Here's a hukamnama from dasmesh pita, explicitly referring to divali as divali and asking the sangat to come and bring offerings personally themselves (as opposed to through masands). It was big deal in our Guru ji's time:

 We seem to lack wisdom and foresight, and prefer  quick reactionary actions and then continue dealing with the ensuing mess for the better part of a generation. 

Our lot were both fighting aganist the british and for the british with no idea of what the hell the outcome is going to be. But fight we must, lol. Same with every other hot topic that comes up. We quickly feel the need to fall into a camp and pursue it with unnecessary passion.

The British Raj was a dark era for the Panth, and that still effects our psyche to this day, (SGPC, giving Dyer siropa, Sikhs dying for causes that only benefited imperialism and dying for simply being brown on the mainland). 
 

The only thing we’ve been able to successfully do is remove Hindu Mahants for Mahants with Pagris and gatra Di Kirpan, (harder to tell the enemy now).
