A homeless man is accused sexually assaulting and murdering a woman beneath a motorway bridge before dumping her body in undergrowth, a court heard.

Latvian Vadims Ruskuls, 25, was thought to be sleeping rough with his mother beneath the bridge crossing the M4 when he allegedly murdered Pardeep Kaur.

He allegedly pounced on the 30-year old hotel housekeeper as she walked to work.

Mrs Kaur scratched her attacker as she desperately fought for her life but her screams would have been drowned out by the noise of motorway traffic, jurors were told.

Afterwards, Ruskuls allegedly dragged her partially naked body by the ankles and hid it under an old sleeping bag and twigs.

Opening his Old Bailey trial, Crispin Aylett QC told jurors: 'This is a truly terrible case. The evidence in this case is distressing and you will have to brace yourself for what is to come.'

Mrs Kaur, a mother of one, was reported missing by her husband when she failed to return home from the Sheraton Skyline Hotel in Harlington, Middlesex.

Her badly decomposed body was found nearly a week later hidden in undergrowth near Harlington Bridge in Hayes, west London.

The court heard that the waste ground by the walkway on to the bridge over the M4 was a 'bleak spot used by rough sleepers, drunks and drug addicts' and was just yards from the busy motorway leading to Heathrow airport.

Mr Aylett told jurors that Mrs Kaur was last picked up on CCTV cameras at 6.33am on Monday, October 17, last year as she walked towards the bridge.

In a search of the area, a visiting officer from Norway, detective chief inspector Kenneth Berg, spotted a human foot sticking out from beneath a sleeping bag covered with branches which turned out to be Mrs Kaur.

A post-mortem examination failed to establish how she died but Mr Aylett said it was obvious from the way she had been found that it was murder.

Investigators who trawled through the CCTV images also noticed a man under the bridge at the same time as Mrs Kaur.

Less than half an hour later, someone was picked up on CCTV dragging her body away towards the patch of ground where it was later discovered.

Mr Aylett said: 'The prosecution allege that the man under the bridge is Vadims Ruskuls and the figure dragging her body towards the woodlands must also be Vadims Ruskuls.

'What happened in the 25 minutes between those two pieces of film? The prosecution allege that the defendant must have pounced on Pardeep Kaur at some point on the ramp, that he then sexually assaulted her and he murdered her.'

This CCTV image was the last time Mrs Kaur was seen alive as she walked towards the bridge in Harlington, Middlesex

The victim must have fought her attacker as the defendant was seen with scratches on his face afterwards, he said.

But he added: 'If she had cried out, her screams would have been drowned out by the sound of the early morning traffic.'

Ruskuls was allegedly caught after an officer recognised his image on CCTV to a man he had spoken to the day after the killing.

In the early hours, the constable had been called to a house in Hayes to a report of a 'stoned' man trying to open the front door looking like he had been 'dragged through a hedge'.

The officer found the suspect walking barefoot with scratches to his left cheek and neck, the court heard.

Following his arrest for the murder of Mrs Kaur, Ruskuls' DNA was compared to samples taken from her body.

His DNA was matched to samples from her ankle, sock, and the left cup of her bra with a probability of 'one in a billion', jurors were told.

DNA from the victim's fingernails were also found to be a match, the court heard.

Jurors were told that Mrs Kaur had come to live in Britain in 2011 with her husband Rachpal Singh who had a job at Fresh Foods in Hayes.

They both worked six-days a week to send money to their five-year-old daughter who lived with her grandparents in India.

When Mrs Kaur first disappeared, police suspected the husband because he initially lied to police saying he had seen her that morning when he had yet to return from a night shift.

The court heard he had feared they would discover he was working without a permit.

It was only after he came clean, that the investigation 'quickly moved on', Mr Aylett said.

The defendant, who refused to make any comment in police interviews, denies murder.

That's the second Latvian in the past few years who's gone on trial for sexual assault and murder in the UK.

It's terrible for the little girl who'll grow up knowing her mum's not alive.

I think some of these criminally minded Latvian and other eastern european men think its acceptable to target under age girls or brown/asian girls for rape and murder because in their homelands they got away with it in the past before they moved over. Most probably they did similar crimes to brown skinned gypsy minority women without any hassle from authorities as a blind eye was turned if it was against non-whites. They usually have racist mentality as they have grown up in all white population countries who look down upon other races.

British desi and sikh females need to be made aware of these horrific incidents so they can learn to keep their safety in mind at all times when out and about. Too many have the memory of a gold fish or are so naive of the evil monsters that lurk in  society and communities waiting to groom, rape or murder them.

We think something like this'll never happen to us until it does. The woman was grafting, obviously, but walking to work through the kind of terrain she encountered each day was a huge risk.

To be honest i don't think it's the university educated British Sikhs that need to worry about stuff like this. It's the working class or new arrivals that need to be made aware of such things. Of course, the latter group are more likely to be gurdwara attendees during the weekend, and all it would take is the stage secretary to do an announcement or two in order to warn the ladies to be safe when traveling to and from work. Will it be done? Doubt it. Those greedy, irreligious retards haven't got a clue about anything outside of their sordid committee power plays.

Unless we reverse the effects of Singh Sabha we really won't be able to get non-corrupt committees. Since new Immigrants are really not the wealthy type they are going to be stepped on. (Compare this pre-Singh Sabha Akal Takht Jathedar Akali Phula Singh and he would bring even the king of Punjab to heel). Now we get Manmat all over the place and true Sikhs are constantly getting hate for trying to revive Gurmat in Gurdwaras, while the Keshdhari Hindus get rewards.

