amrit kaurs post says it perfectly

they are both recquired

maharaj demands it, its not a choice or a question, they are both needed

u can be a perfect sikh on the inside but if u dont look like one, u dont have the discipline it takes to become one outwardly then u've still lost

same thing vice versa

u can wear a chola dumala huge taksali kirpan

but if ur a nindak, kaami, krodhi, etcetc

then ur just pakhand

u lose either way

bird cant fly with one wing

PLacing this issue into context, many individuals who are on this path take time to develop inner, and it is not necessary to have an outer to make up for deficiencies of the inner. Many are young and growing and changing, rehat both inner and outer requires life long discipline, something unchanging.

Sat Sri Akal,

If you are capable of keeping inner Rehat, then it is best things, as you will not be bothered by outward word.

That is you dont care about anything except Guru, nor your identity, your appearence , any other thing.

If you are capable of keeping inner rehat you will surely become Amritdhari else it is too much difficult to keep inner Rehat without reciting bani. Even in other religions it must have required a lot of effort.

You have to decide do you think you are keeping Inner Rehat as Guru Jee Said.

It is much more difficult to keep inner rehat then outer one.

Inner rehit is harder to keep and it isnt up to other people to judge about inner rehits or look at how good someone is inside, we need to look at ourselves only and how we can improve.

the Guru looks after us all, however we have alot more control over outer rehit. The discipline we set outside is what leads us to setting the dicipline inside........... both are important and required.....

Is it possible to have inner and not outer?

Dhan Dhan Guroo Amar Das Ji Maharaj

Jīahu nirmal bāhrahu nirmal.

Inwardly pure, and outwardly pure.

Bāhrahu ṯa nirmal jīahu nirmal saṯgur ṯė karṇī kamāṇī.

Those who are outwardly pure and also pure within, through the Guru, perform good deeds.

Kūṛ kī soė pahucẖai nāhī mansā sacẖ samāṇī.

Not even an iota of falsehood touches them; their hopes are absorbed in the Truth.

Janam raṯan jinī kẖatiā bẖalė sė vaṇjārė.

Those who earn the jewel of this human life, are the most excellent of merchants.

Kahai Nānak jin man nirmal saḏā raheh gur nālė. ||20||

Says Nanak, those whose minds are pure, abide with the Guru forever. ||20||

This is distortion of Sikhi.

This shabad does not refer to the 5 k's - outward rehit.

Guru Amar Das Ji is refering to people who act all holy but within themselves they are dirty, and contrasting with those that are pure from within and without.

:S

did you actually read the part of the shabad i posted?

Guroo Sahib addresses the people who are inside dirty outside pure BEFORE the thuk I posted when he says:

ਜੀਅਹੁ ਮੈਲੇ ਬਾਹਰਹੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ॥

Jīahu mailė bāhrahu nirmal.

Inwardly polluted, and outwardly pure.

Bāhrahu nirmal jīahu ṯa mailė ṯinī janam jūai hāriā.

Those who are outwardly pure and yet polluted within, lose their lives in the gamble.

THEN further on Maharaj says:

ਜੀਅਹੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬਾਹਰਹੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ॥

Jīahu nirmal bāhrahu nirmal.

Inwardly pure, and outwardly pure.

Bāhrahu ṯa nirmal jīahu nirmal saṯgur ṯė karṇī kamāṇī.

Those who are outwardly pure and also pure within, through the Guru, perform good deeds.

So, all maharaj mentions is people who are inwardly polluted but look pure outside and criticises them, however maharaj blesses those who are pure both inside AND outside.

Nowadays I must admit parchar is more focussed on the outward discipline such as Kesh etc

..Yes it is important to keep Kesh, but this is not the focus of a Sikh life - only a part of it.

Before we had Khalse who could take on 125,000.. nowadays (dare i say) 125,000s of outwardly "Khalse" have become less than 1!The problem of mass Amrit Sanchars.

Khalsa is about QUALITY not quantity.

    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
