Bbc Radio 4's Smear Campaign On Sikhs

As already highlighted by "asmlondon" and "THE WARRIOR". There's not much point communicating your views on this forum as it would be more beneficial if a structured complaint is sent to the BBC and Offcom.

Points to ponder over about already mentioned by the above posters.

Why do we never read about the likes of Amradeep Bassey and the other "ambitious" Asian journalists report on the niceties of their ancestral cultural. Very rarely are they commissioned by the pro Western media to express the postivity of Asian cultures, it’s always home in on the honour killings, the threat to terrorism, forced marriages, unhappy Asians.

The IRA has been responsible for more terrorist attacks on British soil, more than any other terrorist organisation however you don’t see contempt and hatred towards White Catholics. Deep down this is really to do with prejudices and racism and we could even go as far as to say jealousies towards an imigrant group who has done rather well socially and economically whilst still maintaining their distinct roots.

Why did Bassey intentionally choose a less articulate spokesperson like Avtar S Sangera, was he purposely made to speak in his broken English as a pose to Punjabi. Interestingly Bassey didn’t embarrass Himmat Sohi by asking him to speak in English? Did Mr Bassey interview some of the more strong articulate voices from the British Sikh Community such as Sikh Federation UK and choose to drop these as they didn’t support the view he wanted to portray in this documentary?

BBC Radio 4 and Amradeep Bassey stand accused of creating an imaginary threat. The sensationalized allegations are completely unsubstantiated. Allegations as serious as those presented are simply speculation and Bassey should produce his evidence linking his preposterous claims of Al Qeeda training camps training young British Sikhs. If it is all based on claims from the “Institute of Conflict Management in Delhi” which is headed my the notorious KPS Gill, then Bassey must be more naive or more mallicious then we think.

COMPLIANT TO OFCOM

On the 26th of Feb 2008 BBC RADIO 4 Broadcast File on 4 at 8pm.The programme was full of slander and complete lies against the Sikh Community, the reporter and producers made claims such as Sikhs have joined hands with Al Qaeda,UK Born Sikhs recieve training at Pakistani camps, lies that Sikh leaders give speeches to encourage militancy and terror from Pakistan over the internet there is no evidence of this on the web,Sikhs were falsely accused of bombing Air India in 1985 no Sikh has been proven guilty for this bombing,Among other lies were that the Sikh Homeland in Panjab is in the midst of a militant insurgency,Sikhs in the UK fund terrorism,UK Sikhs support terrorism through temple funds,Sikhs are forging links with Islamist terror groups,Sikh temples are becoming breeding grounds for Abu Hamza style Extremist preaching, the list is endless,This has had a huge effect on the average public who is uneducated ,Sikhs already get attacked due to mistaken identity after 9/11 .By broadcasting statements like the above:ie:Sikhs are with Al Qaeda this increases the risk of innocent Sikhs getting attacked.Sikhs in no way or shape or form support or fund terrorism and neither are we with Al Qaeda and nor do we receieve any training for any purpose from them, their is no proof that Sikhs have carried out acts of terror as said in the programme these are lies and amount to slander of the UK Sikh Coummunity,we are disgusted by the BBC and at how low their standards have become, and urge OFCOM to take swift action agianst them.

What a total load of bukwas! It seems like this Bassey guy's hoodwinked his white bosses into thinking that there a major problem with Sikh violence. The Al Qaeda link quote which is totally unsubstantiated was picked by the ever sensationalist Sun newspaper. Since when did the BBC accept any foreign government's definition of a terrorist? They didn't even call the 7/7 bombers as terrorists and yet this ignorant reporter just regurgitates Indian propaganda as gospel. As Asmlondon said, it's ironic that in the week that the courts have convicted Muslim of terror training our myopic friend Mr Bassey is turning over stones with a huge magnifying glass trying to project a non-existent problem into an equivalent of the Al Qaeda threat. The Al Qaeda link is accepted by the intrepid reporter without challenge and he is clearly trying to trap both Daljit Singh Bittu and Avtar Singh Sanghera into saying something which could then be used by the authorities. Bittu made the reporter look like an amateur and not matter what you think about Avtar Singh's language skills, he still did not fall into the carefully laid trap of Bassey.

