Ustat-the main reason behind success of baba culture

As Punjab has got more materialistic and people have become more aspirational, this has resulted in increased problems such as health, wealth etc and people have got more desperate.

So they have fallen into the trap of going to these babas for a quick fix of their problems.

I wonder when there was less of rat race, less materialism, less complications and generally more contentment whether people followed these babas

 

I forget where this originates in Gurbani or Vaaran, but one of the characteristics of a Guru, Saint, Master, is they don't need your money.

What people fail to understand is that there should be a difference between respecting someone who has guided you towards Gurbani, i.e. a spiritual person maybe a 'Sant' and following them rather than Gurbani.

Sikhi was colonised by the British and we are still following the colonised version rather than that given by our Gurus. We had no words like 'Priest for our Granthis, Holy book for the eternal Guru, Guru Granth Sahib ji l could go on.

From a theo-political perspective our Institutions and the general Sikh public have more faith in the Western concept of leadership, that is one person leads and all others follow, rather than the concept of collective leadership and panj pardani system. We believe in elections rather than selection. We believe in making decisions by voting rather than consensus.

We need to actively work to get back to basics.

Baba/Dera culture is largely cult of personality.

Punjab and India has been going through this for thousands of years.

It is not a uniquely a religious phenomenon, it's a human phenomenon. 

Even the non-religious secular people do this. That Noam Chomsky has many followers and people treat him like a Baba (he looks like one these days). People deify him and these are atheists.

They don't even possess a compelling one of those! It's either vague promises of a brighter day he knows he'll never be able to deliver because such things are beyond him, or he just goes for the spiritual scare tactics.

There are genuine Sants though that can deliver Sangat towards Sikhi/Sachkhand direction much quicker/more easily than if they try without such Guru/teacher.

You know for example, there are whole Astpadhis in Sri Sukhmani Sahib telling of the greatness and importance of 'Sant'

No doubt there are great gurmukhs and saints.

A true sant will never enjoy his own ustat.

He will inspire people to do ustat of the Great Guru and the Akal Purakh ji.

Only God and Guru Sahib ji are perfect.

Even an accomplished saint can make mistake.

Respect a true saint but only give space to ustat of Guru Sahibaan and Akal Purakh in your mind.
