  3. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Ji There are lot of queries from forum members and anonymous sangat asking for help as per sikhi view point and want to clear the doubts they have. Isn't it better we ask the questions we have directly to Satguru Sri Guru Granth Sahib? They answer to every question ! The vidhi is to have kesi ishnaan and after doing paath of Japji or 5 Chaupai Sahib, do ardas and take Hukam Nama. The Hukam Nama will be your answer and if one has difficulty in interpreting what Satguru ji tells us, we can discuss it on this forum and I am sure there are many Gursikhs which can help them explaining the Hukam Nama Sahib in the best way or at least so that he/she can understand the answer he/she was searching for.

  4. Sikh Sangat, I came across this message written by Sarb Singh of RajoanaTV following an article in The Hindu, one of India's biggest national newspapers. The article in The Hindu draws attention to the phenomenal work RajoanaTV has done over the last year on a plethora of Human Rights issues in Panjab. Please see the article in The Hindu here and Sarb Singh's message below. Gurfateh All, The accolades and support that RajoanaTV has received has been unreal but the real certificate of success is the article below. The third largest national newspaper in India, 'The Hindu' talks about RajoanaTV and how a new breed of soldiers are taking the reigns of the fight for truth, justice and independence. The waving of Kirpans in thin air and shouting 'down down India gorment' by our so called leaders is unfortunately for india dying a death. India's war has changed, the guns have fallen silent but their massacre of Sikhi and Panjab continues in a faceless silent way. We have the blood of Guru Gobind Singh Ji running through our veins, we have changed our strategy also to suit this war. Like the article suggests, they don't know how to deal with this. So called moderate Sikhs, educated and professionals posing legitimate questions, delivering info in a passionate orderly manner is frightening them. Whether this article is a conceited, veiled non direct threat from India letting me know that they are watching and know who I am or they genuinely concede that the sons and daughters of Sikhi and Panjab haven't surrendered is not the issue, the fact that one of their famous journalists has written this article in india's third largest nespaper means we have rattled their cage very hard. This small Project that started 8 months ago has shaken our tyrants and nudged our sleeping lions. However, this was the aim and we are closer to the beginning of our conflict rather than the end. With Maharaj's kirpa, no nation or its army can contain or intimidate us. More importantly, india realises that the generation born post 84 have not forgotten and will continue to fight in the battlefield, albeit in a different way. For this reason, keep watching RajoanaTV and implore others to do the same. What is really important is that despite the fact they have wiped clean the cream of our crop like Sukha Jinda, Gen Labh Singh, Bhai Amrik Singh, Baba Manochal etc, us 'westerners' living outside indiacan still make a difference. We no longer have the likes of Brahma or Tufaan or Heera with us, they were the true soldiers, but using the sills set that we have, we can still as a collective bring india to its knees. www.youtube.com/rajoanatv Gurfateh

  5. Source: http://www.sikhsiyasat.net/2012/01/13/sikhs-win-turban-case-against-france-at-the-united-nations/ Sikhs win turban case against France at the United Nations By Daljeet Singh Published: January 13, 2011 Bobigny, France (12 January, 2012): The UN Human Rights Committee (UNHRC) has concluded that France had violated the religious freedom of 76 year old Ranjit Singh when he was asked to remove his turban for his ID photograph. This was disclosed today at a media conference, in Bobigny (near Paris), by the United Sikhs legal team, who had filed a communication on behalf of Ranjit Singh to the UNHRC in December 2008. The media conference was told that the UNHRC observed that “even if the obligation to remove the turban for the identity photograph might be described as a one-time requirement, it would potentially interfere with the author’s (Ranjit Singh’s) freedom of religion on a continuing basis because he would always appear without his religious head covering in the identity photograph and could therefore be compelled to remove his turban during identity checks.” The Committee said that France had failed to explain how the Sikh turban hindered identification since the wearer’s face would be visible and he would be wearing the turban it at all times, therefore, the regulation constituted a violation of article 18 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), which was entered into force for France on 4 February 1981. You may read the Committees views in full here. The views were adopted at the 102nd session of the Committee’s sitting. “I had faith that truth and justice would prevail and I patiently waited for this day. I pray that France will now fulfil its obligation and grant me a residence card bearing my photo without baring my head,” said Ranjit Singh, who despite his ill-health has had no access to the public health-care system or to social benefits since 2005 because his residence card was refused due to his refusal to remove his turban. “United Sikhs is heartened by the Committee’s observations that France is under an obligation to provide Ranjit Singh with an effective remedy, including a reconsideration of his application for a renewal of his residence permit and a review of the relevant legislative framework and its application in practice. France, the Committee noted, is also under an obligation to take steps to prevent similar violations in the future,” said Mejindarpal Kaur, United Sikhs Legal Director, who addressed the media conference. “We now look to France to fulfil its treaty obligations under International law and its moral duty to ensure that the freedom of religion and belief is upheld for everyone who lives within its territory,” she added. “We are very pleased with the views that the Committee adopted and we welcome France’s compliance with these findings. We also look forward to a similar resolution for Shingara Singh, whose case is still pending before the Committee,” O’Melveny & Myers, a New York law firm engaged by United Sikhs, said in a statement through their attorneys who spoke during a telephone interview. A decision is still awaited for Shingara Singh, whose passport has not been renewed by France because he refused to remove his turban for his ID photograph.

