I agree with Humkire Ji.

Sikhism never had stern laws, like other religions. See, instead of saying do not have aldultary, otherwise you will be stone, Guruji says, control your lust. By controlling your lust, a lot of other problem gets cured. Simple, but that is the hardest part. It's easy for a human to not have adultery but at the same time watches pornography 24x7. But first, Guru said, do not have ego. Once we dont have ego, we love all the same. Guru Gobind Singh Ji said-"jin prem kio, thin hi prabh paio".

Which SIkhi are you referring to. Sikhi does have rules anybody who commits adultery has committed a Bujjar Kureheit and in some cases such people are excomminicated from the Sikh religion. Controling your lust is a rule. Keeping Kes is a rule. Every Guru GIVES rules and every good students follows these rules.

Guru Gobind SIngh Ji says "REhat Pyaarey Mujh Ko Sikh Pyaarey Nahi" I love the SIkh who lives a discipled life not the Sikh who just calls himself a Sikh without the disciplie ( rules of SIkhi). A person does not follow GUru Jis rules out of ego they do so out of love. One can never live a Sikh way of life without loving this disciplined way of life. WHen Guru Nanak asked Bhai Lehna Ji go and eat that dead human being. Baba Ji lovingly said which side do you want me to start on. It was this love for Guru Jis commands that Baba Ji won GUru Jis apporoval. SImilarly it is those SIkhs who live a disciplined way of life who win GUru Jis approval.

You are right love is needed but one needs discipline. The two cannot exist without one another especially in a Guru- SIkh ( student) relationship. The realationship will not last long.

I dont think we have such rules. Firstly, people being excomminicated from community? I dont think so... Sikhism is a religion of forgiveness. Remember Satta and Balwand? Controlling lust is ESSENtial. A must. again and again it is mentioned in Guru Granth Sahib. Every guru says, remove the 5 sins and take the 5 virtues.

Then comes the rehat. Sikh rehat is following guruji rules. Yes, the story of Bhai Lehna. Why did he do it? Is it because firstly, the ego is gone. when ego goes, anything master says we do. right? You cant do anything with ego. So, rule: remove ego. It's not like Guru Nanak said "if you dont listen to me to eat the body, you are not my sikh".

Also, everything we should see in Guru Granth Sahib. Some stories are distorted over time and we cant just follow them. Like the story of Guru Gobind singh saying I can forgive anything but not someone who sleeps with a moslem woman. when all gurus preached equality, why should one sin be bigger than another???

Actually dicipline comes after ego goes out. Again and again, Guru ji says remove ego, and everything falls into place.

<<<< Sikhism is a religion of forgiveness. >>>>

Sikhism is a compassionate faith but if you do wrong then you will be punished, this is quite clear.

Guru Amar Das Ji says:

Pauree:

The Lord pervades and permeates the water, the land and the sky; there is no other at all.

The Lord Himself sits upon His Throne and administers justice. He beats and drives out the false-hearted.

The Lord bestows glorious greatness upon those who are truthful. He administers righteous justice.

So praise the Lord, everybody; He protects the poor and the lost souls.

He honours the righteous and punishes the sinners. ||16||

<<<< Then comes the rehat. Sikh rehat is following guruji rules. >>>>

And if you do not follow these rules then there is no reason why this cannot be pointed out.

<<<<< Yes, the story of Bhai Lehna. Why did he do it? It's not like Guru Nanak said "if you dont listen to me to eat the body, you are not my sikh". >>>>

Infact that is exactly what Guru Ji was trying to say. It was a test. Guru Ji was abusive to all his sangat and even beat them, all fell by the wayside only Bhai Lehna Ji stayed.

<<<< Also, everything we should see in Guru Granth Sahib. Some stories are distorted over time and we cant just follow them. Like the story of Guru Gobind singh saying I can forgive anything but not someone who sleeps with a moslem woman. when all gurus preached equality, why should one sin be bigger than another??? >>>>

Again I think you miss the point. This is exactly what Guru Ji said - do not sleep with a muslim woman. Rather then rejecting this off hand try looking at why this was. At the time there was great turmoil, the muslins were molesting hindu/sikh women as a matter of course. Guru Ji forbade any contact with moslim women so that there could never be any retaliation towards moslin women. Infact Guru Ji forbade even to touch muslin women – if you cannot touch them you cannot hurt or molest them, thereby preserving the honour of the women of the people who where causing such atrocities towards the hindu/sikh women.

