  6. A Candle in the Dark – An Exhibition of Sikh History The National Sikh Youth Federation will on 30 October launch in the UK Parliament an exhibition of Sikh history. This exhibition will showcase how, in the context of Sikh history, Guru Nanak’s mission to build a truly utopian society encountered violent opposition. We will take you on a journey through the challenges we have faced from the beginnings of the Sikh Way, right up to the shocking events of our recent history, the Delhi Genocide of November 1984. This exhibition is being launched to commemorate the atrocities of the Delhi genocide in November 1984. An estimated 30,000 Sikhs were killed in an orchestrated and premeditated attack aiming to vanquish enduring proponents of Guru Nanak’s ideology; who did not succumb to the atrocities of the attack on Amritsar (Operation Blue Star) and the purge of Sikh youth in Operation Woodrose. This will be a national exhibition, which will tour the United Kingdom for 6-8 weeks with venues currently booked in: London 31st Oct – 4th Nov Midlands 8th Nov – 11th Nov Leeds 15th Nov – 18th Nov Glasgow 22nd Nov – 25th Nov Cardiff 29th Nov – 2nd Dec

  7. Finally, a Sikh leader with a backbone. http://www.sikhchic....?cat=26&id=3781 Lord INDARJIT SINGH To Teji Bindra New York, USA 25-10-12 Dear Tejinder ji, Sat Sri Akal Re: Sikh Heritage Arts Gala 2012 I am writing to inform you that I will not be attending the Sikh Arts and Film Festival. When Dr Narinder Singh Kapany informed me that Sikhs in New York wished to honour me for becoming the first turbaned Sikh in the British Parliament, I agreed. I was given to understand that it would be at a function of Sikh Heritage Awards. I now learn from the detailed Programme sent me that it is a Festival of Indian Films with dinner and dance in the presence of dignitaries from and representatives of the Indian government. This festive event coincides with the anniversary of the government planned systematic slaughter and rape of thousands of Sikhs throughout the length and breadth of India following the assassination of Indira Gandhi, commencing with Rajiv Gandhi's broadcast incitement of "khoon ka badla khoon" - "Exact blood for blood". ( An official in Africa recently received a lengthy jail term from the International Criminal Court for lesser incitement). Ever since 1984, I have campaigned tirelessly for those responsible for this genocide against Sikhs to be brought to justice through articles in the Sikh Messenger , the Journal of Amnesty International, articles in the Times, the Guardian and other British, French, American and Arabic journals and in radio and TV broadcasts. My effort and those of many others for the Indian government to respect civilised norms and bring those responsible to justice have simply fallen on deaf ears. In the circumstances, I hope you will understand why on the anniversary of this massacre, I cannot join you with your guests from the Indian government. My apologies for any inconvenience. Kind regards Dr. Indarjit Singh ( Lord Singh of Wimbledon)

  8. British Kurds have some British parliamentary support to formally recognise the ethnic cleansing of their people by Saddam Hussein as a genocide. They are trying to further increase that very support across a wider political spectrum. Regarding 1984 pograms and subsequent "operations", this is something us Sikhs could learn from. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-20110420 Iraqi Kurds in Britain have begun a campaign for the mass murder of their people in Iraq in the late-1980s to be formally recognised as genocide. At least 180,000 Kurds were killed by Saddam Hussein's forces. The justice4genocide campaign says many more died in atrocities carried out by regimes from the 1960s onwards. It is petitioning the UK government to declare the mass killing of Kurds as a genocide and press the European Union and United Nations to do the same. The campaign has the support of a number of British MPs and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). The KRG's representative in Britain, Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman, said she hoped the campaign would eventually lead to trials at the international criminal court. Ms Rahman said: "Different people were responsible through different decades, so there are many, many people who have blood on their hands. "Even though Saddam Hussein was charged with genocide he wasn't actually tried for genocide so that's another frustration for survivors." Both Hussein and his cousin, Ali Hassan al-Majid - known as Chemical Ali - were put to death. Towards the end of the Iran-Iraq war, they targeted the Kurdish population in the north of Iraq. In the most notorious attack, warplanes dropped chemical bombs on the town of Halabja, killing 5,000 men, women and children. Shaho Qadir was 13 at the time. A bomb blew off both his legs. "It was like a nightmare for me. It was just unbelievable - in one second losing your legs. You can't believe it," he said. Mr Qadir joined justice4genocide to gather signatures for their petition in London, where campaigners read out the names of some of those killed. A spokesperson for the British Foreign Office said: "It is clear that appalling atrocities have been perpetrated against the Iraqi Kurds and other minorities. "We have always condemned those crimes, which caused so much suffering to so many people. "Today, we work closely with all of the people of Iraq to help support a stable, democratic and prosperous country where such atrocities can never happen again."