  11. Look who is being quoted by the 3HO follower a so called saint who goes by the name Yogi Bhajan and does puja of idols. IF this is not kalyug, where the wrong are being told as right and the right are being diluded to support the wrong, then we really need to prepare for the future. Mod's and Admin, why are you letting the promotion of a fake Satguru on this site? Kamalroop gets insulted and his ways get unfolded on this site and you close those threads. Now a fake Satguru is being supported here and nothing has been done since the morning, where is the swift actions against those who speak against Satguru Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji Maharaj. I'm a paapi and can't do anything, but you have the control over this and since morning Satguru Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj has been disrespected. It is not like Sikhs to celebrate a dusht of the Khalsa's death and neither is it for the Sikhs to call a dusht of Satguru Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji Maharaj a Saint. People who have been directly affected by him (like 1984 victims) will surely say...........thank God the devil is gone. If for a second someone swore at or insulted Jagjit Singh, then the post would have been deleted and the person warned. Now Satguru is being insulted, but so far no action is being taken by the mods or admin.

  15. As far as i m aware this is discussion forum where we are discussing issues well within the policy and those policy does not dictate or stream line strict tat gurmat discussion (you can try gurmatbibek.com, they truly do that)..However, may be sevadars of this website can make a policy change regarding this and i would have no problem following the new implemented policy..i agree this thread should not have been allowed at first place, but now it did- it be only fair to hear both sides of spectrum (old thought and new thoughts in regards to relationship with namdharis) without dictating flow of discussion..that is the true spirit of khalsa (sant-sipahi)instead of dictating flow of discussion. Nevertheless, please implement new rules or changes...i follow the rules either way i have no issue- No trivial thread allowed, no discussion..its simple really..if thread is put on everyone have right to post their input within policies no matter how unpopular their input may be in the circle.!! I have already provided clarification regarding another similiar topic where someone ask is it okay to talk to dehdhari followers: http://www.sikhsangat.com/index.php?/topic/69659-is-it-okay-to-talk-with-dehdhari-guru-followers/?p=562676

  16. Yes he ought to talk this out with senior Sikhs especially panj pyareh who will advice him very lovingly. However, I also suspect there are possible psychological or psychiatric issues involved here that need to be investigated. You should encourage him to go with you to his doctor and request to be seen by a psychiatrist and psychologist(this is the way you do it in UK) because you need to be referred by your GP. Getting angry and ripping turban, nxt day crying etc can be indicative of a few different disorders I prefer not to mention here. However, these are conditions that can be treated and it is free under the NHS in the UK. Thirdly do ardas to Guru Maharaj as Gurbani teaches us ''eh bhiter te inh ko daroh, aapn nikt bolavoh'.

  17. And does being a Sikh preclude us from learning from mythologies, be they classic or modern? Do tales, myths and stories not have some universal truths contained within them about the human condition and human experience? When Guru Gobind Singh Ji use to regale his warriors with tales of valour from the Mahabharata, did his Singhs use to say "These stories are of no use to us Guru Ji, tell us some stories about only Sikhs and Sikh exploits. We don't want none of that Hindu rubbish distracting us"?

  18. This is where parents go wrong in our community - kids are led into puberty blindfolded. I recently had the dillema of how do I discuss growing up, body changes, birds and bees etc with my oldest. There are some great books out there for parents to go through with their kids. Worth doing, otherwise you get kids coming onto SikhSangat for such answers. Kids can be taught how to be confident in changes that will occur over the next few years and still be guided by Sikhi principles. But really this needs to come from the parents, not strangers or uncle xyz....

  19. N30 SINGH you said ''Great loss to gurmat sangeet vidya, all in all ..great saint..kept it to himself..RIP.!! '' How would you know he was a great saint? Did you read about it, or did God tell you that! Mainstream Sikhs have no respect for those who manipulate Tat Gurmat to set up themselves as Gurus and twist and manipulate Sikh history to suit their own purposes. This man was approached and knew there was an open invitation for him and his followers to come back into the fold of mainstream Sikhi but his stubbornness and pride and desire to continue his sect and to be continued to call a Guru became another missed oppurtunity. A true saint realises that Guru Granth Sahib is our Eternal Guru and that our last Living Guru was Guru Gobind Singh. Anyone who milks Sikhism to set up their own shop and start a new Guru lineage using and subverting Sikhism is guilthy of crime whether dead or alive. Not a saint but a wolf in sheep's clothing!

