Haryana announces separate Sikh panel for its Gurdwaras

IANS | Chandigarh July 6, 2014 Last Updated at 16:18 IST

Bowing to the demand of Sikh leadership from the state, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda Sunday announced that a separate Sikh body would be set up to run the affairs of gurdwaras (Sikh shrines) in Haryana.

The announcement, which was being speculated on for the past few days, was formally made by Hooda at a Sikh conference in Haryana's Kaithal town, 140 km from here, Sunday. It was greeted by a thunderous applause by the gathering.

The move was strongly opposed by the Amritsar-based Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), the mini-parliament of Sikh religious affairs, which currently controls gurdwaras across Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.

Punjab's ruling Shiromani Akali Dal, which dominates the SGPC, also opposed the Haryana move and had even sought the Centre's intervention in the matter.

The Haryana government is likely to bring a legislation in the forthcoming assembly session next week to enable the creation of a new Sikh body to manage gurdwaras and Sikh affairs in Haryana.

Once the new law is passed, nearly 72 gurdwaras in Haryana will go out of the control of the SGPC.

What right does huda have to announce this committee?

Is he even a Sikh?

A little surprised they are trying to do it under a BJP govt, as the Akalis are part of this govt as well.

Still it should open badals eyes a little. Hopefully.

my guts tell me this....

In the recent General Elections..Haryana mainly voted for the BJP....

Haryana also has the biggest Sikh population outside Punjab...and most Sikhs didnt swing toward Modi in the elections...

So maybe he HOPES of consolidating the Haryana Sikh votes by setting up HSGPC , in the coming Haryana state polls. To capitalize on the grouses of Haryana Sikhs have towards SGPC in short. To win their hearts in short and counter the Badal Akalis influence in Haryana.

Revenue from Haryana Gurughars is managed and goes to SGPC......

SGPC will no more be getting the revenue from Haryana Gurughars....hence, the objection.

Regardless, anything that makes Badal scream in horror :omg: .........I like it! :excited: :excited: :excited:

Look at the video of hooda when he announced his decision. Majority of his audience were not even Sikhs.

Haryana (former Punjab) is always a big problem for us.

Agreed that sgpc is big problem but having more divisions is not going to reduce our problems but it will create more.

This means less power to SGPC as HGPC will be running its own Gurdwara's. Maybe this is a good thing since SGPC is rotten to the bone. HGPC needs to make sure it does a good job. All major committes need to work together. Its obvious at the moment they do not and that they are at each others necks which is terribly bad for the worsening situation in Punjab

The congress is behind this breakup and they are doing this by taking advantage of our grievances with Badal. The congress is the biggest enemy of the Sikhs. Even before partition when Sikhs were carrying out the morchas for the liberation of Gurdwaras, the congress did not like Sikhs liberating their Gurdwaras and asked Sikhs to direct their manpower under the leadership of the congress and said they will give Gurdwaras to Sikhs after independence. But Sikhs like Kartar Singh Jhabbar did not trust the Hindu leadership of the congress party and refused to follow this and freed the Gurdwaras and created the SGPC. After independence, the congress has repeatedly tried to take over SGPC by putting up it's own candidates. The recent congress candidates were under the command of the notorious Sarna who is a known congress asset (and is also now supporting this breakup). After repeatedly losing SGPC elections, the congress has finally decided to break SGPC. And congress leaders all over North India are not making a secret of their desire.

What will Sikhs achieve by creating HSGPC? I predict it will be no different and will be just as corrupt as current SGPC leadership as the DSGMC in Delhi is. On the other hand who is achieving their goal by breaking SGPC? it is the congress party. For the Sikhs. We do not even realize how we are being played here by our biggest enemy. Just to hurt Badal we are ready to even shoot ourselves in the foot by supporting the breakup of SGPC! SGPC is not Badal, and neither will it always be under the control of the Badals, but once an organisation or nation breaks apart, it almost never comes back together. This is the biggest tactical mistake we will make since we boycotted the elections in 1992. Sometimes when we think we are doing something very smart but we only end up doing our own Nuksaan.

good post bhaji - but im sure sgpc is under the noose of badal

which is why I wrote "SGPC is not Badal, and neither will it always be under the control of the Badals"

We are punishing SGPC because it is temporarily under Badal's control. Before Badal there was SGPC and after Badal it will also be there. So we need to stop thinking Badal and SGPC is one and the same. Tomorrow will we support breakup or partition of Punjab or punish Punjab because it is currently(and temporarily) under the political control of Badal? We are self inflicting injuries on our own selves just to hurt Badal.

