Black Sikhs.

Their hair is diferent. Why are asians eyes alittle different?? Why is my skin a little lighter than yours arent we all humans yada yada??????

True, but i'm pretty sure hair is the same for everyone. The only thing that really differentiates hair is curliness or straightness and that, i'm pretty sure, is genetic.

Forgive me, but I don't understand how one race would have a harder time brushing their hair than another one. If we're all humans, then shouldn't everyone's hair be manageable? True, the longer the hair the harder it is to manage, but hair is hair and if u make an effort, you should be able to brush it.

Not every race has the same characteristics as one another. We all have different ways of doing things and have diferent qualities

My friend who is a black Sikh has hair like me in long dreadlocks. If I shaved my head bald I could comb my hair as per the norm but right now is an impossiblity. I do know that the longer their hair the more unmanagable it gets. When people have long braids mean they have long hair which in order to braid it must be combed seperately. Look at black women, they have straight combed hair its just if you want to take care of it, but thats why most black guys shave their heads. Thats why barber shops and beauty salons are associated with black people. It might be a few more minutes work to comb but it is possible.

Micheal Singh my friend that I was talking about to be more specific. I posted a pic of a black guy that has long uncut hair under a turban.

Respexx.. lets all unite, colour makes no difference in sikhi. Actually I have a friend that comes to sangat as well, from ottawa. He wasn't growing his hair cuz it wuld grow into an afro but after guru jee explained stuff to him, he got the realization that not growing his hair cuz of that was an excuse and he has to get past that, so now he started growing his hair, no matter how much longer it takes him to comb his hair. p.s he's half black so has many of the characteristics. just thought i'd share a success story to inspire some people. lol that would be like combing my hair without oil cept they wud have oil .. and my hair isnt that hard just takes a lil longer.. but recently i have been leaving out the oil and its not too bad

My name is Gurjot Singh and although I look like a native Pujab Sikh, I am a Sikh of Afro-american lineage. I have found that there are a few Indo-aryan customs that I have had to omit in order to maintain my 5 K's. One of them is how I maintain my Kesh. I keep my hair in dreds. I use the kanga to comb or brush my beard but my fingers and a brush is all I use on my head hair. As my dreds have become quite long, thick and heavy and to maintain cleanliness I have to tighten the dreads at the roots, I use a more Afro-american (woolen) wrap for my hair much like turbans worn by Sikhs and Blacks in West Africa. My hair is wraped in a spiral circle around the top of my head. This way I can exercise and wash the hair daily which is not a normal Afro-american practice. This is preferred to the cotton wrap that I usually only use for very special occasions.

Punjab Sikhs began my path as a Sikh and I am beholden to them as I have gone through alot of growth to learn to be myself and also be as true to the marvolous culture that introduced me to the Guru. This little change as well as some others have still not affected my love for the sikh practices that now are simply who I am more than what faith I belong to. Perhaps that is the way for anyone who loves the path that our Guru's have built for us and the Sri Guru Granth Sahib has guided us to follow.