  24. Gurfateh, My local Gurdwara are seeking to start up classes for Children’s self defence/martial arts and are looking for instructors who will act as role models first i.e. Gursikhs with the martial arts aspect following on. We believe having an amritdhari instructor will give the kids a role model to look up to and aspire to. The intention being that they will learn sikhi principles along with the self confidence not only to look after themselves and others but also the confidence in the sikhi saroop. We are looking for recommendations of such gursikhs in and around the Birmingham area, so Wolverhampton, Walsall etc are all within easy commute. I would appreciate your help and assistance. Bhul chuk marf.

  25. The Supreme Court has issued notice to the Centre, seeking its response within six weeks on a plea for a “separate and distinct” identity for Sikhs in laws relating to succession, adoption, divorce and maintenance. A three-member Bench headed by Chief Justice Altamas Kabir has asked the Law Ministry, Attorney General GE Vahanvati and the Minority Affairs Ministry to give their views on whether Sikhs, Jains and Buddhists could be included in laws meant exclusively for Hindus. According to petitioners Birendra Kaur and Rohit Garg, the Anand Marriage (Amendment) Act 2012, notified in June had solved only the problem of registration of marriages by Sikhs, Jains and Buddhists. Earlier, they had to register their marriages under the Hindu Marriage Act 1955. For other matters relating to succession, adoption, divorce and maintenance, people professing these three faiths still had to resort to the Hindu Succession Act, 1956, the Hindu Adoptions and Maintenance Act, 1956 and the Hindu Minority and Guardianship Act 1956, they contended. The petitioners questioned the wisdom of including Sikhs, Jains and Buddhists under the laws were meant only for the Hindus, if one were to go by the titles. “When all the four religions stand admittedly on an equal footing and are independent of each other, is it right for the legislature” to mention just one religion in the title, they wanted to know. “Making a law applicable to all religions is one thing. Calling all religions by the name of a single religion for the purpose of law is quite another,” they said, contending that this amounted to discrimination. According to them, the word “Hindu” in the titles of these laws should be replaced with either “national” or “Indian.” Further, under the existing laws divorce was allowed on the ground of change of religion by a spouse. However, this was not possible if one of the partners in a Sikh marriage converted either to Hinduism, Jainism or Buddhism. “This is true of married couples of all the four religions. Thus the word ‘Hindu’ is patently discriminatory. For example, if one of the Hindu partners converts to the Parsi religion, divorce is possible. If the partner converts to Buddhism, divorce is not possible,” the petition explained. This problem, arising from “linguistic errors in legislative drafting,” was against the Constitution which had accorded equal status and independent identities to Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism and Jainism, the petitioners said. “Identity is an innate and powerful emotional feeling and is part of the right to life. That the Sikh identity be preserved as a separate and distinct identity while drafting statutes causes no difficulty for the State at all and it requires only a little sensitivity while drafting statutes to maintain this identity within the statute itself,” they averred. The petitioners had approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court with their plea on September 30, 2011, but the court dismissed it three days later, prompting them to move the SC. The SC Bench, which included Justices SS Nijjar and J Chelameswar, passed the order last week when the appeal came up for hearing.