Bassey treated the controlling party of the Havelock Rd Gurdwara with kid gloves and accepted all their unsubstantiated allegations as fact and did not present any evidence which backed the party's version of events. He just referred to Sohi visit to an RSS event contary to the Akal Takht directive as a 'visit to a Hindu temple'. There is no way that Bassey is unaware of what the true reason for the opposition to Sohi has been. What was laughable was the irony of Sohi who uses his family and friends as well as freshies from India as his muscle and yet he has the nerve to accuse the opposition of doing this!

At a time when the government is sending advisories to it's ministers to not talk of 'Islamic' terrorism, we have our own sells out using the media resource paid for in part by us through the licence fee dreaming up an imaginary 'Sikh' violence.

The 'undercover tent in Gurdwara' attempt to copy the 'undercover mosque' format was laughable. There was not explanation as to who the people were who were jostling or fighting. Were they opposition members or part of the committee?

The main issue here is-;

Where are all the articulate members of the Sikh Federation and why did they not demand a right to reply and if they did then why did the BBC not grant them this? The evidence presented by Bassey was so vague and unsubstantiated that any articulate could easily wrecked the whole basis of his documentary. The Babbar Khalsa and ISYF were banned in the fall out of 9/11 when the west suddenly woke up to Islamic terrorism and then like all attempts to close the stable door after the horse has bolted, banned a number of organisation based on evidence for biased foreign government 'evidence'

Why was not anyone from the opposition party not invited to answer Sohi's accusations. Sohi was given airtime to play act at being a victim and make as many accusations as he liked.

The documentary was a hatchet job on the Sikh movement and the use of monas as authorities on the Sikh issue is another reason to be skeptical of this documentary. Unfortunately this is the state of affairs in the community when any sell out who wants to make a career for himself or herself can attack their fellow Sikhs with impunity. Unless the youth who are more articulate than the elders get involved and start to thrown out through elections scumbags like Sohi, then we will get more of the same.

In 2003 a Sikh journalist exposed the Indian authorities for human rights violations, it to was broadcast on Radio 4. I wonder if Bassey listened to that?

'May 2003(broadcast) Ashes of Amritsar, Radio 4 Documentary.

Position: Reporter Lovejit Dhaliwal.

Investigative piece examining the role of the Indian government and the police while the Punjab state was under emergency rule from Delhi.'

I wonder if Bassey raised the recent Human Rights Watch report when he was in India?

proactive

The documentary was a hatchet job on the Sikh movement and the use of monas as authorities on the Sikh issue is another reason to be skeptical of this documentary.

I agree with all of what you say proactive except this.

Firstly, the correct term is Sahajdhari Sikh. Secondly, a Sahajdhari, or as you call them 'mona', may well be an authority on 'the Sikh issue'. Do you think that a Sikh without a Dastaar is devoid of his/her critical faculties?

My point is this: your sweeping statement above is indicative of the anti-intellectualism that permeates the global Sikh community and stagnates our progress as a people.

Either we are a nation, one nation, or we separate ourselves into Amrtidhari, Kesdhari, Sahajdhari, AKJ, DDT etc etc etc. If we opt for the latter, our extinction is imminent.

The 'documentary' was not rubbish because they used 'monas' - to say so is quite stupid in fact considering the majority of the people interviewed were not 'monas' - it was rubbish because it was journalism of the most pathetic kind.

Don't take my above comments too personally.

Many thanks,

Muzumdar.

Funny isn’t it how school kids don’t learn about British Empire how it raped the subcontinent of its wealth and prosperity for over 200 years, Britain would be bankrupt twice over if they had to repay it today! yet we, our parents came here to work and not scrounge off the state and yet we face institutional racism because of our identity, the same identity that gave so many of our Braves buried in the graveyards of Europe , go and see it says “SINGH” “SINGH “SINGH” on those gravestones Fathers, Bothers, Husbands, Sons we gave so much and yet we get called “Taliban” “terrorists” these people uneducated and Neanderthal mentality and there are those amongst us here that want upnai to join the Army! Why? Because they say they get to know us, understand us! LoL don’t you think after over a hundred years of ruling the Punjab if they wanted to know and understand us they would have done so by now? jokers People need to stop <admin-profanity filter activated> kissing and get a clear prospective of what the reality is.