  9. Giving it out for free doesn't negate the manner in which the animal is killed. If they think by handing out meat will somehow balance the scales of "justice" in their favour (by cancelling out the animal slaughter) then they're having a laugh. Yet still I say they (and anyone else for that matter) can do whatever they like. I just don't agree with it, and I'll stick to whatever sits right with my conscience. Put it this way: If I wasn't a Sikh I still wouldn't eat meat. That's the easiest way I can describe where I'm coming from. Some people eat meat but prefer not to think about how it ended up on their plate. Apparently it puts them off. :biggrin2: Not me though. I'm a bird-seed and leaf eater.

  11. I be last one on this earth to do any kind of khandan mandan of maryada or nitneem of panj banis/panj granthi or das granthi or any sargun rituals for that matter. But i am against just like gurmat is- against individual dogmatic mindset/perception/notions behind the panj baniya nitnem which ultimately falls into karam kaand as sri guru nanak dev ji was against dogmatic notions of qazis who was doing panj namaza and pandits doing the same. Gurbani is like liquid medicine, it will only take effect when patient takes mediciation fully inside not just gargle the medicine and spit it out. This issue is quite personal for me as i have seen this first hand in my own family: I will give two examples from my immediate family- one is following gurmat and other one is following not sure what but definitely NOT tat Gurmat. Both my immediate family members uncle and aunty have doing nitnem of panj baniyas/rehras/sohila and following gursikhi rehat- getting up at amritvela, doing nitneem/naam for past 20 years or so. I will start off with my uncle who is actually doing panj baniyas according to Gurmat. My uncle- He does panj banis but its not ritualistic..sometimes it takes him 6 hrs to do mool mantar and japji sahib let alone with all other banis but usually he is done with all his panj baniya within 4 hrs (no he does not hurry to displease protestant version of wrathful vahiguroo upstairs or wait get whimped by vahiguroo standing with a stick but rather loose himself in depth in love of vahiguroo). He goes deep into each pauri, each akhar of gurbani but most importantly he is honest with himself he let his consciousness flow with gurbani than binding itself to rituals/techanalities of it i.e clock, follow the rule thats it. All panj baniyas or whole gurbani for that matter have full gyan of both sargun and nirgun and fully samarath to provide ekta of sargun and nirgun which it could take one in deep samadhi where idolistic/dogmatic notion of rehat maryada of nitnem does not apply....rehat maryada typically means is to live in constant reminder of death but once in gurbani there is stage but rehit maryada is perceived as rehat in spiritual sense itself means to free and maryada- maryada (free itself from death)..it supposed to free you to take a full dive in gurbani not bind you with sharia rules...so again perception of rehat maryada being as remembrance of death changes to perception of rehat maryada as- rehat(free) itself from death(maryada) once fully dived in gurbani..its a human consciousness stage. One time he told me he lost himself in gyan of jaap sahib..he is amazing when he comes out from room..one can tell/feel the radiance on his face and feel the energy. One can tell gurbani cured him totally that he is intoxicated with gurbani and naturally (rather than mechanical or robotic) start showing sat gun attributes such as - dya, sat, santokh, prem, bibek-discrimantory power to filter bad from good, good from bad, gyan universal love and oneness- advait. I think its not a strech to say that many nitnemi sikhs out there, don't even know meanings of jaap sahib- attributes of sargun and nirgun vahiguroo let alone loosing yourself in it. My aunty on the other hand completes her nitneem in 1 hr. She recites nitnem banis as if she has to catch a train like a parrot with no concentration. Now leaving concept of surti capturing/going through gurbani same speed as tongue aside as that is quite higher state only bhramgyani could do that...the way she does her nitnem baniyas is totally dogmatic ritual/karam kaand. You can evidently and obviously tell when one performs dogmatic ritual/karam kand by the expression of their face and the way they recite their nitneem but more importantly by attributes they show to others, still pretty much same crap- victim to same panj chor, do chugliya, be superficial, hypocrite, arrogant self righteous attitude, black and white attitude, self absorbed, walk around with entitlement. I think you will find in soraj parkash granth but once - sikhs did benti to sri guru gobind singh ji by saying- we have been reciting gurbani every day for long hours- how come its not bringing change compare to other singhs. Guru maharaj addresses to sangat. Gurbani is like a medicine. Patient need to take medicine inside before it could do its effect. Those who have complaints blame yourself because you are actually not taking gurbani as medicine inside but rather doing gargles of medicine and spiting out. Hence, having no effect.!! At the end, there is no question amount of karam kand dogmatic mindset have crept in sikhi, updesh given in gurbani to typical karam kandi - pandit or qazisis needed more than ever to sikhs themselves at this current time than anyone else. We have moral duty to discourage that kind of mindset or mentality. Path of Sikhi is double edge sword, very very slipperly slope and have many land marks, if landmarks are not perceived in right manner that could itself become a road block, anything and everything could be road block. Basically, flow of human consciouness connected with gurbani in sikhi should be spontaneous and natural and fluid In layman terms, be honest with yourself.. if you cannot witness your human consciousness progressing- diving in dephtness of gurbani and start having sat gun attributes listed above naturally and naturally rising above from panj chor while doing nitnem or following any maryada for that matter than there is a big problem.... not with the ritual itself but with your perception itself while you are engaging in maryada..there is a big problem..get up from asan, drop everything (i meant not literally) yeah drop everything, go humbly to dhan dhan dhan sri guru granth sahib to ardas and take hukamnama, if its meant to be- guru maharaj himself will destroy all the doubts inside you, free you from shackles from shariat and take you like he has for my uncle in real rehat maryada (rehat- free maryada- from death- both symbolically/practically).

