  2. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Jio, you did not specify that this was from your classmate - apologies that I did not know as it was not stated. Your classmate is being quite strange - what is his evidence for asking this question? That is more of an accusation than a question and he should be challenged to present evidence that we as a faith (not individuals) hate any faith. Given that Gurbani includes verses from Hindus and Muslims that we bow down to, that statement would not have a leg to stand on. Nobody is angry - trust me. Not a Brahmgyani either (perfectly knowledgable would be that). Saying including myself does not inherently mean that you did not ask the questions. Nijjar is a surname and carries with it a burden contrary to Sikhi - you could have just as easily picked Eagle or Grasshopper or whatever other descriptive/label to make yourself stand out. Anyways, best of luck.

  3. The SIKH Who Won Silver at Commonwealth Games IGNORED by Indian Media Rajinder Singh Rahelu, whose legs were affected with polio, won the silver medal in the mens Heavyweight Weightlifting category at the Clyde Auditorium. Rahelu lifter a total of 180.5 kg to get the silver. However despite much of Indias success being showcased on prime-time media, the Sikh athletes accomplishment seem to have been left in the shadows. Jaswinder Singh (Sikh Channel) wrote: SALUTE TO THIS BRAVE SIKH RAJINDER SINGH RAHELU ME PARALYSIS HON DE BAAWZOOD APNI TAAQAT DE DUM TE 180.5 KG WAJAN CHUKK KE SILVER MEDAL WIN KITA HAI HEAVYWIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP VICH. 4. Gurbani is clear on this - " Thora sunve thora hee khave" and " alap ahari sulabh see nidra" From my personal experience , meditation is best done on less than half of the food we normally consume. However, the big bellies punjabis have and our lavish langars clearly undermine this simple fact. Share your thoughts

  5. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH A) Why generalize - who says Sikhs don't respect other religions - where is the evidence? You cannot hold the faith accountable for the actions of individuals. Sikhs are not declaring a Jihad on any faith or otherwise mobilizing as a Panth against any religion. B) Why Nijjar, not Singh? If you are Amritdhari, you know that this is a no-no. If you are not, then you know this is the first step to being a Sikh. C) Who says there are not real Gursikhs right now? What evidence is there that all are gone? Not all will wave a flag to attract attention to themselves. D) Who says Sikhs don't meditate on God? There are many Sikhs waking up at Amrit Vela, doing Simran/Nitnem/Keertan/Paath and trying to be good Gursikhs. It seems that you are somehow frustrated at the Sikh Panth's current state. That is very easy to get into. Always remember that Vaheguru created the Khalsa and Vaheguru will always have victory (Fateh). It is the game that the Sikh faith was to undergo and learn from. We, who are blessed to be allied to this faith, live on the earnings and respect of our forefathers and must realize that this is not sustainable. New Baba Deep Singhs and Mai Bhagos must and will arise. We have only to look back 30 years from the post 1984 movement to see that Gursikhs were alive and well and up to the same standards of the Puratan Gursikhs. Focus on yourself and ask yourself these questions and when the answers arise, make improvements to yourself. If you want to exact change, you will have to work on the self. If you wish to do seva, do seva locally per Bhai Jasbir Singh Khanne Vale to raise awareness of Sikhi and conduct Gurmat oriented programs in the local Sangat(s). Sikhsangat posts will not resolve Panthic matters or be the answer to the questions you are looking for at a Panthic level.

  6. I'm not usually a violent person but i would slap any so called Sikhs face who claims Sikhs can marry non-sikhs and its in the religion to do so. These so called lily liberal hippys posing as Sikhs need to be ex-communisted from the faith and put on a blacklist so that all Sikhs can see what their views are and how they are deteredmind to decreasee our demographics by inter-faith weddings and relationships. May waheguru curse them and their families for daring to even suggest interfaith relationship with Sikhs is ok. Sikh females are particular vulnerable to grooming by non-sikh guys if they are brought up in a household where traditional Sikh values are not taught and where the izzat of a woman her self respect is not engrained in her. We need to be doing alot more converting Jewish, Christian and Muslim women into Sikhism because alot of them are following the vile abrahmic ideologies. Hindu women usually assimulate into Sikhi quite nicely thats why there isnt much an issue with marrying hindus however they need to be taught that kids will be raised as Sikhs and idol worship must be stopped if they marry a Sikh guy otherwise their kids become those lilly liberal hippy Sikhs that create the problem with inter-faith relationships we seem to have at present. If a person wants to marry a non-sikh they MUST convert must embrace Sikhism must raise their kids in the Sikh faith otherwise dont even try it or you will get a rejection from gurdwara commitee's. We need more vocal more proactive not decrease it because its only with being strong on these issues does our faith prosper when we go all lilly liberal then our community is the loosers and other damaging ideologies and sly faith communities are the winners in these outcomes.