Your right that its usually the newely arrived people that often get victimsed like this because they think its a safe country and they cant read the signs of what kinda people live in the country and society.

I might get a bit of contempt on here but I think the husband was really irresponsible, his wife went missing and his first thought was about his own skin. Utterly disgusting, he should have been honest flat out. I doubt the Police would have checked his immigration status.

I wonder why her work place did not call up to find where she was if she had not arrived at work. Her husband had to await her return to report her absence.

I think it has to do with some immigrant status of the Kaur.

    • lol dal panth Panj told me explicitly not to associate with Vadhbhag Singh Sodhi followers!
    • We have lamp (or Jyot) the pure unscented candle for a reason. Traditionally, Patis used candle light (jyot), so they could read SGGS in darkness. Light, elec didn't exist. Dhoop is used to attract the "Good spirits" but also keep freshness where Maharaj will be.  Interestingly and coincidentally I heard Sakhi a few dsys ago. During Dasa Pitha's time these souls were roaming the Earth and even Sangat noticed. Maharaj asked them "y u here?" They replied during recitation of SGGS and making Degh they didn't bother lighting candle. THAT WAS THEE ONLY REASON NO GATI WAS GIVEN TO THEM!!!  AUTHENTICITY NOT CHECKED I heard once on YT like 2 days ago.  If u apply dhoop in one room of your house twice a week u will notice a difference esp in the smell and freshness of that room.
    • Sangat ji, With the hot weather as per Guru's Hukm, how can we look after our kes?  First of all the beard! Working in Construction, factory and any other heated environment I UNDERSTAND! At my workplace it's over 32 degree celcius and sometimes we have to lift 20kg ALL! DAY! My tips, regularly shampoo the beard during ishnan. APPLY OIL! The technique of applying oil is by rubbing it thoroughly in the roots. Pay attention to the noise esp on the chin. You will hear this "crosh crosh" noise. Keep rubbing oil until u can't hear it no more! This means the oil has blended in properly.  Second tip on beard, keep an extra kanga in your pocket. Every two, three hours give your beard a proper comb down to get rid of any sweat or stickiness. SECOND BENEFIT! Do this all 12 months every single day your beard will look like it's been professionally groomed. TRY IT! People will ask you "What gel u use? How can yer beard be naturally like that?" You can say all I use is coconut oil or whaeva oil but just comb the beard every 2-3 hours for a minute.  As for the kes, morning time get rid of all the gronjra (or knots - forgotten English word), in the morning. However, during evening comb down make sure you get rid of small remaining gronjra and comb yer hair nice and straight. You will feel soooo so relaxed. Yes our hair will go unnoticed due to Dastar, but our hair demands time and self grooming! So proper combing down, spending a good 15-20 mins most evenings is an absolute MUST!  Most evenings I let my hair down and cover hair with my parna for 2-3 hours so it gets to relax from the tying up.  FINAL TIP! We are Sikhs so we keep fighting and remember this! The tradition of Dastar and uncut hair started in India, where the weather is twice as hot. Everytime we bring this thought in the mind, Guru ji will bless us and make us feel cooled down by a notch.  Fateh.
    • Been so much nindya and attacking Shastarvidiya since the 2000s, however if we look at gatka now it's still mostly as poor and poorly taught as it was back then, still morris dancing moves and still behzti moves in BBC shows about sikhi and vaisakhi. If people were going to attack shastarvidiya, wouldn't have made sense to improve gatka instead and make it more effective? Additionally, the Nihang Singh presence has improved greatly now, and the cracks within the the SGPC and affiliated jatha jathebandis are showing more greatly as panth becomes more knowledgable with dasam bani and itihas day-by-day, so much gyaan which was lost within panjabi sikhs during colonial times. In the 2000s, the groups were able to talk down this bani and  gyaan by associating it with  RSS and hindus, brahminwaad etc. Not working so well now is it? However with gyaan it would be also good for us to try and preserve our martial arts and keertan vidiya as well! More and more crazy keertan videos are coming out from jatha members that are being made fun of and making sangat annoyed and upset, on tiktok and instagram reels.

Being from Punjab, almost every Sardaarji i know (amritdhari or not) sleeps/showers with their hair uncovered. I don't think Guru Sahib asked us to wear Dastar to sleep and I don't think it is in SRM.   The idea of "keski being worn to sleep" is cos in Bollywood films (Bachna Ae Haseeno) Sikh characters usually tie a gol parna when sleeping since the actor's usually Hindu. So they gotta cover his head somehow or he'd have cut hair. Same reason Diljit wore a pagg to bed in the El Sueno vid. Only time they didn't do that was in Gadar with Sunny Deol which just looked odd tbh   What in the world? What sikh or even a decent human would base their knowledge of their culture or religion on a movie industry, that too Bollywood?  Believe me, no sikh ever said, I must cover my head becasue an actor did so in a movie. I've been doing it all wrong, I must start covering mh head because the sikh in that movie did.  Just because every panjabi and sardaar you know, does something, also doesn't make it right..  Follow the guru. And if you have a medical condition, then exemptions can be made.  Just admit it, because of my medical condition, I am not able to follow this rehit. Why are you getting everyone else to drop to your level?
