SOOHEE, FOURTH MEHL:

All that happens, and all that will happen, is by His Will. If we could do something by ourselves, we would. By ourselves, we cannot do anything at all. As it pleases the Lord, He preserves us. || 1 || O my Dear Lord, everything is in Your power. I have no power to do anything at all. As it pleases You, You forgive us. || 1 || Pause || You Yourself bless us with soul, body and everything. You Yourself cause us to act. As You issue Your Commands, so do we act, according to our pre-ordained destiny. || 2 || You created the entire Universe out of the five elements; if anyone can create a sixth, let him. You unite some with the True Guru, and cause them to understand, while others, the self-willed manmukhs, do their deeds and cry out in pain. || 3 || I cannot describe the glorious greatness of the Lord; I am foolish, thoughtless, idiotic and lowly. Please, forgive servant Nanak, O my Lord and Master; I am ignorant, but I have entered Your Sanctuary. || 4 || 4 || 15 || 24 ||

SHALOK, FIFTH MEHL:

O Friend, I pray that I may remain forever the dust of Your Feet. Nanak has entered Your Sanctuary, and beholds You ever-present. || 1 || FIFTH MEHL: Countless sinners become pure, by fixing their minds on the Feet of the Lord. The Name of God is the sixty-eight holy places of pilgrimage, O Nanak, for one who has such destiny written upon his forehead. || 2 || PAUREE: With every breath and morsel of food, chant the Name of the Lord, the Cherisher. The Lord does not forget one upon whom He has bestowed His Grace. He Himself is the Creator, and He Himself destroys. The Knower knows everything; He understands and contemplates. By His creative power, He assumes numerous forms in an instant. One whom the Lord attaches to the Truth is redeemed. One who has God on his side is never conquered. His Court is eternal and imperishable; I humbly bow to Him. || 4 ||

DHANAASAREE, THE WORD OF DEVOTEE NAAM DAYV JEE:

ONE UNIVERSAL CREATOR GOD. BY THE GRACE OF THE TRUE GURU:

They dig deep foundations, and build lofty palaces. Can anyone live longer than Markanda, who passed his days with only a handful of straw upon his head? || 1 || The Creator Lord is our only friend. O man, why are you so proud? This body is only temporary it shall pass away. || 1 || Pause || The Kaurvas, who had brothers like Duryodhan, used to proclaim, This is ours! This is ours! Their royal procession extended over sixty miles, and yet their bodies were eaten by vultures. || 2 || Sri Lanka was totally rich with gold; was anyone greater than its ruler Raavan? What happened to the elephants, tethered at his gate? In an instant, it all belonged to someone else. || 3 || The Yaadvas deceived Durbaasaa, and received their rewards. The Lord has shown mercy to His humble servant, and now Naam Dayv sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord. || 4 || 1 ||

SHALOK:

Ones destiny is activated, when one chants the Lords Name, through perfect good fortune. Fruitful is that moment, O Nanak, when one obtains the Blessed Vision of the Darshan of the Lord of the Universe. || 1 || Its value cannot be estimated; it brings peace beyond measure. O Nanak, that time alone is approved, when my Beloved meets with me. || 2 || PAUREE: Tell me, what is that time, when I shall find God? Blessed and auspicious is that moment, and that destiny, when I shall find the Lord of the Universe. Meditating on the Lord, twenty-four hours a day, my minds desires are fulfilled. SHALOK, FIFTH MEHL:

Millions of obstacles stand in the way of one who forgets the Name. O Nanak, night and day, he croaks like a raven in a deserted house. || 1 || FIFTH MEHL: Beauteous is that season, when I am united with my Beloved. I do not forget Him for a moment or an instant; O Nanak, I contemplate Him constantly. || 2 || PAUREE: Even brave and mighty men cannot withstand the powerful and overwhelming army which the five passions have gathered. The ten organs of sensation attach even detached renunciates to sensory pleasures. They seek to conquer and overpower them, and so increase their following. The world of the three dispositions is under their influence; no one can stand against them. So tell me how can the fort of doubt and the moat of Maya be overcome? Worshipping the Perfect Guru, this awesome force is subdued. I stand before Him, day and night, with my palms pressed together. || 15 ||

The hukamnama today is by Bhagat Namdevji Maharaj in the Aasaa Raag on Ang 485 of Satguru Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj.

Aasaa: (485-12)

I measure it out and cut off the noose of death. ||1||

raam naam bin gharee-a na jeeva-o. ||2||

Without the Lord’s Name, I cannot live, even for a moment. ||2||

bhagat kara-o har kay gun gaava-o.

I perform devotional worship, and sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.

aath pahar apnaa khasam Dhi-aava-o. ||3||

Twenty-four hours a day, I meditate on my Lord and Master. ||3||

su-inay kee soo-ee rupay kaa Dhaagaa.

My needle is gold, and my thread is silver.

naamay kaa chit har sa-o laagaa. ||4||3||

Naam Dayv’s mind is attached to the Lord. ||4||3||

Bhagat Namdevji Maharaj is blessing us today with his beautiful hukamnama in the Raag Aassa. The Aassa raag, which is full of hope, full of light, full of brightness, is a very light raag, very soothing raag to the mind.

