  3. Can you provide a reference to this research? And by that I don't a link to another forum or the sun. And can liquid water contain crystals - utter nonsense!! I'm open to shifting my stance when a convincing argument is made but trying to justify a point that may be right using a harry potter science is a comical and makes a mockery of rehit.

  4. Bhenji, it's best to listen to Bhai Gurdas Ji Vaars. Bhai Gurdas ji clears up a lot of misconceptions some Sikhs put in others. Satguru gave the key of Gurbani to Bhai Gurdas ji vaars. If today Sri Vaheguru ji Maharaj comes down into a form......like it did as Narsingh......then i would bow to Maharaj. The 5 elements are pure. Maharaj never makes anything unpure. Many people have made them into maya. Here is another way to understand it. We know Maharaj told us not to worship stone idols. But Gurbani tells us all of creation is the image of Sri Vaheguru ji Maharaj. One question that comes up after hearing these two lines is. Stone are part of creation so why can't we worship them as image? These two lines sound like they contradict each other, but they don't. When Maharaj is saying all of creation is the image of the Sri Vaheguru ji Maharaj, then that means i see Maharaj everywhere and in everything. So if Maharaj is everywhere, then which direction do i bow and to which object don't i bow too? When we reach a very high jeevan then Maharaj does kirpa and we start seeing Maharaj everywhere and that means even in small little creations...insects, worms, etc. Many bow to stone idols because they think its the form of Maharaj and Bhagat Namdev ji Maharaj responds to this by saying why are you bowing to one stone idol and the other stones (so called form of Maharaj) are being kicked around by you? Bhagat Namdev ji Maharaj is saying both equally have Maharaj inside but they are not the true form of Maharaj, so don't worship it. Satguru Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji Maharaj tells us that Guru is the True Form and we bow to Guru and worship Guru. So when it came to Satguru Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji Maharaj, Sri Vaheguru Ji Maharaj came as Satguru Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji Maharaj and spread Sikhi. Satguru is the true form, whether that be in human body, or as Narsingh, or as Satguru Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji Maharaj, or as Shabad Guru (these are all sargun (with form) forms of Maharaj). They are one and the same.

  8. Chatanga Mainly there are anecdotes in texts stating that the Gurus kept a Baaj (Falcon) with them. Also see these links: http://www.info-sikh.com/PageBaaj.html http://www.sikhiwiki.org/index.php/White_Falcon#Guru_Gobind_Singh_Sakhis Report on how the Baaj is on the verge of extinction: http://www.tribuneindia.com/2010/20101213/punjab.htm#16

  9. When our Gurus referred to idolatry in terms of the worship of inert stones, I wonder if they were also referencing the issue on a deeper level, i.e. the worship of Man? We see in this modern world how people fall over themselves to worship individuals, i.e. either "religious" figures or entertainers such as actors, singers, etc. We only have to look at India to see the kind of mad devotion that someone like A. Bachchan inspires in people. Away from India, the western world is obsessed with celebrity and a need to place people on pedestals and elevate them to undeserved heights. In terms of our community and our faith, we can see how, for example, our elders have given encouragement to various babeh and "Gurus" over the years. Not content to view someone as a simple holy man with a spiritual outlook and leave it at that, these fanatical followers begin to believe their particular baba is God. If we were a bit more discerning or even suspicious of anyone who claimed to have a connection to God, we wouldn't be in half the mess we're currently mired in. But anyway a bit OT.

  10. Some are not understanding where Mat Pul Rai is coming from. This is the problem we have on internet, as its difficult to explain so something in sentences as one would like, thus leading to different interpretations. One has to read between the lines in order to understand what is being, although it may look like something else. I understand what is being said. When mat pul rai says idol worshipping he does not mean the Shastars. Its not rocket science, he means humans. Instead of going into deep explanations and making Sikhi sound complicated, its simple that we should not worship people. Thus the trend of fake people who call them sants. There are sants and mahapursh. But he is not denying that, he is simply saying the fake ones that exist. Why the on earth would anybody want to drink their feets dirty water when they can take amrit or may have taken amrit. What is there higher than taking amrit? Therefore sants, mahapursh are here to help and guide us and give them the respect for that, but they are not god, even they say that and always guide one to Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji, whom are our Maharaj ji, the real ones from whom we should be getting our blessings from. This is why Guru Gobind Singh ji left us with Maharaj ji and not a human to bow down to, so we dont get misled and that we worship Waheguru, and work towards taking amrit. Well that's my thinking anyways.

