  1. Actually there was an edict some years ago from the Akal Takht saying that all marriages should be done in gurdwaras only and one is not allowed to do prakash in hotels, etc, etc. There was too much beadbi going on so they had to put in place these strict rules. I have been involved in our gurdwara for the last 15 years and have attended many marriages both on and away from the gurdwara. I would agree with the akal takht decision in this regard, it is beter to do the lavan in the gurdwara where proper respect can be mantained. You see you have your relatives who come for the marriage and you go out of your way to make sure they are taken care of and respected, but the same usually does not go for the treatment of our Guru. Mostly because we don't believe it's our Guru, it is just a ceremony we all do and afterwars the majority of us drink alcohol, etc, etc which are against the tenets of the religion. You see in my involvement in the gurdwara I have learned the raagis and granthis are usually rascals and they will do anything for money, even sell there soul. There are a handfull who are good but you wil always find one who is willing to do anything for money and hence the saroops are taken anywhere. The age old problem. Nor are our people worried about what they are doing.....

  2. He and his organization have done a great deal of emotional damage to many different people in the US. They came several times to the area in which I grew up to protest the death of our Marines. I grew up close to a base, regardless of our views on current US policy, we respect those left behind. Thankfully, there were plenty of counter protestors to prevent the families from seeing the WBBC. Their work was simply shameful. They say incredibly hurtful things to goad the grieving or downtrodden into attacking. Right in front of the grieving with no shame. They have no respect or civility. Hopefully his family, will be free from his hate now and let the organization end.

  3. Following are some beautiful words of Dhan Guru Baba Nanak Dev Maharaj, in Raag Maajh, conveying us the basic truths of Gurmat : ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ Guramathee Aap Gavaae Naam Dhhiaaeeai गुरमती आपु गवाइ नामु धिआईऐ Through the Guru's Teachings, eliminate ego, by meditating on Naam. ਦੂਜੀ ਕਾਰੈ ਲਗਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਈਐ Dhoojee Kaarai Lag Janam Gavaaeeai दूजी कारै लगि जनमु गवाईऐ Undertaking any other task, they waste their lives in vain. Raag Maajh, Guru Nanak Dev With the first line, Guru Sahiban is telling us that, through Gurmat, we can eliminate our ego, our haume, our bondages, our attachments with this mayavee and perishable creation, which so much we love; to the extent, that we sacrifice our lives, such as .... in the name of my land, my caste, my creed...and thus our lives are wasted away. We run constantly after shadows of this world, by turning away our faces away from where the Light cometh. We are like bats, in the darkness of this kali yug, such as rites, rituals, pilgrimages, fasting, rules and regulations, we open our eyes wide open. But when it comes to Nam Simran, we say, no no, that alone is not sufficient, we must do some more things, in order to be better followers of our path. But then in the next line, in order to remove all our fears, all our brahams, He clearly says: apart from Nam Bhakti, anything we may do, however good it may appear to be, is as good as to waste away one´s life....means it has no value, as per our goal in pursuing our union with the almighty Akal Purukh.