Bhagatji is saying, “man mayro gaj jihbaa mayree kaatee.” Man: my mind, mayro means mine, gaj means yardstick (something to measure), jihbaa: my tongue, mayree means mine, kaatee means scissors (cutting implement). Bhagatji is saying that to control my mind is a yardstick by which I measure how far I am getting to God. Jihbaa mayree kaatee: my tongue is a scissor. What does my tongue cut through? When my tongue is praising God what does it cut through? Map map kaata-o jam kee faasee. Map map means measuring out, kaata-o means to cut through, jam kee faasee means the noose of death. I measure out all the paaps I have done and I am cutting through them, cutting through all the sins I have done and eventually by repeating God’s name I will cut through the noose of death and become immortal.

When I become immortal: kahaa kara-o jaatee: kahaa kara-o means what do I have to do, jaatee means my social status, my cast, my creed, who I am: male or female. Kah means what, kara-o paatee means my lineage, my ancestry. What do I have to do with my ancestry? Nothing! My soul is beyond all of that.

Raam ko naam japa-o din raatee. Raam means the God who is pervading everywhere, ko means of, naam means name of. The name of Raam, the name of God; japa-o means to repeat, to meditate upon, din raatee means day and night. I am meditating continuously, day and night, upon God’s name. rahaa-o: bhagatji says pause and think about this.

RaaNgan raaNga-o seevan seeva-o. raaNgan raaNga-o means to colour yourself in dye, seevan seeva-o means to sow what needs to be sown. I dye my mind in God’s name, in the colour of God’s love. seevan seeva-o: I have sown love into my heart, into my being. This has two meanings. What it means firstly is that on a spiritual level Bhagatji is saying, “My mind is coloured with the love of God and I have sown God’s name into my heart.” But it also means Bhagatji is saying, “Whilst doing the worldly work which I do such as dying and colouring and sowing; what do I do? Raam naam bin gharee-a na jeeva-o.” Raam naam means the name of God, bin means without, gharee-a means one instant, one moment, na means cannot, jeeva-o means to live. Without God’s name I cannot live for even an instant.

Bhagat kara-o har kay gun gaava-o. The way I perform devotional worship is not by bowing down to some stone, to some idol. The way I do it is; har means Waheguru, God, kay means of, gun means praises, gaava-o means to sing of. I sing the praises of God and that is my devotional worship.

Aath pahar apnaa khasam Dhi-aava-o. Aath pahar means twenty four hours a day, apnaa means mine, khasam means master, Dhi-aava-o means to meditate upon. Twenty four hours a day I meditate upon my master.

Su-inay kee soo-ee; su-inay means gold, kee means of, soo-ee means needle. My needle is made out of gold. What needle is this? This is the needle of focusing your attention on Waheguru, lovingly focusing yourself upon God. That is the golden needle. Bhagatji is using metaphors here. That is the golden needle. Rupay kaa Dhaagaa; rupa means silver, kaa means of, Dhaagaa means thread. The thread which I put through this needle, the needle of God’s love, is serving the Guru. By putting that thread through that needle what happens? Naamay kaa chit har sa-o laagaa. naamay kaa of Namdevji, chit means consciousness, har means Waheguru, sa-o means with, laagaa means to be attached. By putting the thread through the needle of God’s love, by putting the thread through serving the Guru, without serving the Guru you cannot get there. You need the Guru to get to God. By using that thread and that needle my mind becomes attached to God.

Bhagatji is saying don’t waste one minute without remembering God. Every minute we waste without remembering God is death for us. Every minute we waste is death.

The body is a patch-work of threads. The muscles are stitched together with the needles of the bones. The Lord has erected a pillar of water. • Yeah brother! Punjab has a base for industry that needs to be grown, modernized, and supported by Punjabis themselves. The vision should be, we need this and that tool....lets make it! We need this or that farm machine....lets make it! We need this or that parts...lets make them here! You already have towns like Mandi Gobindgarh and Bassi Pathana with strong industrial metal working and parts manufacturing, and cities like Ludhiana.
    • Creating a network across punjab of these village cooperatives would help us farm crops we can market to our state first and foremost, and then look at national and international market conditions to see what could be grown for particular time frames. Sharing Punjab wide data it's possible to create non-binding agreements of zones for growing certain crops. This prevents exploitation of our resources and prevents glut. If we continue to blindly grow rice and wheat when India has a surplus, then you know what is eventually going to happen. Never a good idea to have all your eggs in a two crop system, especially a system that has depleted the ground water to a depth that will not replenish, and what water is in the ground is unfit for drinking, hence the malwa cancer epidemic.
    • Addding on to what I said earlier, transitioning out of agriculture isn’t going to shut down agriculture. You can manage the same level of farming in Punjab with 1/100 the current number of people directly engaged in it, especially with modern technology. Villages can create cooperative farming lease agreements and continue ownership while living in the city. I know my farming community, there is no way in hell they will part with their ancestral land. Keeping ownership and as a partial income source without actually farming it will be the best-case scenario. I’m unsure what the average acreage of a Punjab village is, my guess would be around 500 acres. But imagine having farming scale at this level. It would be much easier to diversify, cut down on input costs, build storage facilities so they aren’t dependent on mandis, and even direct marketing.
    • Plenty Punjabis doing well in non-farming fields in UK   https://www.instagram.com/punjabi_builder_in_england/?hl=en   https://concretesingh.com/
    • With all the experience in farming and that in runs in the blood in Punjabis, plus Punjabis are generally fairly literate (compared to some in other countries in Africa, Asia and S America), they should be doing better in farming. There's even Punjab Agricultural University  https://www.pau.edu/
