Idont know about other cities, but in coventry there is ddt santhiya classes every sunday at gnp gurdwara, EVERYBODY is welcome and regularly around 30/40 students attend. The class is a mixture of children, adults, amrtidhari and non amritdhari including mona's. People from different jathebandiya attend also. There is no pressure from anybody to follow ddt maryada or even any mention of it! fateh

It made me think the other day and i thought of it with a twist "Ask not what Sikhi can do for you but you can do for Sikhi" The raeson i thought of this was due to the words and teachings of Sant Waryam Singh Ji and his lifes dedication to preserve divans, audio, video and magazines. I have mentioned this on another thread but only one Gursikh seemed to have been affected by it. This forum has i would easily say over 200 - 300 active users every week but the contribution to the panth is minimal. Other then coming onto the forum to do Nindya of others or anything they can not percieve to be true or understand. This is all we have become, a panth of bitter moanins talking about how our panth has become misguided and looted in the past. However I put it to you all, who is doing anything for the future generations in any manner???? We have a massive cross section on this site of people from Aus, Asia, North America and Europe (apologies if you are from elsewhere) but what do we see from each one of us to assist the individuals who want to learn about Sikhi or come into the faith? The reason why both Islam and Hinduism are attracting so many westerners to approach their faith is due to the vast amount of work put in by people of thise faiths to make sure every possible element of their faith is available in both audio and visual means via the internet. An example is this, I wanted to learn about some vedantic granths and found the following link http://www.lazydesis.com/devotional-classical/ and from that link all i wanted was some katha on the Advaita Markaranda and got the following link which was impressive full of talks and audio on a variety of granths http://www.lazydesis.com/devotional-classical/176414-swami-tejomayananda-talks.html That was just one thread of thousands and thousands that i have come accross. It seems that everyone in the Sanatan and Muslim faith have been busy recording, posting books and uploading videos of every and any talk they can find. I thought well alot of people also become buddhists but i wonder if they do the same, again they have done ont he following site http://www.buddhanet.net/ There are books, audio, videos available. Why are Sikhs so far behind??? On none of these sites do you see the different upsampardas trying to ridicule each other or slander any prominant lecturers, saints so why do we waste our efforts on this and not try to preserve anything for the future. I think it is important to acknowledge the efforts of the other faiths in order to kickstart our own attempts at saving something for the next generation I would like to see at least 200 people on this forum assist weekly to expand the resources of our faith over the internet. If 200 people on this forum go to various Gurdwaras around the world at least once a week and on that occaision recorded the katha, keertan or dhadhi each week we would have over 200 - 400 hours of audio each week to share between us and that is if we only go once a week. If we were to go three times a week it is outstanding we could have between 600 - 1200 hours of multimedia!. Just think of how that would benefit other and yourself. With the introduction of Rapidshare, 4shared and filesonic sort of sites everyone can easily upload what they have recorded. If people have not got digital recorders that should not be an impediment to this revolution. I used to take my old boom box of a cassette player from the house to the gurdwara, put it near the fron of the divan and hit record. Record everything to my tapes. i got a lead from the shops, plugged the tape player in at home and connected it to the mic in output on the computer, downloaded freecorder from the internet and recorded all the tapes to mp3s onto my desktop. it is as easy as that Books can be converted to pdfs with a camera and some advice from Bhai Prabhjot Singh (PJS) or Mohokam Singh (MohokamSingh). So what is the difficulty here? I guess it is how much effort you personally have to get out there and do something for somebody other then yourselves. I hope this thread has hit a nerve and from now on we will see a major influx to sites and blogs over the net promoting, One agenda and that is Sikhi. If you have any issues then please PM me but i hope you will take your time to share your thoughts on this thread. If we work together we could offer so many sikh sources to the world that any type of ignorance will cease to exist.

What i suggest is rather then putting all the audio onto a specific sight we should all set up 4shared or rapidshare or similar accounts each. The reason i suggest this is so that if there are any financial implications we do not lose everything. We recently saw the Gurmatchanan website go down and for that reason if we have seperate sites we do not risk all in one pot. Lets all do what we can for the sake of the others. Those who cant be bothered accept it as your karma that do not allow you to assist in this cause.

When reciting a shabad it is always advisable to say beginning, Mehlla 3 or pauri etc as this is part of the shabad. When singing the shabad most ragies leave this out although I have seen some who will say the heading/almost like a mangalcharan - before they start singing the shabath. The Mehlla at start of a shabad indicates which Guru Sahib Ji composed the shabad. vjkk vjkf Im about to have a year out of my career, and was looking into doing some voluntary work in punjab for a few months. I was wondering if sangat here had any experience with this and could recommend any organisations or places where i could to do voluntary work. I dont mind what type of voluntary work. One issue is that my punjabi isnt great (although im from a punjabi background). thanks vjkk vjkf!

