Was surprised to find the following article in The Sun, a daily UK tabloid, this morning. ohmy.gif

SIKH TERROR CELL

Britain has been warned of a new terror threat from Sikh extremists linked with al-Qaeda. Experts in the US and India have told authorities they are watching a handful of British-based Sikhs who they say have trained at terror camps in Pakistan which have connections to Islamic extremists.

They tell tonight's File on Four on Radio Four that they fear the radicals may be planning terrorist acts in their fight for an independent Sikh homeland.

FYI:

BBC Radio 4 is a UK national radio station.

BBC Radio 4

Sikh extremism: Tuesday 26 February 2008, 2000 GMT, repeated Sunday 2 March 2008, 1700 GMT.

With attention focussed on Islamist extremism, Armadeep Bassey asks whether the authorities are doing enough to counter the activities of UK-based Sikh groups supporting the violent campaign for an independent homeland in the Punjab. Producer: David Lewis. Editor: David Ross.

What kind of b***ocks is this?!?!!

I think we need to find out if there is any truth behind this (which I doubt) but it certainly warrants some insight.

If there is NO link, then we should all be up in arms at these defamatory remarks....

(PS..for those who don't know The Sun...it's a RUBBISH piece of tabloid media...infamous for the top-less naked page-3 girls...full of leud and disgusting images...)

Where is violent campaign?!?!

Anyone with some insight into these statements, please post!!!!

Armadeep Bassey is a a sensationalist. He's written a number of damning articles blowing Sikh situations out of proportion, from Behzti to Beadbi campaigns. At the end of the day, he’s an Asian journalist trying to make a name for himself by sensationalizing his Asian background, this is typical for most Asian journalists in western media. I mean how many people are going to want to read an article on how beautiful Sikhi is?

I wouldn’t be surprised if some little wannabe kharkoos from brum have given him some “vaday gaap” to play with.

It’s almost laughable that this thick journalist writes a small paragraph suggesting that present day Khalistan supporters even possess the organization skills or intelligence of carrying out some kind of terriorist attack. I mean who’s really got the time in between knocking each others turbans off during those great Gurdwara committee election times.

It's quite disturbing though if it's made it to Radio 4 - a serious news and discussion-based radio station. Nevertheless, it's probably just Indian Government propoganda! The awareness amongst Sikh youth of the brutality and human rights abuses of the Indian Government has never been higher, so what better for the Indian Government to brand Sikhs as terrorists? This is their old trick!

BBC News, UK - 1 hour ago

Sikh separatists are receiving vital funding from the UK which could support renewed violence, police in India have told the BBC's File On 4 programme.

Chief of the Punjab Police, NPS Aulakh, said money was reaching militants from British-based supporters via informal funding channels in the Sikh community.

He said money was being used to attract young people to militant groups.

The authorities fear the resumption of a violent militant campaign from the 1980s and 90s.

Police in the Punjab say they are gathering intelligence that extremist groups pushing for an independent Sikh homeland called Khalistan are getting important donations from UK Sikh supporters.

"We have had some intelligence and from interrogations that some of the people in Britain were involved in funding activities of terror," NPS Aulakh said.

He said the funding was being sent through informal channels in the Sikh community.

"Definitely some of the money was being used to fund militant activities in the Punjab," he said.

He added: "It is very important because that is the way of attracting more and more youth into the fold of militancy - given them money for carrying out militant activities.

"If the funds are dried out, I think militancy can be checked."

'Terror tactics'

Sunny Hudal, founder of the think tank New Generation said the UK's Sikh community had to help curb UK-based extremists and their cash aid for terror tactics.

"The vast majority of Sikhs want nothing to do with them but they must take some of the blame," he said.

"Not enough is being done to root them out," he added.

Some members of the Sikh community told File On 4 they fear the extremists could use Sikh temples the way radical Muslim cleric Abu Hamza radicalised the Finsbury Park Mosque in London.