  8. At the beginning of last year (2012), the Sikh Riot Awareness Facebook group posted this video of a Muslim man marrying a Sikh woman in a Gurdwara: https://www.facebook.com/Global.Sikh.Awareness/posts/347505678617592 As you can tell by the comments, most people were not pleased and were angry that this was allowed to take place. (click "view previous comments and go up to the very top). There were even girls that said it was wrong and shouldn't have happened, which surprised me, usually I only hear of men speaking out against this kind of stuff, but a lot of Sikh females were displeased as well. Someone showed me another Muslim-Sikh marriage video yesterday, this also took place in a Gurdwara. The difference? This time, the girl was Muslim and the guy was Sikh (mona). Here it is: I am just interested in seeing if there is as much outrage over this happening as there was over the last one. Ironically, the Muslim girl does a better matha thek than the Sikh girl lol. For the first video, imagine if the girl ran away with the Muslim, what would people say then? They would bash him for not even having the decency to enter a Gurdwara and respect the girl's families wishes. Say what you want, at least he had enough respect to bow down in front of Guru Ji, he might not practice Sikhi, but it does show he is open-minded, and since they got married in a Gurdwara, I doubt he made her convert to Islam. What is the difference between marrying a Muslim and a guy who is only Sikh-by-name? In neither case would that Sikh girl raise her children to practice Sikhi, so does it really make a difference? If a non-practicing member of our community, who probably knows nothing about the religion, doesn't even know how to matha thek properly, wants to marry out, what's the big deal? For the second video, again, is there any outrage? The Sikh guy is obviously not practicing, so does it make a difference if his wife is a Muslim? If he had married a Sikh girl, chances are she herself wouldn't be practicing either, so in neither case would he produce practicing Sikh children. Thoughts?