There is not much to say, nothing too great as compared to the stories above, so just gonna give it a try. I wish I could name the people who helped me a great deal in becoming what I am, but since they may not appreciate it, I am gonna refrain from naming them. But you know who you are, and I will always be the dust of your feet!! I was born in a non-Sikh family, Punjabi Brahmin to be specific. Till I was nearly 19, I grew up in the United Arab Emirates, an Islamic country. My entire schooling, including my first year in college was done there. I saw the Hindi movie Maachis on T.V. This movie did the job of providing air to a hidden spark. The various scenes of Gurdwaras, the sound of Gurbani being sung gave me immense inner delight. Towards the end of 1997, when I was only 18 years and a few months, I sensed that some massive change was about to come in my life. I did some research on Sikhism on the internet which I had started using only after I was 18 and half years old. To my utter shock, I found the answers to all my lifelong spiritual queries which were left unanswered by every other religion. I fell in love with Guru Nanak!! Soon after I started doing path of Sri Sukhmani Sahib and fell in love with this Bani as well. I came to USA in August 1998, in the white majority and known to be racist part of the US. Thanks to the internet, I drowned myself into knowledge about Sikhi, Sikh history and everything else related to Sikhi. I would listen to Gurbani and kathas on the internet In the summer of 2003 I joined Sikhsangat.com. Now my Sikhi went on a rampage. I fell deeper and deeper into it. I met new Singhs on the net, talked to some over the telephone. I was sent "In Search of the True Guru", the autobiography of Bhai Rama Singh ji by a Singh from this forum (yeah man you know who you are lol). I never liked AKJ style keertan, but after I saw the live telecast of the November 2003 L.A. Samagam, I got addicted to it. In December 2003 I read Bhai Rama Singh ji's autobiography, and only after reading half of the book i decided to quit shaving and cutting my hair. Another veerjee from India who posts here sometimes urged me a lot to maintain strict Amritvela, and that was the reason I was able to stay strong. As my beard and hair grew, I cut myself off from everyone totally. People would ask my sister, who stayed with me, as to what was going wrong with me. I received absolutely no motivation from my family, or even the few Sikh acquaintances that I knew in my university. As surprising as you may find, the ones to congratulate me on my transformation were the Hindus and Muslims I knew. June 2004 was the twentieth anniversary of Operation Bluestar, the attack on Darbar Sahib. One Singh from California was kind enough to take me with him to Chicago where a Shaheedi Samagam was held. Here, for the first time in my life, I saw and met so many Amritdharis. I stayed with them for almost a week, and never for a moment did I feel that they were people other than my family. This was when I got my name changed as well. We visited a Singh, who was one of my panj pyaare in the very near future. He gifted me with 2 kirpans, 1 small and 1 huge. I put it on here itself. This Singh was breathtakingly chardi kala!! I couldn't stop my tears as I left his place. I couldn't talk. August 2004 arrived. It was exactly an year ago in these days. Gurujee helped me and I found transport. May Waheguru bless the Singh who took pains to arrange for my transport. I was with 2 Sikhs who drove me from Oklahoma to California. We stopped for a night at a gas station in Phoenix, Arizona. I felt very sad, as I wanted to reach El Sobrante by Thursday and spend some time with the sangat, but this was Wednesday night, and we were still in Arizona. But Gurujee's ways are amazing. I was going to give my head to Him, and He couldn't see me sad. At the gas station I saw an American Singh. He was Caucasian. He saw me and had a bright smile on his face. I went upto him, folded my hands and said Vaaheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa Vaaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh, and he responded with Vaaheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa Vaaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh. I told him I was going to take Amrit and that we had got delayed. He assured me that when one goes for a good purpose, God is always with you. These words came as words from Gurujee that He was with me!! I reached Bakersfield and spent a few hours at night at the home of a Singh. He was very kind and dropped me off at the bus station late at night. I took the bus from Bakersfield to Oakland, where 2 amazing Singhs in Bana had come to pick me up. Now I really felt on top of the world. I was hanging out with real Singhs!! We reached El Sobrante Gurdwara, and wow what a Gurdwara it is. Its on a mountain and visible from miles away, so enchantingly beautiful. I met many Sikhs who I befriended on the internet, and Vaheguru I don't know what to say! So much love I got, that I could have exploded. I met the same Singh who gave me the kirpans and was among my panj pyaare. I met some other really amazing Singhs as well. Finally the night came. The night of Saturday, August 21, 2004. Location: El Sobrante Gurdwara in California. Daas was blessed with Amrit. I felt that sense of belonging, that feeling of having a master. This was the day my search was over. My soul sang Anand bhaya meri maaye, SatGuru mai paayaa!! To all those who are born in Sikh families and have not taken Amrit yet, take it from me, it tastes better than any other taste ever created. I was born in a Hindu family, raised in an Islamic country, and studied in the Bible belt region of the U.S. It was Gurujee Himself who held my hand and never let me go astray. A lot happened after I took Amrit. Life is never a bed of roses. I am a kaljugi moorakh and can slip. But my master was always there to remind me that He is there for me even if I don't know about it. My sincere request to you is give yourself upto such a Guru. I don't know what is in store for me tomorrow. But I hope I die a Sikh. May Gurujee save me and all of us from all kurehits, and even more from bajjar kurehits. Sometimes people, out of love, call their beloveds "meri jaan", meaning "my life". It is the highest honor you can give someone you love. You address them as your own life. But just imagine the love Guru Gobind Singh Jee has for His Khalsa, when He says "Khalsa meri jaan ki jaan". He loves us much much more than His life!! I shed tears of happiness whenever I hear or recite these words. No one can love anyone as much as Gurujee loves His Sikhs. So why run after this fake world and its glory and riches when we have the lord of the universe as our true lover, true father, true mother, true friend!! Now hold it! Don't start praising me, because I know very well what I am. All that you have read was written some 4 years ago. Today I am a slacker and trying to get back and firm on the path of Sikhi. I am lazy and want to improve, so if at all you want to respond, don't respond on here, just do an Ardas for me, that I may grow/develop/progress in my Sikhi, and always stay firm and devoted to my Sikhi. That would be the best response, and the one that I am looking forward to.