  5. I assume mecsingh is from mexico or other south americas maybe. I also understand how some of them may feel like they are picked on by the masses. But it was a sincere question regarding the facts about sri Guru Granth sahib bir in the pagoda. I am aware about the Akal takht decision mentioned above by samosasingh, but I know this was to target the venues where a hotel ballroom/hall, community hall, function room....etc.. would be hired and BOTH anand karaj and reception would take place in the same place ! On the same grounds we would have Guruji saroop in the morning and then tables and chairs with both liquor and meat being served in the afternoon.buil With these resort/holiday vacations in exotic locations there is probably a little gray area that is being exploited, as in above wedding. I attended a similar wedding some time ago but it was not a sikh wedding...-it was a hindu ceremony, followed by a catholic one later, as the couple were from these backgrounds. I found that these hotel venues have all the preps for different kinds of weddings and they cater for everything that may be needed. They have this outdoor Pagoda/Gazebo style ceremony area that is just reserved for ceremonies of different faiths. I don't think that any liquor/meat is ever served in that place because there are other licensed areas in the vicinity for those purposes. ..BUT...this doesn't stop anyone walking in with a glass of liquor in one hand and something else in the other..Because when the reception is in full swing in some other bar area, then anyone is free to roam the grounds as they wish ! So strictly speaking, this same gazebo place is not kept sacred or reserved in that sense, and like I say..it's a bit of a gray area as the intentions are a little different to what akal takht edict was directed at. Bottom line should be that anand karaj should be in Gurdwara only which means that couples wish to marry in some exotic location may not happen if no gurdwara is there. Samsosingh ji has rightfully mentioned the fact about our sole granthi businessmen, who keep a Sri guru granth sahib ji bir at home and privately offer their services to travel with it as if they are providing a 'locum granthi service'. Until this situation does not get resolved, then these corrupt manmukhs will keep Guruji saroop like a business commodity based on supply and demand. It still goes on in most countries but is kept a little hush hush. I remember a few years ago in UK, there was some business man who wanted his anand karaj in a private location by some caves/scenic park near the cliffs around in Dover somewhere.... and he did make it happen because i came across the two very granthis in northern ireland where they conducted another wedding that i attended. - there was no beadbi or issue here but it was because although a gurdwara was available, they had no granthis at the time available to conduct the anand karaj.

  6. Somebody should finish off the job these Singh's started and we should demand the release of these Singh's. There's no point in talking about being good law abiding citizens when this very law is not serving Sikh interests.

  7. Everyone make mistakes inadvertently or advertently...also just because one has difference of opnion with sant ji or his views..doesnt make him nindakh..we neeed to get over this blind personality worship mentality...anyone who disagrees with my sant is nindak, seen as threat, lets celebrate on his death,..chalo even if he is nindakh its not between us ....its between the nindak/person who made mistakes and mahapursh or dharam raja...sukhmani sahib shed some more light on this, sri guru maharaj writes it to balance so one does not think they are doomed for life: Please contemplate on the following tukh - Nānak sanṯ bẖāvae at the end of every sant nindak couplet in sukhmani sahib as sant dristhi(vision) is one- sam dristhi, he sees bad and good as one, he is above from good and bad..he see all maya big khel ...sees as with one ek/sam dristi vision...!! Nānak sanṯ bẖāvai ṯā o▫e bẖī gaṯ pāhi. ||2|| O Nanak, if it pleases the Saint, even then, he may be saved. ||2||

  8. Khushwant Singh was a typical what is called in Punjabi as Kanjar. A Kanjar is someone who has no conscience, will change his opinion to suit the occasion and turn up at event solely to drink and eat. He is a chumcha and he doesn't care who knows it and is content to be a chumcha all his life. The only notable thing that we can say about the 20th of March 2014 is that a Kanjar died on that day.

  9. First of all khuswant singh was staunchly against golden temple raid by GOI so much so he returned his award to india in protest against operation blue star opreation, and in BBC documentary, his clearly said- bhindranwale fought back like a tiger. Our opinion against people is unbelievable, its so static and rigid and extremely opinionated and does not go hand in hand with opnion changes in different stages in life as everyone see things different and perceive things according to their state..no one seems to care about if he has changed his opinion at his death bed or later stage in his life..we seem to hell bent on bunch of statements one has made in earlier stage in their life and captalize on it and judge one/one's whole 99 years of life based on statements without looking at the possibility of various factors-media negative coverage influence, different stage in life, opinion changes as one grows or matures. We have absolutely no concept of reconciliation or redemption but sikhi does..sikhi beleive one life is spiritual evolution - everyone makes mistakes - Bhullan andhar sabh ko, Abhul Guru Kartar....everyone is capable to grow from mistakes and has right to redeem themselves regardless after paying for actions (good or bad)..hell raja janak emptied the whole hell of sinners as he felt dya towards sinners..everyone is able to reedeem..who are we to judge fully?.... Dharam raja probably thinks of quitting his job as there are many humans who scrambling to act as dharam raja.

