Sikh Memorial - Badal - "no Pictures Just Gurdwara"

"Sharing the concern of Congress leaders at a special meeting at the Punjab Pradesh Congress office in Chandigarh, he said he was seized of the move to set up the memorial inside the Durbar Sahib Complex and had raised the issue with Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.

Chidambaram said the Chief Minister had told him that he or his government had nothing to do with it as it was being done by the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhik Committee.

He said Badal had also told him that it was not really a memorial but a Gurdwara which was being built and there would not be any photograph of anybody inside it."

If the above is true then the memorial will not do justice to the shaheeds of 1984. The seva of the Sikh memorial should have been done in a democratic way with all jathebandis/sampardas/taksals taking part. Instead it seems as if Badal or the SGPC have picked who they want do to the seva instead of the Sikh Panth.

A Gurdwara will not do justice to the Shaheeds, why do we need another Gurdwara inside the darbar sahib complex?

The memorial should be similar to the museums dedicated to the victims of the holocaust in ww2. There should definitely be pictures and names of all the people who lost their lives during the massacre by the Indian Government.

Gov't want to remove all traces of their atrocities against Sikhs..if jalianwala bagh can be dedicated to atrocities committed by british then why cannot sikhs have memorial highlighting atrocites commited by current gov't.

I like to share very interesting approach from one of my mona freind- He said he is not good sikh but he shares - our leaders should have kept small section in darbar sahib "untouched" , "damaged" by Indian Gov't so atrocities speak for itself..

Anyway going back to memorial, its great thought but without pictures illustrating atrocities, pictures of shaheeds i m afraid, there is no point ...just look how jews have made memorial highlting atrocities committed by nazis against them...no paragraph description is needed, each picture speaks for itself..!!

But there is an hope abroad, why not we...instead of incorporating 1984 events in vaishakhi ( which confuses the media all together), why not create seperate nagar kirtan( just so its dedicated, more resources can be used) around june time just like it..call it black day carrying placards/powerful pictures of darbar sahib being destroyed, infront of indian embassies and invite media there..!!

- invite real victims here whose family was destroyed so media can take their interview..!!

- invite human right activist

- shows pictures of maharaj saroop being burnt.

- shows picture of whole sikh history being burnt so media knows its nothing to do with militants there as they claim but they wanted to wipe the whole sikh race and its history.

If india want to suppress the truth in India, there is nothing we can do but what matters is how indian is seen in world eyes..that we can all change..!!

Just recently here in Canada, there were some cuts in scientific research development by gov't..all scientist got together dressed in black- carry coffins and attracted huge media so much so much there were regular twitter updates on this event..!!

Where is sikh activism network? love to get feedback from these guys?

If the new so called memorial is not going to be a real memorial, why don't Sikhs create an alternative memorial in Punjab? This privately funded memorial from Sikhs all over the world can be on the lines of holocaust memorials in the western world. Our story needs to be told while the generation who witnessed it first hand is still alive. Badal Sarkar is going to always care too much about their bjp allies, not wanting to offend them by creating a real memorial dedicated to the 84 Ghallugara.

Oh another thing try to play your cards wisely- invite swami ramdev yogi and his followers (he recently showed support) or influential media icon(bribe and lobby these guys) to the rally abroad....media will follow!!!!!!!!!!

28 years since operation bluestar and all the Sikh Panth can build is Gurdwara within Darbar Sahib?

If we question the memorial some people say it is anti-panthic however it is not the memorial that is being objected to rather the way the seva was given in un-democratic way and the design of the memorial.

The Indian Government cannot tell the Akal Takht/Sikh Panth how we should build the memorial.

The seva of building the memorial should have been a joint effort instead those close to SGPC/Badal get the seva.

Various organisations such as AKJ, Simranjit Singh Mann (Akali Dal Amritsar), bhai Ram Singh (Taksal) have raised concerns regarding the memorial.

Chidambaram also took part in the genocide of the Sikhs, he was Home Minsiter in the 80's when ordered the extra juidicial of Sikhs. Today Badal is presenting him with a ceremonial sword.

Also Badal honoured dushts such as Advani, made Sumedh Saini DGP, gave ticket to Azhar Alam...............................................................................................................

Yet many Sikhs are supporting Badal such as Sant Samaj and Jathedars of Takhts. Badal even got "pride of the panth award" from Akal Takht.

What hope is their for the Sikh Panth? The disease of Akali Badal needs to be eradicated from the SGPC. It is the SGPC and Akal Takht that have the power but they are being controlled by their boss, Parkash Singh Badal.

Sri Akal Takht and SGPC are religious institutions but have unfortunately been infiltrated with mayadhari-minded people. We need to rid the disease of politics from these institutions.

We need to free these institutions immediately form the grip of corrupt politicians. Until then we will continue to suffer.
