6 quit SAD(A) over Bittu's removal

Our Correspondent

Amritsar, August 27

Terming the expulsion of Daljit Singh Bittu from SAD (Amritsar) as unfortunate, the Khalsa Action Committee (KAC) came down heavily on Simranjit Singh Mann for going overboard to criticise and question the working of the KAC.

In a press note issued here today, the KAC also announced that its members, under the leadership of Bhai Daljit Singh Bittu, would reach Ambala to witness court proceedings on August 31, the day Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was slated to appear in the CBI court.

Senior members of the KAC, Bhai Mohkam Singh, Karnail Singh Panjoli, Kanwar Pal Singh, Harinder Singh Khalsa and D S Gill, criticised Mann for toeing the line of jathedar Akal Takht Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti and SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar.

Meanwhile, six members of SAD (A), having allegiance to Daljit Singh Bittu, today resigned from the party. Senior vice-president Balwinder Singh Chhabbal, Rajwinder Singh Raju, general secretary, Youth Wingh SAD (A), Jarnek Singh Neka, Manmohan Singh Jammu, Ajit Singh Dhillon and Piyara Singh Bhullar were among those who resigned from the party. They said if Mann wanted to remove Bittu from the post, he should have called the meeting of the political affairs committee of the party in this regard.

Amongst the 21 Sikhs that were arrested for the beant statue incident was Bhai Gopala who was the president of Sikh Youth Federation(Bhindrawala) at that time .

But when the same organisation organised a Khalsa March at Amritsar on 25 August,2007:

http://www.sikhsiyasat.com/misc/march_by_bf260807.html

Mann not only boycotted this march but went further to expell all the SAD(Amritsar) leaders who participated in that march .

Similarly the convenor of Khalsa Action Committee Mokham Singh was present to greet Mann when he was released from jail .And what did KAC get for showing solidarity with Mann ?The title of "traitors of Sikhs".

Bhai Gopala and Mokham Singh showed solidarity with Mann in the larger interest of the Sikh panth but in a way Mann betrayed both of them at the behest of his 3-4 "spoons".

Further Mann and his "spoons" got emboldened to take on Bittu soon after the success of Sunam rally thinking the rally was in direct support of only Mann. Now whether the Sunam rally was to show solidarity with Mann alone or with Mann and Bittu(United SAD,Amritsar)or to show solidarity with shaheed Bhai Kamaljeet Singh and against derawaad, only time will tell .

Does Mann wish to convey that everyone should support him and in return he will support no one ?

But one thing is clear Mann has hit his leg with his own axe which is very unfortunate for panthic unity .

On the other hand ,the way Bittu delivered the speech at Sunam rally

http://www.sikhsiyasat.com/spc/bds_at_sunam220807.html

shows he has become more confident after his stint in jail recently .

Dear Sadh Sangat Ji,

Waheguru Ji Ki Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

I have a lot of respect for Simranjit Singh Mann but be concerned about various statements for the last few weeks while he was in jail and his latest ill conceived outburst against Bhai Daljit Singh Bittu.

Sardar Mann was given the highest mandate by Sikh masses and was considered by Sikhs as the natural heir to Baba Jarnail Singh Bhinderanwale because of his sacrifice. However he has frittered away that goodwill and caused considerable damage to the Sikh cause by his lack of mature leadership, shifting stand on issues relevant to Sikh freedom and his inconsistent and ill timed statements on irrelevant/minor issues instead of focusing on the bigger picture and the future of Sikh nation.

The freedom movement under his leadership is only left with occasional empty statements instead of solid action based program. Politically also he has failed to form a powerful third front in Punjab where Sikhs desirous of Sovereignty can come under one umbrella.

The suspension of Bhai Daljit Singh on minor misunderstandings and misinformation by his under links is very unfortunate. I will request him to reconsider his decision in the larger interest of Panth and rise above his personal ego and petty political considerations. In fact it is time for him to consider his retirement and hand over the baton to younger and dynamic leadership.

Punjab radical Sikh youth challenges leadership of Mann

GURPREET SINGH MEHAK

Tuesday, 28 August 2007

FATEHGARH SAHIB: The radical Sikh youth have thrown a major challenge to the leadership of Shiromani Akali Dal(Amritsar) president Simranjit Singh Mann who is at receiving end after the expulsion of party's senior vice president Daljit Singh Bittu and his supporters.Mann has also set goal of separate Sikh state for his party.

SAD(Amritsar) faced split following Bittu, a former Sikh militant and about a dozen supporters of him including one SGPC member were on Monday thrown out of the party for allegedly "disobeying" the party discipline.

Bittu who is among the front liner Khalistan protagonists on Tuesday described Mann a dictator and directionless leader. He has announced to convene delegate session of party in September. He said that Mann was running one man show and harming the interests of Sikhs.

