However there was sri chand (uddasi) worship place inside the *outer* complex of sri darbar sahib with one corner (main entrance) opening from darbar sahib's parkarma.. That entry was sealed before we were born and jal/shabeel (water drinking) system was placed on that spot. That worship place is is still there but situated outside of darbar sahib main complex but accessible from outside, just like when you visit books shop include Punjab and sindh bank (though not situated in prime spot, often new visitor won't see that at all). You will find that place if you walk down from jorha ghar towards saraan (hostel).

I think I saw it last year, and it was open. This Udasi place was a small room in the way from the 'parking lot' to the main entrance of Harmandar Sahib. Is it that one?

It was Amritsar DC's order to abandon the project of building the church in the place of ghanta ghar. It was also his idea to build or promote Christianity in punjab.. However, he suddenly abandon church structure (which was almost finished) and ordered to be demolished. DC later on told that someone in turban visited him in his dream and advised/told him that what they are doing is not right. When he explained more about the person who visited him in his dream, all characters pointed to Guru Gobind Singh ji and he later mentioned that it looks one of the sikh gurus.

Here's the close-up picture:

the above is correct. Sikh noblemen had approached DC not to erect Church so close to Harmandir sahib. DC started having frightening dreams

iN ONE DREAM HE SAW SHAHEED SINGHS SURROUN DING HIM WITH spears pointed at him. in one of his dreams he was advised to dismantle the church.

He did that immediately.

This is written in Giani Tarlok singh's book on Harmandir sahib.

Like many other historic places in darbar sahibs parikarma like baba buda jees asthan, baba deep singh jee asthan, guru ram dass jis asthan, 68 teerats etc ...

This asthan was in the corner baba sri Chand jee use to come every day sit there facing harimander sahib and meditate ...

there was entrance to darbar sahib from that point as well later a room was made and was locked. Now they server water to sangat in this corner.

This pushing back of baba sri chand jis asthan was started in 1940s and ended in 1970s so that people may not question the sudden disappearance of the place.

Parkarma been there since guru sahib jee made dabar sahib. The original parkarma was very small and there were houses (2 to 3 stories) around parkarma sahib (those houses are long gone and now u see that place as inner walking corridor with open rooms). Those houses belong to various misls, jathedars and sardars of amritsar, gurdaspur during 17/18th century. I have one picture which shows a view of such houses. Also, few steps away from sri akal takht sahib there were many housing complex which are no more (at the back side, now you will see akhand paath rooms). One part of parkarma housing still remains that is the line of ghanta ghar entrance where current singh sahib jathedar of akal takht sahib, head granthi and other granthis of darbar sahib resides.

Is this documented anywhere, are there any books etc I could read for more details?

I am sure that it probably documented in one of the history books. But old residents of amritsar who kept in touch with sikhi and love history knows about such changes :)

    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
    • Giani Kulwant Singh Jawaddi Kalan uses simple Punjabi.
    • Leaving aside Guru ji, the general question of taking afeem (opium) in limited quantities for war/medical wounds is simply unproblematic. When you go to the hospital, they give you morphine. What do you think morphine is? It's an opiate. Even codeine (cough syrup) is an opiate! Ever had a cough? Granted, it is against Gurmat to take opium or other drugs for the fun of it.
