Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji ki Fatehh!

Ive heard in katha previously, and recently told that we shudnt be using garlic in langar. Can any one shed any more light on this...is there any refernce in gurbani which refers to this, or maybe even a sakhi?

Thanks for you help in advance.

Saad Sangat Ji,

Garlic is Prohibited in Sikhism bcz as per History Records Garlic originated from Kaamdhenu Cow's Blood(cow goddess) when one of the King tried to steal Kamdhenu from Saints(Kaamdhenu is only accessible to Saints, Mahapursh), When Kamdhenu tried to Protect herself from that King, SHe fled upwards to Inderlok. King shot first arrow and hit the cow's Ear from where Tobacco originated and 2nd arrow hit the foot of Kamdhenu from where Garlic originated. Therefore Guru Gobind SIngh ji told to avoid Garlic and Tobbaco.

Dear Mohinder Pal,

Whereas that story may explain the mythical aspect of refraining to consume garlic, I fail to see how/why Guru ji would base reasoning based on that claim. From what I have heard and read is that garlic and onions are considered to be "tamasic" (or "tammo gun" in Panajbi) energy items, which, according to Brahmins, neither benefit you physically or spiritually.