  11. Quality Control example - Let say we have user "A" on our forum... who post frequently on many issues. If we forum sewadars have to edit User "A's" posts/replies more than couple of times in a day then we put user "A" under qc. If we see user "A" going against forum rules, even after our request not to do so will also end up in QC. QC usergroup members have to get pre-approval on all of their topics/replies they post here. More stuff explained well in our forum rules and guidelines under feedback sub-forum.. - Dots under usergroup shows whether you are rookie of veteran member of this forum - Random Gurbani tuks changes as your post increase day by day. I believe this was done by kulpreet singh volunteer from canada many years ago. After min. post counts, you have option to change it to whatever you like

  12. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh || QC means someone has sworn or made other inappropriate remarks and is being monitored to help control there future comments. (Usually they're against the likes of the biased Indian Media, government etc. but those remarks many times could land SS in a lawsuit so they try to keep them reasonable . Not that SS supports the above mentioned anti-Sikhs but its just not a good idea to get in trouble with the government over online comments). I have no idea what the dots mean myself (maybe they're trying to show what level your at like Pokemon levels. Kaljugi's at level 9 and your level 1 dont mess with him :biggrin2: ) And the Punjabi above is a Pankthi from Gurbani and it correponds to the number of posts made. 13. Quality Control means the person who has that particular tag under their screen-name contributes to the site with some quality contributions. Their posts are so top class that the rest of the forum is made aware of those people's superior thoughts and opinons. In a way it's a reminder to all of us to raise our game and at least try to reach those lofty heights as well. I dream of the day when I will be put on Quality Control.

  15. Sikh caught drinking alcohol by relatives who saw him at cousin’s party on Skype - killed his cousin in the row that followed By Suzannah Hills PUBLISHED: 18:23, 19 April 2012 | UPDATED: 19:44, 19 April 2012 Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2132190/Sikh-caught-drinking-alcohol-relatives-saw-cousin-s-party-Skype--killed-cousin-row-followed.html#ixzz1sZMudbnp A Sikh stabbed his cousin in a heated row after he was caught out drinking during a conversation over Skype, an inquest heard today. Kanwarjeet Singh Batth, 24, was with his cousin at a celebration in Slough, Berkshire, for a friend's upcoming wedding when they called their family back in India on the online video communication service. The inquest heard Batth thought his aunt photographed him drinking whiskey during the video conversation - which he claimed would embarrass him and bring shame to his mother if she saw it. Batth then argued with his cousin Opinderpal Singh Randhawa, 23, over the picture and stabbed him. Batth fled the scene and remains at large since the knifing in December 2010. His cousin Mr Randhawa later died in hospital from his wounds. Another guest at the celebration, Gurpreet Singh Saran, told the inquest: 'He (Batth) somehow heard the click of a photo back in India and he had a glass in his hand and there was a bottle in front of him on the table that he was worried about. 'Opinderpal took it lightly and jokingly said that everybody in India knew that he drank and asked what was the big deal about it The court heard that Mr Randhawa was offended when Batth got upset about the photo - claiming he had slighted his mother. The inquest was told Mr Randhawa went to punch his cousin and attempted to smash a glass bottle on Batth’s head. A group of four friends eventually pulled the men apart and thought the matter had been settled. But the inquest heard Batth headed for the kitchen and returned with a knife in his hands - allegedly stabbing his cousin Mr Randhawa. Berkshire Coroner Peter Bedford said: 'It seems after they were separated Mr Batth left and went to the kitchen. Two witnesses have described him fetching a knife and it appeared Mr Randhawa followed. 'The result of which was a single fatal stab wound delivered to Mr Randhawa’s abdomen.' Police and paramedics were called to the flat but Batth had left before they arrived. Mr Randhawa died from a stab wound at Wexham Park Hospital, Slough, after suffering a cardiac arrest in the ambulance while on route. A post mortem examination concluded that he died as a result of haemorrhage of an arterial blood vessel due to a stab wound. The party guests initially told officers that Mr Randhawa had injured himself after slipping on glass and only later when under arrest the truth came out. Batth spent two days in Luton, Bedfordshire, with a friend who he only told that he had 'messed up' before vanishing - he has not been seen since. Coroner Bedford continued: 'Mr Batth’s whereabouts remain unknown and he is still to be questioned about the tragic events. 'It is clear Mr Randhawa died as a result of a single fatal stab wound caused by a violent exchange between himself and Mr Batth.' Mr Bedford recorded a verdict that Mr Randhawa was unlawfully killed. Speaking after the hearing in Windsor, Berkshire, acting Detective Inspector Ali Driver appealed for anyone with information about Batth’s whereabouts to contact police. He said: 'We do not believe that Mr Batth is still in the country and we are sure that somebody knows where he is. 'This is still an active investigation and we are still working very hard to find Mr Batth and would be pleased to receive any information about his whereabouts.' Batth was believed to have left the UK following the incident without his passport, which the Police have. Officers think may be in hiding in Europe. The use of the word 'Sikh' in this article has no relevance to the article. It is only being used for cheap publicity and to vilify the Sikh community. Please lodge complaints with the Daily Mail and press complaint commission. http://www.pcc.org.uk/complaints/makingacomplaint.html It breaches the following clause of the codes of conduct: 12 Discrimination i) The press must avoid prejudicial or pejorative reference to an individual's race, colour, religion, gender, sexual orientation or to any physical or mental illness or disability. ii) Details of an individual's race, colour, religion, sexual orientation, physical or mental illness or disability must be avoided unless genuinely relevant to the story. This is happening way to often. So many articles are being published mentioning the word 'Sikh' when it has no relevance to the subject matter. http://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/9651713.Academic_cleared_of_killing_best_friend/?ref=nt I know Sikh Channel are acting on this but what are the Sikh Council and other UK Sikh bodies doing? Furthermore, what are we all doing to register our discontent on this matter?