  12. Slitting the throat only hurts for animals who don't have military training. Just look at General Brar. At 78 years old, he was able to fight off multiple attackers that were much younger than him. That is why he didn't bleed to death from his injuries, and is giving interviews on Indian television today.

  13. http://www.indianexp...tle-mha/1021895 Mahatma Gandhi cannot be accorded the 'Father of the Nation' title by government as the Constitution does not permit any titles except educational and military ones, the Home Ministry has said. In an RTI response to Lucknow-based student Aishwarya Parashar, the Home Ministry has told her that no action was taken on her plea to the President to declare Mahatma Gandhi as 'Father of the Nation' because Article 18 (1) of the Constitution does not permit any titles except education and military ones. Aishwarya had filed number of RTI petitions seeking details about Gandhi and the reasons of referring him as Father of the Nation. In response, she was told that no such title has been accorded to Gandhi. Driven by a patriot zeal, Class VI student Aishwarya wrote to the then President Pratibha Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to issue a notification declaring Mahatma Gandhi as 'Father of the Nation'. Aishwarya had filed an RTI petition seeking to know the action taken on her plea by the President and the Prime Minister. The application was transferred to the Home Ministry with instructions to explain the action taken on her plea. In its response, the Home Ministry told Aishwarya the above mentioned reason why the title of 'Father of the Nation' cannot be accorded to Gandhi.

  16. There are several dialects in Punjabi. There is a Malwa dialect, Doaba dialect and Majha dialect. Therefore the two sentences you posted are punjabi from my understanding but they are different dialects. Like I would use the first one but my friends use the second one. It just depends on where in Punjab you go, because certain areas have different dialects than others.

  19. This is the real Shiv Sena. They can attack only innocent cab drivers, students, journalists and others like these poor workers who sound from their accent as natives of either Bihar or UP. They cannot and will not dare to as much as come close to a real Singh of Sri Dasmesh Pita jee. Making loud and provocative videos and putting them on YouTube is the max they can do as their vain attempt to scare. Singhs challenged them to come to a spot at a scheduled date and time but not a single one showed up.

  22. you would have got your answers if you had done some research or simple reading into modern sikh history. Sant Jarnail Singh was in the Golden Temple as part of the Dharam Yudh morcha, as were all the Akali Leaders. They were there for a specific purpose. As events unfolded, it became impossible for Sant Ji to leave, and even further down the line, it was wiser that he hadnt left, as indira had already made up her mind to attack the Sikhs with the indian ravan sena. As for the Golden Temple not being a place for fighting wars, i would really recommend that you read Sikh history.

  25. Called Gurughar number above. Got usual response that the hall is run by a separate committee... blah blah blah...has local government funding so is really owned by the council... blah blah blah. I asked then why they called it the "Sikh" Leisure centre if it's owned by the council but didn't get a response from him. Short call, wasn't really willing to discuss further. Usual rubbish. Just another UK Gurdwara Hall used for manmat.

  29. That's in your imagination only. I'll say it again more clearly, so you might grasp it. A lot (if not most) of the monay of today are the direct descendants of the people who historically made up the Khalsa panth. Nothing you say can change this historical fact. So those monay, whether you like it or not - DO have everything to do with the panth. Sure, we may need to try and analyse why things have gone the way they have these days - but to ignore the link between these people and the historic Khalsa is pure delusion. Plus, if the crap hits the fan, you will find plenty of monay who will place themselves under a metaphoric Sikh banner as this is what they identify themselves with - you saw that with the riots that took place in England with PLENTY of monay ready to defend and fight for Gurdwaray. Plus let's be honest, if you were attacked by people who tried to take you pagh off (which used to happen where I was growing up back in the day) - you'd be happy as hell to have some mona jump in and help you. To be totally blunt - and knowingly at the risk of offending - personally I find the way certain Amritdharis, who are extremely cowardly in a physical sense (and there are a few of them out there like that sadly) give it large about their Khalsa credentials - is plain hypocrisy as we all know just how tough and physically prepared for violence the original Khalsa was. Lets be frank, all of us today are mere pretenders to our exalted ancestors.
