  2. Waheguruji ka khalsa waheguruji ki fateh bhenji. Glad to hear that you've chosen the path of sikhi that many, who're born into sikh families, find difficult. I'm assuming that you must have been attracted towards some aspects or something peculiar must have happened in your life that drew you towards Sikhi. People often ask, like Gurpreet14 bhenji has asked above, how does that happen? The answer is...it's all Karam. You must've had some really good karams that you got Amrit and have been able to adopt Sikhi. Listen to the Katha linked below, bhenji. Baba Hari Singh Randhawe wale have explained how every time one tries to progress spiritually, a bad-karam comes forwards and we have to endure the result of or as we say in Punjabi: Karam bhogna paina. Now how does one erase those Karams? Nishkaam-sewa, Keertan, Satsang are a few of the easier methods. Also, do not take our Nitnem for granted. Sant Giani Kartar Singh Ji Bhindranwale say in his katha that one day's nitnem, washes away Sanchit-Karam (collective deeds) of 100 previous births. On another note, is there anything that makes you sad or depressed? A bad mood doesn't allow one to progress spiritually either. It's often necessary to try and see if there is an underlying issue. Hope I have been of a little help, Bhenji. Take care.

  3. And does being a Sikh preclude us from learning from mythologies, be they classic or modern? Do tales, myths and stories not have some universal truths contained within them about the human condition and human experience? When Guru Gobind Singh Ji use to regale his warriors with tales of valour from the Mahabharata, did his Singhs use to say "These stories are of no use to us Guru Ji, tell us some stories about only Sikhs and Sikh exploits. We don't want none of that Hindu rubbish distracting us"?

  4. As for a real discussion. The original namdharis were followers of Guru Granth Sahib Ji - the organization got tainted after a few generations and they changed the history. The founding namdhari Sikh was a Khalsa who had utmost love for Guru Sahib.

  6. But how true are her words? "You see it's the slow knife that takes it time, the knife that waits years without forgetting that slips quietly in between the bones and cuts deepest." A lesson to us all that waiting, planning and biding our time for the moment to strike is much better than a hot-headed botch. At least that's what I got from it.

  11. Mafi karan di koi lor nahin. Like I said deep down you're a good guy. Let go of what you did and do not let it fill your mind with guilt. Removing temptation is best if you are concerned it may happen again, by not having an internet phone with you when out and about like that. We all learn from past actions and our ability to make changes for the good are a measure of our sincerity.

  12. A sad loss indeed, but on the positive side, he was able to leave a massive legacy behind in the form of many great students worldwide, especially his extremely talented daughter Anoushka: I do ardaas the Panth is able to revive gurmat sangeet back to it's former glory, and that sangat attitudes can change to appreciate the beauty and divine science that is raag, performed on the instruments that were made to reflect the raags true nature. Guru Gobind Singh Ji was a true King - i.e. a Patron of the highest (divine) arts and culture. They lead by example in all fields, the Khalsa Panth 'should' be the epitome of high art world wide - of classical music, the fighting arts, language, literature, poetry, ethical politics, ethical economics, environmental consciousness, selfless philanthropy, academia etc Of course all the above should be practiced to enhance our spiritual existence, but also to set a ‘standard’ to inspire all humanity to achieve the highest heights in their own denominations. We should equally, seek to learn from and be inspired by ‘all’ humanity in the important arts, and seek to acquire them and integrate/promote them in our Khalsa circles, for the benefit of an enhanced and role model jeevan. Whilst prema bhagti is the reason for our existence, and our serving primary objective in life, how we live our lives, conduct ourselves, speak, sing and think, should always be in a way that justifies carrying the image of the King of Kings.

  13. jagbir singh so called babbar, i suppose we are also living in a "kookoo land" for believing that the chote sahibzade of 5 and 8 gave up their lives instead of having their hair cut, along with countless other shaheed singhs and singhnis? It is not about Guroo Sahib's forgiving nature, it is about the chardikalaa of Maharaj's sikhs, who cared about thier guroo more than their lives. To suggest that they would commit a kurehit to save their lives is sayign that they valued their lives over thier Guroo. Satguroo is dayal yes, if he is dayal enough to forgive, then he is dayal enough to make a sikh bear the unbearable.

  15. Swami Ramakrishan Parmhans - The Film A very accurate portrayal of Shri Ramakrishna's life and that of his disciples. Kanu Banerji stars as Sri Ramakrishna in this old film of Sri Ramakrishna's life. English subtitles have been added as the soundtrack is in Bengali.

  17. Agreed, I havent come across any sources that claim where Ram Singh called himself a Guru or ever claimed to be a Guru, Ram Singh left the armies of Nau Nihal Singh after he saw the corruptness creeping into the brand of Sikhi in Punjab at the time. He sent a Jatha to Hazur Sahib to learn of traditional maryada, which is why their are similarities with Hazur Sahib Maryada..such as full belief in both Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj and Dasam Granth. Naamdharis also read banis such as Chandi DI Vaar etc..similar to Nihang tradtions.Somewhere along the line after Ram SIngh was exiled by the British...the Naamdhari movement was "spin doctored" and stories got invented about continutaion of Guruship etc..and the Naamdhari cult movment was created I highly doubt this was what Ram Singh wiuld have wanted.

  20. I agree Ram Singh, was well respected and naamdharis in general sacrificed a lot during the independence movement. Ram Singh was a shastardhari khalsa who was on nau nihal singhs army.

