What do people think will be done by Channel 4 or Offcom? Do you reckon there'll be another Big Brother job? What would Sikhs like?..apology, another unbiased programme?? any ideas?

Some public statement saying that Sikhs were misportrayed would be a good start. This should be on the actual channel itself at a prime time slot.

Then perhaps a programmed showing things in a more balanced perspective would be nice (but probably unlikely).

We ALL should make intelligent complaints to Ofcom and Channel 4. Let them know that we as a COMMUNITY are unhappy about this. If only a few people complain, they will feel that they are a fringe group and possibly not give any serious consideration to the matter. So get behind it folks.

i've complained. Does anyone think that if they dont do nething we should tell the press? Because stuff like this always gets brushed under the rug... none of the representin elders ever say nethin...maybe an educated sikh should say something this time..afterall it was because of misrepresentation in the 1st place that partition was allowed to happen

I just think that allowing an unchallenged claim within the documentary that the Sikhs carried the first massacre of Muslims and first mass rape of Muslim women was pretty unwise and tactless. The depiction of an antagonistic and aggressive Sikh leader and the portrayal of the kirpan, in one or 2 scenes, seemed a bit deliberate and intentional to me.

OK, this documentary has been made now, but documentary makers should invite and show responses from all perspectives. Partcularly so on sensitive volitile topics like religious violence and the causes.

to allow a speaker on the show to say something like the following ..

"there is a saying in our country (india) that the muslims know when a raincloud is coming while it is far away, the hindus know a raincloud is coming once it is above them, the sikhs know a raincloud is coming once it has rained and gone past them"

i.e. sikhs are stupid.

how can such a racial comment regarding an entire community be allowed on television?! what if a white man was to say from the UK, "in my country there is a saying that all black people are stupid and are criminals".

its a disgrace for this show to be called a fair representation of history of the end of the british empire in india. as brother has said what of the countless kurbania given to free india by the sikhs?? to simply say that they were hot headed and proud etc etc is ignoring why the sikhs never wanted india to be split in the first place! they knew they would get screwed in the partition especially after so many had given so much!!

channel 4 wont make another show, as this probably cost millions, and it wont make big brother headlines cus our people only get angry when one of their beloved bollywood goddess filmstars gets called an indian (hmm i thought she was an indian)!

lol its quite the opposite

muslims worship a 1/7 peice of a shiv ling, which dropped from the sky in mecca, w/o knowing what it is they kiss it and den claim that they are "clean"

hindus worship shiv lings knowingly and gets into stuff like karmasutra

sikhs are clever enough to be above all these.

I have a feeling some communities are in denial lol

The quote that was said in the documentary:

'The Hindus see the strom before it comes, the Muslim sees it when it comes, the Sikhs see it after it has come and gone'

It's b****y true!!! the Sikhs see it after it has come and gone

Why are we moaning for all the time? look back at how many times Sikhism has been bashed and ignored, for example the Besti drama play etc..

Why don't Sikhs do something like make these programs yourselfs or work with the media people, put money to causes like this than building Gurdwaras....

How many times are we gonna get cussed? then we moan about it after, when it's done... Why not do something first...

This is statement many Sikhs also use to describe being unprepared for 1947. In fact it can be used for the present day, look at the SSnews with all the drug taking, the youth becoming cleanshaven, Sikhi is rapid decline, but we are unable to do anything about it.

Complain to Channel 4 , but also suggest they make a programme about Sikhs with Sikhs doing the talking, lets not wait for next insulting programme.