Yet in another setback to Mann two SGPC members and working committee members Ravinder

Singh Khalsa, Bibi Surinder Kaur, and other working committee member Palwinder Singh Talwara, District Fatehgarh Sahib SAD (A) president Jaswant Singh Rajindergarh and 26 other office bearers resigned from their posts to lodge their protest over the expulsion of Daljit Bittu from party.

With the resignation of two SGPC members on Tuesday, now Mann has remained with two members of his party in the SGPC. He had already expelled SGPC member from Joga Harcharan Singh Burjhari along with Bittu. There were total seven members of Mann in SGPC in this term but two members had already switched their loyalties to Parkash Singh Badal group.

In a letter to Mann, which was addressed to him by the former SGPC member and district Fatehgarh Sahib unit president Jaswant Singh Rajindergarh mentioned that Mann did not take a right step by expelling Bittu. He said that they were hurt after reading the news about expulsion of Bittu from the party, as it will weaken the party. He said that Mann should not take this decision by his dictatorship and should had taken the decision after thoroughly considering the decision.

He alleged that Mann's party office is information centre of government agencies. He alleged that 90 per cent party workers often complained Mann in this regard but he has never taken any action in this regard. He said that Sikhs could fulfill their mission of separate state by initiating struggle jointly.

Other 29 members resignation was sent to Mann jointly but signature of only 14 were on the resignation letter and it was mentioned on resignation letter that the consent on other 15 office bearers were taken on phone.

Bittu while talking to The Pioneer said that Mann had no right to expel him. He said that Shiromani Akali Dal(Amritsar) was founded with the blood of Sikhs youth and they are the real heirs. He said that Mann was running the party at his whims and fancies which is not tolerable to Sikhs linked to their ideology.

Meanwhile, the Sikh Federation (UK) – recognised as one of the leading political Sikh organisations abroad - has strongly condemned Simranjit Singh Mann for the stance he has taken against the Khalsa Action Committee and his action to expel Daljit Singh Bittu and 13 others.

Bhai Amrik Singh, Chair of the Sikh Federation (UK) said, ‘Those with Panthic interests at heart at this critical time are united in their support for the Khalsa Action Committee and their actions against the Sirsa Dera chief.’

‘We have been urging Daljit Singh Bittu and his associates to show restraint and maintain unity in SAD (Amritsar). However, Simranjit Singh Mann and a handful around him have shown they are only interested in maintaining their personal power in the party and at any cost.’

i think with this recent split in akali dal amritsar, we may set a record for the number of factions of a single party.

if we keep seeing these splits in teh akali dal, there may be more akali dals in punjab than the number of deras.

akali dal (badal)

akali dal(longowaal)

akali dal(amritsar)

akali dal (1920)

sarb hind shiromani akali dal

akali dal(panthic)

akali dal(delhi)

akali dal (democratic)

etc etc etc

maybe the akali dals are deras? :D

man who knows anymore, i've lost count.

i wanna make my own akali dal called akali dal (sikhsangat.com)

god help us.

Sikhs Deplore Simranjit's Action

Written by Baljeet Sahi

Thursday, August 30, 2007

Los Angeles, CA: The Sikh community of California is shaken by the removal of Bhai Daljit Singh Bittu from the post of vice president of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) on August 26th, 2007 by the party president Sardar Simranjit Singh Mann. Bhai Daljit Singh Bittu, after his release from prison on unrelated charges, had joined the SAD (A) on the request of Sardar Simranjit Singh Mann. He was not only actively involved with the party activities but was also holding the post of convener of the Khalsa Action Committee (KAC) which is currently dealing with the situation of Dera Sacha Sauda and its leader Gurmeet Ram Rahim. The KAC condemned Mann's action and issued a statement calling it as "unfortunate and harsh".

In a very short time Bhai Daljit Singh Bittu, with his abilities to talk straight and a hands-on approach, has positioned himself as a Sikh political leader of substance amidst the dirty Punjab politics. His rising popularity amid assault on Sikhs and Sikhism to annihilate them from Punjab was seen too polarizing for a few politicians including Sardar Simranjit Singh Mann. Speaking in anonymity members of Coalition of Gurudwaras of California and Sikhs for preservation of Sikhism and Sikh Heritage said "Simranjit's family relationship with ex-chief minister Captain Amrinder Singh and fear of Bhai Daljit Singh Bittu becoming more popular, on the grounds of morality and ethics, than perhaps his own son that he had to take such an action".

"There is historical proof that Maharaja of Patiala and his family have always played a role in keeping Sikhs divided rather than united" they said. The members were perturbed at removal of Bhai Daljit Singh Bittu and endorsed the criticism of such action by senior members of KAC and were delighted that six members of SAD (A) had resigned from the party. Commenting on the issue of Dera Sacha Sauda the members said "Sikhs who truly feel the pain of Khalsa realize that leaders like Bhai Daljit Singh Bittu are needed in thousands to keep afloat the sanctity of Sikhism".
