Gur Fateh! There is much talk about Sarabloh, be it Bibek, Granth or what have you. I'm starting this thread to 'share' our 'thoughts' on the matter of the significance of Sarabloh for the Khalsa, however not explicitly with regard to Sarabloh Bibek or Sarabloh Granth (there are already many threads on these topics in existence), this is slightly wider...or simplier, why Sarabloh? Points to consider...(and not all necessarily Sikhi...just Sarabloh...to appreciate the ideaology) *Significance vis-a-vis other metals used in religious services, ceremonies and rituals (namely gold and copper), political/social reform... *Symbolic Value vis-a-vis availability for all/cheap …

Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!! I had an interesting discussion at school in the sixth form cafeteria with some of my sikh and muslim friends. We started talking about how the people of each religion cause a segregation within, leading to different caste's (e.g. jatt), and groups (e.g sunny, shia). We also agreed on points as such that there are people who misuse preaching (eg. sants in sikhi and pir's in islam) for their own benefit - i.e. in return for money. I talked about how there have been sants who have come to Bradford (the town i live in) in the past (not now as any self proclaimed sant who dares coming to Bradford especially singh sabha is a…

HAPPY BIRTHDAY 1 2

Today is the birthday of this great king of Punjab, who established Khalsa Raj in Punjab. i have read the book "The Sikhs" by Patwant Singh where his personality has been outlined. He was one man who knew how to deal with the british, as in making them sign a treaty according to which the gorey would not support any enemies of Sikhs. This was of great help as Punjab became a strong empire under Ranjit Singh. Sikhs, Hindus, Muslims and everyone else lived in total peace side by side with one another. He is the kind of leader an independent Punjab would want today !!

Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!! Ok, I don't know whether this subject has been discussed before, but lately I have been feeling confused about whether I should wear a Dastaar or is it permissible to wear a bandana style Keski. I took Amrit in September this year, and the Punj didn't instruct me to wear a Keski at all. Some people say it is written in Rehatnaama's and some say these are unreliable as they contain a lot of derogatory remarks against women. So which Rehatnama's state this and where can I read them? Also, it would be really helpful if anyone could post reasons as to why they think a Dastaar is necessary for an Amritdhari woman, as I k…

Khalistan chief for dialogue with Indian govt Pak Tribune Saturday, 8th November 2003 LAHORE -- Exiled President of self-designed Khalistan government Sardar Seva Singh Lilli Saturday appealed to Indian government not to stifle their movement, saying they were ready to hammer out a peaceful and political solution of the problem. "Punjab (Indian) leadership has surrendered to Hindus. Sikhs are suffering the consequences of the power hunger. There is no freedom of speech in India as 100 percent of Sikhs want freedom while some 80 percent are in the favour of Khalistan," said Seva Singh while talking to journalists at Nankana Sahib where Sikh devotees from all over the…

Should a non-amritdhari carry a Kirpan? Many times I have thought of this question but I come to no conclusion. I have seen many non-Amritdhari brothers carry a Kirpan. I have asked them the above question and they told me, 'We carry it because it is one of the 5k's and if we can have the other 4k's then why not the Kirpan?.' This arguement is defonatly solid and holds water but what leeds to my confusion is when I then ask these brothers if they would use the kirpan if need be. The reply I get from these brothers most of the time is that, 'Im not sure Im ready to use the Kirpan yet though as Im not yet an Amritdhari'. This confuses me because if one is not prepared …

http://us.rediff.com/news/2003/nov/12bihar.htm In Bihar, even horses have castes Anand Mohan Sahay in Patna | November 12, 2003 11:57 IST Last Updated: November 12, 2003 12:02 IST Something like this can only happen in Bihar. As if dividing humans along caste lines wasn't enough, horses have been given castes in the state. Horse traders at the 20-day Sonepur cattle fair near Patna look at colour, size and behaviour to classify their animals under various castes. "The horses are identified just like humans -- as Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas and Shudras," an official at the fair told rediff.com White horses with wide foreheads are considered Brahmins; brown horses…
