I dont know, but i always thought that the purpose of sitting on the floor was so every person man/woman/rich/poor etc are all equal. If certain gudwaray do have tables they should abolish people sitting on the floor !

I concur that there should only be one or the other and not both. By having both options is basically creating inequality.

Exceptions for the handicap and the elderly.

You're a table&chair fanatic lol.

Ask a desi doctor / ayurveda practitioner why it's not good to eat standing up. Eastern civilisation has been around for much longer than Western, but we're quick to see everything foreign as better or more advanced. Until recently, most Asians did sit cross legged and eat.

However, as I wrote earlier, the main reason for Langar on the floor is maryada and respect ( similar to how we shouldnt really take Degh standing up, but that is another tradition that has been lost outside traditional groups of Sikhs).

honestly im not obsessed lol. im more obsessed with poverty and famine and war and oppression. that is why i think tables and chairs removal was an unnecessary action. i have asked doctors of their opinion and there is no evidence to say that eating while standing is bad for digestion. why would it be? it is the perceived rushing of food whilst standing that is said by some to be bad but its ok if you eat at a slower pace wether sitting or standing.

geo

whats the problem?

don't you have tables and chairs in your house?

yeah thats where we eat. sometimes i eat standing up, sandwiches and snacks.

how do you decide elderly and how do you decide if someone is disabled enough or not? who should decide this? in my local gurdwara there used to be bhai who used to run marathons well into his 70's - he was super fit. then again there maybe some 40 year old with a bad back or knee injury. so how do you decide? surely this creates more inequality than it solves? also this, isnt it possible that some bad hearted people could fake back injury to avoid sitting on floor?

if you simply have tables with or without chairs then that solves all problems.

i agree with equality of all men and women but isnt it amazing how much emphasis is placed on equality in the langar hall but some of these same sikhs would discriminate agaisnt different castes? equality has to be everywhere.

geo, why do you want to sit on a chair and eat at a table in the langar hall?

its is the way we all eat at home and its the way we eat langar at our gurdwara. all im really asking is for no one to impose their ideas on to our gurdwara. and most importantly people should not be killed for having chairs in their gurdwara.

but why should what you do at home be reflected in the gurudwara? do all guests at your house have to cover their heads?

it was not the only reason i gave. it is the most sensible way to eat the langar in my opinion