I am sure that I read recently about an experience N30 had when hiking up a mountain in Canada (hey I know its a big country - cannot recall the thread or the place which he did specify) and by chance (vadbaghi kismat) recieved darshan of this Mahapurukh who too was going on the same hike. I would get hiking in that area if its near you.

  26. This is where parents go wrong in our community - kids are led into puberty blindfolded. I recently had the dillema of how do I discuss growing up, body changes, birds and bees etc with my oldest. There are some great books out there for parents to go through with their kids. Worth doing, otherwise you get kids coming onto SikhSangat for such answers. Kids can be taught how to be confident in changes that will occur over the next few years and still be guided by Sikhi principles. But really this needs to come from the parents, not strangers or uncle xyz....

  27. Great if namdhari clan decides to join mainstream Sikh Kaum. Sadly not going to happen. Few jathas left that are attached to sikhi core Sikh values; taksal, akj and few nihungs - hazoor sahib. I wonder what will happen to baba Jagjit singh's luxury fleet, including maybach.

  28. N30 SINGH you said ''Great loss to gurmat sangeet vidya, all in all ..great saint..kept it to himself..RIP.!! '' How would you know he was a great saint? Did you read about it, or did God tell you that! Mainstream Sikhs have no respect for those who manipulate Tat Gurmat to set up themselves as Gurus and twist and manipulate Sikh history to suit their own purposes. This man was approached and knew there was an open invitation for him and his followers to come back into the fold of mainstream Sikhi but his stubbornness and pride and desire to continue his sect and to be continued to call a Guru became another missed oppurtunity. A true saint realises that Guru Granth Sahib is our Eternal Guru and that our last Living Guru was Guru Gobind Singh. Anyone who milks Sikhism to set up their own shop and start a new Guru lineage using and subverting Sikhism is guilthy of crime whether dead or alive. Not a saint but a wolf in sheep's clothing!

  29. See, how people write leave applications. It's murder of English language. But Too Funny. Just Read It. The Leave Applications An employee applied for leave as follows: "Since I have to go to my village to sell my land along with my wife, please sanction me one-week leave.." From an employee who was performing the "mundan" ceremony of his 10 year old son: "as I want to shave my son's head, please leave me for two days.." Leave-letter from an employee who was performing his daughter's wedding: "as I am marrying my daughter, please grant a week's leave.." another one-- "As my mother-in-law has expired and I am only one responsible for it, please grant me 10 days leave." Another employee applied for half day leave as follows: "Since I've to go to the cremation ground at 10 o-clock and I may not return, please grant me half day casual leave" An incident of a leave letter: "I am suffering from fever, please declare one-day holiday.." A leave letter to the headmaster: "As I am studying in this school I am suffering from headache. I request you to leave me today" Another leave letter written to the headmaster: "As my headache is paining, please grant me leave for the day." Covering note: "I am enclosed herewith..." Another one: "Dear Sir: with reference to the above, please refer to my below..." Actual letter written for application of leave: "My wife is suffering from sickness and as I am her only husband at home I may be granted leave". Letter writing:- "I am well here and hope you are also in the same well." A candidate's job application: "This has reference to your advertisement calling for a ' Typist and an Accountant - Male or Female'.... As I am both(!! )for the past several years and I can handle both with good experience, I am applying for the post.

  32. Thank to above posters..very interesting. It woud be great to hear about other people's experiences. Does anyone else have any elders/family/friends who have been in the army. Which campaigns/wards/battles were they in and what were their experiences? It would be great to build up a little collection of these stories before they get lost into history with elders passing away and taking their previous and invaluable memories/experiences with them. These are jewels of Sikh history and should be archived or at least spread and learnt about. We can start by sharing any memories/stories here in this thread.

NAK VICH MIRCHAN PADOOO JE HOJOO PANGA ~~ Seriously though, after the recent report (I read it on forbes) I'd consider moving to the Bay Area after I'm settled. Never thought I'd say that, but it's a possibility. Fresno isn't bad at all where I live really, it depends which area you live. I like how we have easy access to all of California without driving TOOOOOOoooooOO much.

  37. Throughout my childhood and teaching whether at home/Sakhis/Gurumukh's/Gianis/KATHA's, I heard Guru Nanak Dev Jee's Prakash Utsaav comes in the month of Kathak and on Kathak Puranmaashi, but today is Maghar month Puranmaashi. I am just confused how is the date set? 15 Days + DIWALI? Any day/date or the first Puranmaashi after DIWALI? The setting of DIWALI date is anyway not as per SIKH norms, it is as per when Sri Raam Chandra Jee returned back to Ayodhya, so some days after Dussehra. If such a case, then setting of GURU NANAK DEV JEE's Prakash Purab date relative to DIWALI date, are we going wrong somewhere? Are we loosing our Identity/loosing our important day/dates - such as KATHAK PURANMAASHI as day of GURU NANAK DEV JEE GURUPURAB which should had been on 29th October as per Jantri published on sgpc.net website. Some school of thoughts might say it does not matter the day we celebrate it, but it does matters. BHUL CHUK MAAF.

  39. the term "exhibition art" is misleading. It is swordplay, of sorts. I mean you can kill someone with it, so it must be more than just exhibition art. but it cant be compared with shastarvidiya.

  40. Hmmmmm, does your family have a problem with you being a Sikh? I come from a Punjabi Hindu family myself, and had the advantage that my folks are Punjabi, and so even though they are Hindus they still had deep respect for Sikhi. But parents are parents. My folks were not against me taking Amrit, just wanted me to postpone it. And since I didn’t postpone it, they took a while to get around it. Now after 8 years things are alright, so it does take time. But what exactly is going on thats stopping you from keeping up?