  11. Sorry bro I m not perfect and am trying as well to follow the basic fundamentals as well but one cannot ignore those basic fundamentals seems to be totally lost in new sikh world order. I am mean who really celebrates death of another being who may have difference of opnions? even neo nazi group like edl does not follow this type of behaviour... totally opposite of sikh ideals..the fact that not even single puratan actual gursikh have celebrated death of another person who may have disagreements with them... they are always grounded, sehaj, nirmata, chardi-kalah and always ask for sarbat da bhalla.

  12. And so farewell, Kushwant Singh. You are gone. But your legacy remains. The Indians see us as stupid. Silly. And thick. And its all thanks to you. With the 'Santa Banta' Singh characters you created. The Indians loved you. The Sikhs were indifferent. Wonder why that is? You were always one of them. Never one of us. For one that says he loved drinking whisky whilst listening to gurbani. Me thinks your'e having your comeuppance now.

  13. Yes, we are inevitably meant to go back to sachkhand sooner or later- knowing our real saroop, thats why one of reasons guru maharaj says- Man tu jot saroop hai , apna mool painchain, and "Aapna mool pashaano" - realize your true Self and gurbani also gives forewarning below so that one knows the point of this life- aim or goal of one's life so that also one does not take solace in the fact- its inevitably meant to happen so no need to change now- (get rid of false ideas/identification) and change later. 'Bhai Prapat Manukh Dehuria Gobind Milan ki Eh Teri Baria Avar Kaaj Tere Kite N Kam Mil Sadh Sangat Bhaj Keval NAAM' (asa M5) You have obtained this human body Now is your chance to meet the Sustainer. No other deed avails us, But to join the faithful and recite the NAME'

  17. They have, but who listens to Nihungs nowdays anyway? All these preconceived notions of 'jhatka and sukha' being devilish has done quite a lot of harm to the Nihungs. Secondly the Singh-Sabha had this Bani removed from modern Dasam Granth Saroops, because according to them Guru Gobind Singh Ji could not have written it because it praised Krishna's dharmic actions. Today Gurbani is being twisted to insult and demean avatars. In fact avatars are an extrapolation of the divine will and assist us in understanding the perpetual battle between abibek and bibek. Ramblings of a Sikh blogspot on facebook, Sikhreality on facebook, Court Jewels of Guru Gobind Singh Ji and Tisarpanth on facebook probably has more information.

  19. If you've taken Amrit you're forbidden to trim/color your beard. If being comfortable and acceptable is what you're looking for, for a second think of what else you said. You talked about the Shaheeds. Let me ask you, did they not want to lead comfortable lives? They could have easily given up on Sikhi and adopted some other faith forced on them and become acceptable and lead a comfortable life. What exactly makes you think that trimming your beard will make you look neat? That would leave not much difference between you and someone who shaves, because you would need to do that regularly and nature would keep on giving you another opportunity to return to your original form. Most people are just lazy to keep their hair and beard clean and find the easy way out by getting rid of them. Do we ever think about peeling our skin off just to avoid taking a shower daily? No, right? Same way why even dream of trimming your beard? This is a man-made Kaljugi opinion that a trimmed beard looks neat. Besides Sikhs, look around you at any other holy man from another faith. Most of them will have uncut beards (if not unshorn hair as well). As for "why cut nails", this has been discussed loads of times in the past, please run a search. Getting medical treatment (if needed) is important because this human body is a gift from Vaheguru ji. We have to take care of it, and this answers your question as well, we need to not only care for it but honor it as well which is why we don't trim our beard. Who are we to judge the way Vaheguru ji created us? Trimming beard is one's response to the Creator, that "Look, You didn't do a perfect job in making me, now my trimmer will do it". If I am not wrong, trimmed beard Sardars are not classified legally as "Sikhs", but I will need to check on that again. Lastly, as I say in all such posts, its your own life and your personal relation with your Guru. Do whatever you see as your priority. If your priority is Guru Sahib and Sikhi, you wouldn't have asked this question to begin with. If being "neat" in the eyes of the world, becoming "acceptable" to them and living a supposedly "comfortable" life is what you want, then fine, suit yourself and do what you deem as best. No one on this board will prosecute you just because you trimmed your beard, but you WILL be answerable to the One who created you.