The decision to create a Haryana Prabandak Committee had to be enacted by the state assembly, so a politcians would have to be involved.

If they can have a committee for Delhi then I fail to see why those in Haryana should be denied similar rights.

Maybe if the Akalis of yesteryear had no been so hungry for power they would have got these northern area of what is now Haryana included in Punjab. So desperate were these akalis for power that they <banned word filter activated> on the Sikhs in what is now north haryana.

You mean, Haryana offered to give it's northern areas to Punjab, and Akalis refused?

As for why Haryana should not have a separate committee. It's nothing to do with Delhi's committee. That territory was a part of SGPC since before 1947 and much before an artificial state like Haryana was created in the 60s. The Sikh brothers who are being used by the congress in creating it are disgruntled politicians who just want a piece of the pie. Congress it is just using this as an opportunity to weaken the Sikhs by partitioning the SGPC. First they take Punjabi speaking lands away from Punjab, river water is given free to other states, they carried out the Sikh genocide of the 80s and now SGPC is being partitioned.

The Haryana committee is a good thing. The SGPC has been so corrupted that it is best if Sikhs break off all relations with these bunch of chor and lutere. There is nothing sactosanct about the SGPC anymore, It was the premier Sikh body when it cared about Sikh issues but now when they are happy to just be Badal's chumchas then they lose their right for any respect. Just as the Sikhs need to break the grip of Badal Akali Dal from the politics of Punjab, so also they need to break the control of the SGPC over Sikh religious affairs. Haryana committee, Rajasthan committee etc need to come into existence so that the SGPC just become what it has always wanted to be - a glorified Gurdwara committee whose members are only interested in enriching themselves.

The creation of state level committees won't create disunity amongst Sikhs. It will ensure that at least the charawa and amdan from the land of the Gurdwaras in each state will at least have a chance of being used for the well being of the Sikhs of that state. The money will not as is the case now be taken by the SGPC and bottles of sharab brought with the money to try and elect another Badal crony into power.

If all this works out successfully, someday we may have a North American GPC, European GPC, etc. to look into the local affairs of Sikhs and report directly to Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

    • 1. Can you share the source of this reading? So we can all get some more context and verify the validity of this reading material please?   2. Raaj isn't really preached in the teaching of the Gurus. If so, I'm sure the 10 Guru's would've clearly made this apparent in their teachings and would have accomplished this objective themselves.    Sri Guru Granth Sahib - Ang: 534 (Guru Arjan Dev Ji): Raaj Na Chahou Mukat Na Chahou Man Preet Charan Kamalare. (I do not seek power and I do not seek liberation. My mind is in love with your lotus feet)   Sri Dasam Granth Sahib - Ang: 57 (Bachitar Naatak):   Ham Ih Kaaj Jagat Mo Aae. Dharam Heth Gurdev Patthai. (I have set foot on this Earth for this one reason; to propogate righteousness)   Jahaan Tahaan Tum Dharam Bithaaro. DushT Dokheean Pakarr Pachharro. (The Lord has asked me to spread Dharam and vanquish tyrants and evil-minded individuals)   I could reference countless other tuk's from Gurbaani but i'm sure these two suffice.   Akali Baba Phoola Singh Ji was walking in the steps of the teachings of the Gurus; on a mission to eliminate the enemy; in this case being the British who tried ever so hard to eliminate our teachings by performing disgusting acts such as but not limited to: Creating the SGPC Spreading propaganda of the Khalsa Issuing 'shoot on-sight' orders to kill Singhs Spreading propaganda on our scriptures Sending in paid Sikhs to spread nonsence and create divisions Polluting the Khandeh Di Pahul maryada by introducing other cults to participate Removing the Nihang Singhs from the Akaal Bunga Sahib aka Akaal Takhat Sahib and therefore the whole Jathedaari system that has been in place since the time of the Gurus.

    • I know this topic has been addressed before (see here) but I was wondering if anyone has anymore knowledge to share about the 4 yugs. I was wondering how this would fit with modern day science. If anyone also has any videos or books on this subject, please share 🙃 Bhul Chuk Maaf 🙏
    • Yeah Krishna was really dark, Shyam.
    • But then we also believe in the yug system! I'm sure bani also says God has made the world again and again, and then destroyed it, and then made it again?  So who knows which yug or time period these devi devte belonged to.  I'm sure one of Vishnus avtars came after a huge deluge, where only Manu and a few Kings were saved.  Makes the worship of these devi devte sound even more pointless, doesn't it.