That would be awesome! Your Punjabi will improve really fast once you're speaking it all the time. Try Pingalwara or just go do sewa at various Gurudwaras. Khalsa Aid also help out with families of Shaheeds, maybe contact them?

Read what I wrote carefully - the origins of the Taksals within Sikhi are mentioned in the sources you say you've studied. There is detailed katha on the origins of Taksal by Sant Gurbachan Singh Ji, available from gurmatveechar.com. What's the reason for multiple user names?

Something tells me you haven't read any of the granths you listed. Many of them narrate the Katha of Gurbani that took place at Damdama Sahib, by Guru Gobind Singh Ji on their way to Hazoor Sahib. The Katha took 9months, 9days. Baba Deep Singh Ji was amongst the Sangat and asked Guru Ji for some sewa. Guru Ji told him that his time to fight will come, but to teach Santhiya, Gurbani veechar, parchaar etc in the meantime and to prepare Saroops of Adi Granth Sahib. Bhai Mani Singh Ji was also given this duty. From there, the 2 branches of Damdama wali Taksal began. The Damdami Taksal is not a Samparda as such, but a school or jatha. Nihang Dals have been receiving Santhiya from Taksals since they began, and continue to do so. There's a video on Youtube, shot at Baba Bakala, where this relationship is explained during an event at a Dal. In fact, most puratan Sampardas used to, and still do, receive Santhiya from one of the Taksals - either by sending SInghs there, or from the Singhs that travel from one place to another. Even Sant Gurbachan Singh Ji Khalsa, a mahaan Mahapursh, used to be a Nihang Singh before they joined the Damdami Taksal. There is a huge amount of prem/ love between the puratan Samapardas - especially in Punjab - amongst Singhs who know we are all sons/daughters of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. The tree of Sikhi has many branches and all should be respected for the duties given by Guru Ji. It is sad to see kids in the West use the names of beautiful Sikh institutions to boost their egos and create tribal wars that do nothing except feed the haumai Guru Ji tells us to wage war against. Probably because you're spelling it wrong. Damdami Taksal is the correct spelling.

There are two shools of thought : 1. It is all in His hukam so be content with what He gives you. To be able to do this needs a high level avastha. To live in His hukam is difficult, those sadhus who wonder off and don't even worry about where the next meal is going to come from because they leave it all to Him. It is faith, the stronger the faith the closer you get to Him. 2. He is our father and like a child asks his/her father then why should we not ask our father for what we need? If we are not going to go to some black magic pir, or to some fortune teller then is it not better to ask from our Guru? It is a matter of gurparshad or kirpa and it may happen at any time, if you do ardaas God may take pity on you and do kirpa so why not ask for things. But we only ask for material things never the really important one's.

Khalsa ji When a person falls ill that is hukum. When that person takes medicine and recovers that is hukum. Gurbani is the medicine that cures our karam. We come to maat lokh owing to our previous comitted deeds but naam daaru extinguishes those karam thus bringing about liberation.

Can I ask you to only comment on an intellectual level if not don't comment at all. All I am asking for is references to DamDami taksal in sikh history and not from modern Sikhs. For example the naamdhari Sikhs claim that the 10 guru returned and passed on the guruship to another living guru, modern Sikhs could claim a number of things but it doesn't make them fact! And it doesnt fill my heart with much confidence if there is no substantial evidence within our own history.

Vaheguru JiKa Khalsa Vaheguru JiKi Fateh I really need sangats help with my study. I have been researching the historic sikh organizations mainly comprising of the Nihungs, Nirmalas and Dum Dumi Taksal. I have managed to find tons of documents, scripts, images from historical granths and the three main sikh scriptures regarding the Nihungs. I have managed to find some information on the Nirmalas but i cannot find a single historical reference to Dum Dumi Taksal. I have literally looked far and wide for historical infomation about the taksal and cannot find anything at all. Also another thing that has come to light is infomation about Baba Deep Singh Shaheed. All historical references regarding Baba Deep Singh describe he was a Nihung leader of tarna dal particularly misl shaheeda and never mention a taksal. I managed to find the oldest image of Baba Deep Singh and he is dressed like a Nihung. So i am now a little confused when did Dum Dumi taksal start? and why isnt there any references in historical granths or scriptures. Granths & sources i have researched: Guru Granth Sahib Ji Dasam Granth Sahib Ji Sarbloh Granth Sahib Ji Ratankar Mahan Kosh Pracheen Panth Parkash Naveen Panth Parkash Suraj Parkash Granth Gurbilaas Pathsahi 10 British accounts of Sikhs Anglo Sikh wars British Library and so on...list is long....
