How should we be Managing prisoners

Our capitalism needs refreshing too. We aren't capitalists. We have a highly regulated economy that favors rich corporations and the megawealthy only. 

Too many barriers to market entry etc, and a failed banking system. 

Taxes far too high. We pay socialist taxes for no benefits. 

This country won't feed a black person, because it costs too much, or provide education or healthcare, but will happily drop a million dollar bomb on a small family of goat herders.

You want prisoners working? Pay them all to farm. Give all the food away here and abroad. Far more effective than bombs, but doesn't make a psycho rich, so they keep building bombs. 

To be clear. You need enough to stay safe. No more no less. 

If america actually cared about the rest of the world, instead of pretending to in order to invade, we'd see mass feeding and mass educational programs used instead of war. 

Instead of loaning some country the money to build roads and powerplants, then paying that loan directly to yourself, and having your people build and service it, you'd see american engineers simply teaching locals how to build and maintain powerplants from scratch. But that doesn't control them fiscally so you won't see that.

@GurjantGnostic I have seen on TV here in UK that USA has a massive economy generated from prisoners, and that's an agenda for why they have many prisoners ?

Wow can't believe I thought this way 2 years ago. What was I thinking. Making prisoners do labour for free while being watched by guards, sounds like a modern day concentration camp in the making, something China does/would do. I bet people would specifically become guards just to torment prisoners for fun. What I'd now say is the problem is too complex to be solved by some simple ideas, and my idea would've probably made things worse than they are under the guise of doing good. Too much evil is done in the name of doing good for others, and too many people think they know what they're talking about and have too many ideas. For example, politics, so many people have such strong opinions but very few people actually know what they're talking about due to lack of experience in the field or study. At so many family gatherings there's always some group of uncles who bring up Punjab politics and its always interesting how convinced people are in their ideas and want others to listen to them and accept them. I noticed I had so many silly opinions of my own, spending time thinking about how things should be and random things like this . But recently, I stopped thinking about these things and letting these ideas go. It doesn't really help me now and never did before. I could use the time instead to improve my position in life so I could eventually do real good for others through actions rather than helping imaginary people in my mind through ideas. But for this prisoner idea, I agree generally with the idea that prison should help people get their lives back together and help prepare them for a good life after prison, but some people are so messed up that there's not much one can do to help them and I got no clue how to go about sorting it all out.

Excellent point! It can be achieved but how? Bring work materials to them? Seems a hefty job. Take them to work location? Need more building and construction for that. 

In the long run a great idea I'd say.

Here's the account of Honigberger who was in charge of prisoners healthcare in Lahore prison for a while:

...........................................................I received an order from the Durbar to establish

an hospital in the jail of Lahore also, which was on the same spot whereon, a short time before, I had erected

the powder-mill. During the last two years of my office (1848 and 1840) out of 800 prisoners, only

twenty-one patients died in the space of twelve months and they, of severe wounds, marasmus, or, dysentery.

The jail, with its hospital, is situated outside the city, in one of the filthiest quarters, where all the wells of

the neighbourhood fountain contain briny or bitter water; and notwithstanding all my endeavours and remonstrances,

I could not obtain from the government any better nourishment for my patients, than the usual jail diet, so that

I was obliged, in several cases, to have recourse to a part of the unemployed funds of the public hospital of the

Durbar, in order to provide such comforts as were necessary. Taking these circumstances into consideration, my

management was peculiarly fortunate; for, during a period of two years from the foundation of

that hospital, not a single patient died of an acute disease — such as inflammation, fever, cholera, serpent

bites, &c. of which I had many cases ; some of them so dangerous, that I had to visit the patients three or

four times a-day. My successor was less fortunate ; for, during the first six months after the annexation (from

May till October 1849) while I was still in the country, he lost upwards of sixty patients out of 1 ,000, not to

mention those who were dismissed as incurable. I may state, with regard to the latter, that the experiments I

made on similar diseases had often been crowned with success. It was thought that the great mortality during

these six months was caused by the small and unhealthy situation of the hospital, in consequence of

which a larger was built, on the opposite side of the jail. The prisoners received better nourishment, were

not so oppressed by hard labor, and were permitted to use tobacco, opium, poppy-heads, hemp, churrus, &c.

which had been prohibited. I afterwards learned, that these changes had not been of much use ; and I believe

the mortality is still greater than that of the first two years.