  10. By no means is this post intended to hurt the patriotism of these respective nations, but I just cannot help myself and criticize their education system. In India, under 'the great reformer', BJP, a new educational booklet has been published. The Tejomay Bharat aims to teach: STEM CELL RESEARCH In case you didn’t know this, Stem Cell Research, for example, dates back to the Mahabharat and the Vedic times. The text book explains, by citing the text of the mythological epic-poem which Hindus consider gospel: “… Kunti had a bright son like the sun itself. When Gandhari, who had not been able to conceive for two years, learnt of this, she underwent an abortion. From her womb a huge mass of flesh came out. (Rishi - sage) Dwaipayan Vyas was called. He observed this hard mass of flesh and then he preserved it in a cold tank with specific medicines. He then divided the mass of flesh into 100 parts and kept them separately in 100 tanks full of ghee for two years. After two years, 100 Kauravas were born of it ... This was found in India thousands of years ago.” [Page 92-93, Tejomay Bharat] TELEVISION Of course … it was invented by - er - Hindus - during the Mahabharat times. “Indian rishis using their yog vidya would attain divya drishti. There is no doubt that the invention of television goes back to this… In Mahabharata, Sanjaya sitting inside a palace in Hastinapur and using his divya shakti would give a live telecast of the battle of Mahabharata… to the blind Dhritarashtra”. [Page 64] THE AUTOMOBILE “What we know today as the motorcar existed during the Vedic period. It was called anashva rath. Usually a rath (chariot) is pulled by horses but an anashva rath means the one that runs without horses or yantra-rath, what is today a motorcar. The Rig Veda refers to this…” [Page 60] The 125-page book, Tejomay Bharat, that these passages are excerpted from was recently mandated as supplementary reading by the Gujarat government for all government primary and secondary schools. Published by the Gujarat State School Textbook Board(GSSTB), the book seeks to teach children “facts” about history, science, geography, religion and other “basics”. Tejomay Bharat (literally, Shining India) is to be distributed along with eight books written by Dina Nath Batra, a member of the national executive of Vidya Bharati (Indian Education), the educational wing of the RSS, which is the ideological base of the current government and ruling party. Batra’s books, translated into Gujarati and published by the GSSTB, have also been mandated as supplementary reading by the state government. Each of these books carries a customised message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi (then chief minister), while Batra’s books praise him and the GSSTB. Tejomay Bharat carries a message from Modi praising the GSSTB for republishing the book. The book has chapters such as Adhyatmik Bharat (spiritual India), Akhand Bharat (undivided India), Vigyanmay Bharat (scientific India), and Samarth Bharat (competent India). The book’s content advisor is Harshad Shah, vice-chancellor ofChildrens’ University in Gandhinagar who was Gujarat chairman of Vidya Bharti till 2006. The review committee includes Ruta Parmar and Rekha Chudasama, both associated with Vidya Bharati. Vice-chancellor Shah explains: “Tejomay Bharat gives an insight to students about our rich culture, heritage, spiritualism and patriotism. The language has been kept simple, which is apt for students. These are to be given free of cost to all schools, while 5,000 copies priced at Rs 73 ($1.40) have been prepared for those other than students.” Asked how schools would reconcile the “facts” of Tejomay Bharat with the NCERT syllabus, the Deputy Commissioner, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Ahmedabad region, P Dev Kumar, said, “Being a government servant, I am here to follow and implement government policies. Though we have not been told of any change in the NCERT curriculum for this academic session, if there is any for the next year, we have to wait and watch.” Tejomay Bharat also objects to the country being called India. “We should not demean ourselves by calling our beloved Bharatbhoomi by the shudra (low-caste) name ‘India’. What right had the British to change the name of this country?… We should not fall for this conspiracy and forget the soul of our country [Page 53].” There’s more. ON BIRTHDAYS “Birthdays should be celebrated by shunning the western culture of blowing candles. Instead, we should follow a purely Indian culture by wearing swadeshi clothes, doing a havan and praying to ishtadev (preferred deity), reciting mantras such as Gayatri mantra, distributing new clothes to the needy, feeding cows, distributing prasad and winding up the day by playing songs produced by Vidya Bharati.” [Page 59] LANGUAGE POLICY “The current language policy allows for the domination of English language which results in Sanskrit being sidelined. By not learning Sanskrit, students will be deprived of the vast knowledge that our epics have on our culture.” “The mother tongue should be the first language with 20 per cent aside for Sanskrit, Hindi should be the second language … and Sanskrit or any other foreign language should be the third language.” [shikshan nu Bhartiyakaran (Indianisation of Education), Chapter on “National Unity and Education“] NATIONAL HOLIDAYS These should include August 14, Pakistan’s Independence Day, which should be celebrated as “Akhand Bharat Smriti Divas”. Because “Undivided India is the truth, divided India is a lie. Division of India is unnatural and it can be united again… MAP OF INDIA Drawing a map of India? Make sure you include Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Myanmar. These are part of undivided India or “Akhand Bharat”. [Page 49] * * * * * If the name Dina Nath Batra, the author of these brilliant text books, rings a bell, there’s a reason why. Batra’s civil suit earlier this year had led to the pulping of American scholar Wendy Doniger’s book on Hinduism. Batra asked India’s Supreme Court to ban the book. Penguin, the publisher, caved in and withdrew the book, promising to destroy all of the copies left in stock. (Courtesy of the Times of India). Then we have the Pasthuns in Pakistan attempting to reintegrate themselves in the Afghani psyche and claiming they have been the perpetual victors in any conflict which they have engaged in. http://historyofpashtuns.blogspot.com/2014/07/afghan-sikh-wars.html?m=1 (the bright spark beyond this posted this on a thread in this forum). Myths and facts with the facts hidden. http://www.sikhsangat.com/index.php?/topic/75089-battle-of-saragarhi-myths-and-facts/ Indian battles with Pakistan: Who won Kargill? In Pakistan you will most likely be told Pakistan. It may surprise you that under Maharajah Ranjit Singh 68-72 Bungas (Twarikh-E-Amritsar) ringed Darbar Sahib teaching an unbiased curriculum in philosophy, Gurmat, Vedanta, Islamic philosophy etc. Islamic schools in Batala and Sialkot, under the patronage of Ranjit Singh, ran famed courses which were attended by students from Arabia, Persia etc. Ironically that, and the colonial period, is probably the last time in sub-continental history that education remained free of religious bigotry, and political radicalism.

