ive just been wtching my mama jees wedding dvd and i noticed that after each part was read out and the keertan bit starts they stood up until the keertan finished.

are u supposed to do that? is there a particular way to walk around maharaj or do u just go as fast as u can and then do matha tekh and sit down even if the giani jees are still doing keertan?

im confused

well u walk around clockwise. but mot Nihangs walk around anti-clockwise out of respect. this being that if going clockwise, when u draw our kirpan (kirpan being on your left in scabbard, and then drawn with right hand) it wil be facing Guru Ji. this is total disrespect and a direct challenge by yudh. if walking anti-clockwise (kirpan being on your left in scabbard, and then drawn with right hand) it will face away from Guru Ji, showing great respect as you are willing to challenge anyone who comes up against Guru Ji.

its all about the mentality.

basically in the Anand Karaj, the Granthi Singh sitting on Maharaj's tabiya will read out the the Laavaan, one by one. So he would read the First laav, then the Ragi's would sing it whilst the couple matha tekh and walk around Maharaj. The ragis then stop singing when the couple have finished walking and then they sit back down. This happens four times for each laav.

sorry what i am asking/saying is.

in the dvd i seen that the raagis hadnt finished singing by the time they had gone round maharaj, so the couple stood up until they had finished which was about 20 seconds. are u supposed to stand up until the end or can u sit down even if the raagis are still singing?

they usually stand untill the Kirtan has finished. In most cases Iv seen the Ragis finish doing the Kirtan whilst the couple are still walking around Maharaj. In these cases the Ragis usually repeat the last lines again untill the couple have finished their laava.

Fateh parwaan karro ji,

The couple are seated as the Hukam is read and then they mathaa tekko and take the laaw.

A very apt analogy of the laaw is that the couple as 'two bodies but one belief' via the laaw say ' balihaar' (we are a sacrifice) to Guruji's Hukam.

Many after tekoing maata do a round of Sri Guru Granrth Sahib Ji. They do this so as to say that they are balihaar of Guruji.

haha thats called 'timing 'problems. Ideally each lava keertan should complete just as the couple have cpmpleted one round of walking but ask me! hahaaaa its sooooo hard to get the two actions to be in sync . the couple could get soooooo xcited and cant wait to be married so they start walking tooooo fast and the ragi cant keep up!!!! hahaaaa or starts singing at techno speed hahaaaaaa ! . or the couple gets nervous and start to drag their toes -opposite effect!!!! hahaaaa . and wen the couple finish their round too fast then everybody getsconfused as to whether they ought to stand and wait or sit riteaway . omgggg veeekram veer u remind me of weddings and their problems hahaaaaa

Nothing wrong but personally some remain standing out of respect.

Also it isnt wrong if the laavan are going on still and the couple have already went fully around, sometimes the kirtanee is so much into the shabad that he/she reads a line more than once or emphases by reading a line over again or adds simran in between. Its just in the moment :)

VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH

Rehat Maryada: http://sgpc.net/sikhism/sikh-dharma-manual.asp

The boy and girl should bow before the Guru Granth Sahib to betoken their acceptance of these instructions. Thereafter, the girl's father or the principal relation should make the girl grasp one end of the sash which the boy is wearing over his shoulders and the person in attendance of the Guru Granth Sahib should recite the matrimonial circumambulation stanzas {Lavan of the fourth Guru in the Suhi musical measure section of the Guru Granth Sahib } (Pp. 773-4). After the conclusion of the recitation of each of the stanzas, the boy, followed by the girl holding the end of the sash, should go round the Guru Granth Sahib while the ragis or the congregation sing out the recited stanza.

The boy and girl, after every circumambulation, should bow before the Guru Granth Sahib in genuflexion, lowering their forehead to touch the ground and then stand up to listen to the recitation of the next stanza. There being four matrimonial circumambulation stanzas in the concerned hymn, the proceeding will comprise four circumambulations with the incidental singing of the stanza. After the fourth circumabulation, the boy and girl should, after bowing before the Guru Granth Sahib, sit down at the appointed place and the Ragis or the person who has conducted the ceremony should recite the first five and the last stanza of the Anand Sahib.
