cannot associate God with such injustices. Things would be

come meaningless if a sinner might receive His grace while a saint is deprived of it. There would be no sense in doing anything. No, this is not the meaning of the compassionate look. It is not that He chooses someone that suits His whim or fancy, or that He favors those who flatter and sing His praises. His grace showers on all, but there are some who have turned their pots upside down, so that they never get filled. If your pot is upright, it is bound to be filled. And don't imagine that your upright pot caused the grace to shower! Grace showers all the time. Nanak says the filling takes place by His compassion, but some effort you have to make -- by placing your vessel in the proper position to receive. And you will have to see that there are no cracks or holes in it, that it is not lying upside down or slanting so that the grace cannot reach the mouth of your vessel and enter it.

His grace pours on everyone incessantly. It is you who are not standing upright to receive it or in your twisting and turning, it slides off you.

There is an apparent contradiction: if you are deprived of grace you have only yourself to blame, but if you attain grace it is only because of Him. You attain through Him, lose through your own self.

When following the path of surrender it is imperative to remember that if I am losing, it is I who am wrong; if I am gaining, it is entirely by His grace. This way the ego cannot be fattened, because there is no space within for it to expand -- or even to exist. He who has no ego finds that God is within him. "