  12. This is a question for all the sikhs including myself are we really sikhs or just known to be sikhs. How is our relation going on with god? Do we meditate on GOD? OR WE are stuck in getting a different nation? Does every sikh understands Gurbani? Why do sikhs don't respect other religions? Whereas GURU sahib respected every religion. 15. The recent division of SGPC is all due to Badal Parivar treating SGPC as family property. While congress is not blameless because it is like the hungry mad dog(halka kuttaaa) always waiting to pounce on it's prey on any sign of weakness, but Badal Parivar is the one that put SGPC in the position that it is today because Badal is the source of our weak state today. If Badal Parivar want to save SGPC, they need to stop controlling SGPC. Give SGPC and Akal Takht to Panthic organisations to run. In my opinion, Badal parivar should also step down and give Akali Dal back to the Panth so this once great Sikh party can again work for Panthic interests instead of Badal's financial and political interests. If still Badal Parivar does not step down, then it's political fate will be similar to how Gandhi Parivar lost the recent elections in India or worst it might end up same as Gaddafi and his family who met their doom when the entire Jantaa rose up in rebellion.

  21. AAP came out of nowhere and made a big impact because it was able to gain the support of the Panthic vote by choosing candidates that were professionals and not tainted by corruption and the dirty politics of the Akali-BJP-Congress parties. What the Panthic leaders or those who wish to serve the Panth is to join this party and turn it into a Punjab centric party. AAP got nowhere in the rest of India apart from the Delhi Assembly elections. In Delhi they lost momentum in the Lok Sabha elections. The Panthic votebank has been waiting for a party that can truly take on the Akalis and the Congress and can seriously become a contender for forming the next government in Punjab. Simranjeet Singh Mann was a hope once but he destroyed his chances by aligning himself with the same Akali leaders who had been rejected by the people in 1989. AAP has kept it's chances of keeping the Panthic vote by putting forward Professor Baljinder Kaur whose chacha was a Babbar Khalsa kharkoo who was martyred in the 90s as a candidate from the Talwandi Sabo assembly byelection this month. I would urge anyone who has relatives in the constituency to do their but and make sure that they vote for her and let us send those whose families sacrificed for the Panth into power and not those who have lost no opportunity to betray the Panth.

  22. Dear Guest, First of all, we do not know your age, not because of anything, but just to know if you are a minor, and then neither we know, how has been your father´s relation with you up to now.. But from your words, it seems, it has not been so bad, it is only after you have seen this your father´s some unkown behaviour to you, that you feel so bad. You see, we are all human beings, and so we do have more or less imperfections. In some cases, parents are good, and the behaviour of their children is not, and we know, we all have been children....so many times when we are with our friends, and we do shameful things which we may dare not in front of our parents. Parents mostly have to face the misbehaviour of their children. But in some lesser cases, it is the opposite that happens. But anyhow, maybe during their (parents) youth or at a younger age, they had some vices or let us say some abnormal behaviour, which can be slight or accute, it all depends on personal and individual circumstances, which even aftter marriage and having children, have not been erradicated, but have been hidden to an extent; which sooner or later may come on the surface..... They are children, whose fathers are thieves or thugs...and the children do not know . But the fact is, we do get shocked, and say why me or why my father? We are absolutely sorry to know about this your current situation; but it requires to be handeled with care, otherwise it may bring more harmful and unpleasant moments. It is time for you to do the job of and adult and as a friend of your father. Talk to him, tell him this what you have discovered. Tell him that you never ever thought this about his shameful behaviour, and you do not like him to continue with this or any other thing as such if he is hiding it still. He has erred, but he can rectify also, and he has the chance to do so and the family´s support for it. This should be suffice for him, to feel ashamed, and leave behind any misdeeds, A father can undergo anything but can not fall in the eyes of his children. So I think, this should be enough punishment for him. Then, though you are free to do what you like, but personally this type of matters, should be solved within the family, and not publicized...because after all he is your father. I myself I am a father , of a grown uo child. And so I am telling from my both personal views, first if I had been a son, what I would have done with my father; and secondly, if I had been in your father´s place, how I would have liked my children to handle the situation and refer it to me .... Really I am very sorry for your painful condition, but you have my sympathy. Wishing you all the best. If there is any further help required, please lt us know, there are quite a handful of mature brothers and sisters on this Sikh Sangat web. Sat Sree Akal.