  19. I think the punjabi songs that are being released nowadays totally rubbish. They have no meaning, lyrics that dont make sense, also that dont even match the videos to go with them, and its all about drinking and clubbing and girls with hardly any clothes on, guys in expensive cars which normal people cant afford, which is ridiculous. No wonder the youngsters want to go clubbing and want to have the latest fashion designer clothes. If they spent that money on something else their lives would be so much rewarding and worth living, instead of nothing to show for it at the end of the day. When I was that age I had nothing given to me by my parents, and we were not spoilt, we had to work for what we wanted. Nowadays I feel the parents spoil them too much and let them get away with things. Discipline and respect begins at home and that is where they are going to learn it, and the record companies are stupid to sway them away from their families that they rebel against them, just for the sake of money. If you are going to make a song at least make a decent one or something that when one listens to it, would stand out as a moral and respectable song.

  20. I'm not a fan of the term "pappu" but some of our people need to sit down and read our history before chiming in. I've come to the conclusion that the West is as hypocritcal as they come and there's not a chance in hell I'm watering-down Sikh history (the little I know so far) if on the off-chance someone asks me to explain our history and major faith concepts to non-Sikhs, just so they don't feel offended or threatened. As Darth Vader would say "The Pappu is strong in this one". RebelSingh, you've radicalised me! :lol2:

  22. Outer rehit- 5 K's- Refrain yourself from 4 kurahits- eating meat, having sexual intercourse(bhog bilas) outside marriage, cutting/trimming/shaving kesh, taking drugs, maintaining abek and outer bibek. I take outer rehat as uniform in the school- basic requirement. No If or buts, basic requirement. As beginner sikh who have taken amrit(admission), this is must- hatt is must/basic requirement/uniform in School of Sikhi its policy requirement, it's not up for debate or playing around with circles with it. Have you ever seen in real life- students in high school/colleges/universities fighting over basic requirement/uniform and spend all their time doing that? NO, they accept it and move on to look at more monumental task of 4-5 years of hard studying, passing exams and getting degree. Once we can comprehend above and we need to move on and look and understand of syllabus/courses in Sikhi Read the below in context of stages. I must state truth and post whole sikh journey in its totality rather just one portion: Inner rehit- doing panj banis, doing simran jap via gurmantar, mool mantar, doing gurbani vichar, discussing adyatamik (spiritual) school of thoughts, learning languages ie- sanskrit, farsi, urdu, persian, braj basha, sadhu basha to understand scriptures, learning bhram vidiya, have seva bhavna and do seva, have virtues- compassion, nonviolence, be in god's will, humility, pateince, contenment, truth to combat- 5 vices- lust, anger, attachment, greed, ego , observe your mind/thought process/study it and with simran eliminate thoughts, anxeity. For begineers, both inner and outer rehit are important. However in bhramgyan avastha, many of very famous sikh mahapursh depending on their nature (three natures of bhramgan- daanie, divanie, mastane) didnt felt an need to follow some parts in outer and inner rehit and still follow gurmat sidhant from "bhramgyan angle", if you are unsure what that gurmat sidhant is, look no further, read no further my bakvas, books written by soo and soo sant or bhai sahib, just read sri akaal ustat, all the kandan of karam kaand which people idolize (as opposed to an stage) its bluntly there. If you thinking guru ji is reffering to karam kands done by hindus not sikhs around that time or will be doing in future, you are sadly mistaken. Karam kands and elements in shariat stage(elements in both inner and outer rehit) - wearing kakars most difinately needed for jaigaso/abhilkes so kakars are constant reminder of any wrong doings but right at this time we are talking about bhramgyanis(depending on their nature), its not mandatory for them As sukhmani sahib says explaining status of bhramgyani: braham giaanee lae dhhaavath bandhhaa || braham giaanee kaa anth n paar || braham giaanee kaa sagal akaar || braham giaanee aap nirankaar || Guru maharaj and his ladlaie Bhramgyanis cannot be bound to maryada. Very logically speaking- in a school its only students requires read/follow through rules of school and text book not the teachers but some teachers being concerned students might go astray, they also read through and follow through rules of text book such teachers are called danaie/ Purshutam Maryada Mahpursh such as sant gurbachan singh ji bhindranwale/Bhai sahib bhai randhir singh ji and many more. There are some elements in outer rehit ie- bibek, wearing kakars and inner rehit- learning languages, observing your mind/thought process/studying it which are exceptional from cases to cases as in such elements are there as a rehat to get you to God but they are not God themselves...once person is in turiya avastha/sam avastha. He/she is not bound to follow certain elements in both outer and inner rehit. Now lets talk about guru gobind singh ji maharaj, putting rules/maryada on mahapursh is morakhta but putting rules or maryada on sri guru gobind singh ji- nirankari jot in sargun saroop is MAHA morakhata. I ll give two historical examples of how sri guru gobind singh ji adapted outer garb by his own hakum/ by his own mauj/ and by his own masti. 1. When sri guru gobind singh ji clapped his hand as uch da pir, he wore traditional muslim dress. 2. When sri guru gobind singh ji started nirmale samparda, he wore a traditional phagva sadhu color and sent 5 singhs who also wore phagva sadhu color to kashi, banares. We(Sikhs) have started judging our khasam Guru by own little mats(standards). We got people who start rejecting relics of maharaj and bachitar natak by questioning the act of Guru. Why did he felt a need to write a autiobiography of himself? he cannot wear seli topi. We judge our khasam guru according to our own standards, that nirankari jot who came into this world to break shackles of soceity (shariavaad, bhraminvaad) can dress in which ever way they want, they dont your premission nor the rehit like you must wear dumala or dastar applies to them. I cannot beleive sikhs restricting their own guru maharaj act by the rehit maryada in rehit namas which were written gurmukhs so that jaigaso can stay in rehit (free from sins) maryada(remeber death). Question to people- Guru Maharaj who made all this sristi, rehat maryada does his own rules apply to him? maryada is for students, stopping applying maryada's to guru(Teacher). Have you ever heard of physics teacher, completing exams along with his students in the class rom? no he is the one marks the exams. What if Guru Sahib give us darshan in livaaj(dress) of almast fakir(contary to most people mindset of how Guru dressed like ie- bibeki, 9 inch kirpan etc etc), dastar to test us(sikhs).. is my sikh got to avastha of advait(non duality)/ bhagat namdev where he saw God in Dog and every where? What if Guru Sahib comes to the house of Sikh in form of gareeb(poor person) to test his sikh,.. did my sikh reached the state "free" from dvaish(partiality) towards other human regardless of their dharam? would we able to recnognize him? Guru Ji can take whichever form he wishes in sargun form to test his Sikh because Guru ji is a nirankari jot... what scares me or send shivers down to my spine that we sikhs may even reject our own Guru as "kafir" because we have certain idol in our mind who guru would have dressed like and start idiolising that imaginary idol by that we start judging Guru Sahiban with our standards(little mat and buddhi), narrow minded views. ========== Foot notes: Three natures of Bhramgyanis*: source: The Radiance of complete journey to Akaal Purkh by Sant baba Jagjit Singh Ji Harkhowaley. Three kinds of BhramGyani(Sants,Mahatama, Mahapursh)... 1. Mastane: Intoxicated ones through remembrance get themselves merged with Almighty(Vahiguroo). More carefree un-attached will boldly function. Do not reveal their secret. Talk in Mysterious tone. Very few rarely come to understand. Have no time to teach common people. Always remain lost in spiritual contemplation. Some rare persons can take benefit from them. 2. Divane- Madhin lover remain intoxicated in God's love but give out sometime such inner secret that proves a source of life for the seekers, who after having themselves proven worth in their sight are also able to colour others in God's Love. 3. Daane- The wise ones who live according to what they preach and talk in understandable tone which benefits all and hearing which people renounce evil deeds. They always treat the path of truth and are eager for welfare of one and all.

  23. It comes from Guru Gobind Singh Ji accepting gifts / giving "asheervad" / marking his approval with the use of his Teer whilst being on his Asthaan. In Hazoor Sahib bhog and acceptance of items like Rumallas for Guru Maharaj is still blessed with a Teer. The Kirpan Bhet is adapted from here, since it is the most common shastar of the Khalsa.