<<<< Actually dicipline comes after ego goes out. Again and again, Guru ji says remove ego, and everything falls into place. >>>>

This is true, but one must not confuse ego with instruction. If you see a wrong then it is not ego to point it out. If some one does not get up at amritwella then if some one points this out, this is not necessarily ego, this could be someone pointing someone in the right direction. People are wondering aimlessly in this world and all too often we accuse some of ego if he/she tries to point out peoples failings so that they can clean up their life .

Anyway, i am from Malaysia....

Aye you from malaysia? gr8!!!! I have many gursikh friends there-Hari Singh(gurudwara council),Malkit Singh(SNSM),Sukhdev Singh(dashmesh),Jasvinder Singh(niketan), Autar Singh, Gyani Mohinder Singh, the gyani from Titiwangsa gurudwara , and the wisma gurudwara ,petaling jaya gurudwara(lakhbeer singh) etc etc etc)but tell us more . How you got inspired ???-thru niketan?SNSM? SSS?KHALSAJEE?SAMELANS? ,tell us your journey so far? The Sikhi-wards journey of your life. I can never understand one thing and that is with so many Sikh IT experts in Malaysia , why no samelan ever gets broadcast live for young Sikhs around the world to benefit-that really baffles me). Btw i hope some jethas are still going to sabah n sarawak as well as sumatra for Sikhi parchar.

Well you dint call yourself a stone this time so im not going to stone you no more hahaaa as u must be already very very 'stoned ' after all your amritvela simran hahaaaaaaa. You must av done a degree in geology to have an obsession with rocks and stones hahaaa . Lemme say this in your Malay language hahaa , jangan jadi batu, marilah kita bersatu hahaaaa .

As to what Bandha and Sukhdeep Singh said, this thread started off with a question about the technalities of amritvela, not a questioning about its necessity. No one questions the given fact that in Sikhi we have been blessed with maryada and need to be obedient and disciplined and as elders would say be in a tyaar byaar state. However what i am saying is that becoming a rehitvaan amritdharee Sikh can sometimes happen instantly ,but at other times can be a process. A lot of what i struggled to do and to be in my teens and 20s comes naturally to me today after many years of fighting battles with my ego thru Guru's kirpa ,and likewise for others. A mango ripens slowly but surely. You know where you need to be, but each of us reaches there at varying times. Kirpa, karma, upao, gurmukha ki sangat all come together in magical ways to transform us on this path so we become better n better in rehit ,in amritvela ,in kirtan ,gurbani santhiya and arth etc with every passing day.

As to those who give excuses, have strayed away , are in kurahit, etc etc all we can do is to step up parchar. It kinda baffles me how some Amritdharee youngsters today can be fast to condemn those who are falling away and stand up for maryada etc etc but are totally hopeless wen it comes to transforming yourself into an effective missionary and ambassador for Gurujee's Sikhi parchar , with all the modern technological skills they possess ----like computer knowledge ,how to use twitter ,face book ,compress and sending files ,using music, graphic design, media technology to do more n more n more parchar. When i was your age , i didnt sit at a computer and just preach about maryada to the already converted ,or go around showing a big disgust for those who are in 'dehndi' kela or bajjar kurahit or are back sliding or wotever!!!! Instead we got together and organised ourselves into keertan and parchar jethas, we pioneered Sikh socieities at universities ,coleges and schools ,we printed out comics and pamplets on Sikhism . We gave our hand to those who smoke or drink or take drugs or wotever and organised youth satsangs they could attend and samelansThere we tried to do parchar of Sikhi in the language they understood ,the vocabulary they understood . We showed them plenty of love and support and slowly helped to bring many many kurahe sikhs onto Gurujee's path thru Guru's grace. This is what my life has been about!!! not sitting at a computer and just passing big mullah type pronouncements on my big arm chair and passing death sentences and cursing the lifes of those who are strayed away! I remember once my jetha was on a tour to a town where the majority of Sikhs dint even know what Sikhism is anymore! On the way --ouchhhh a big thunderstorm came and on the main motorway the tyres of the big van carrying us skidded on a big oil spill that had become lethal with the rain . The van overturned ! Many of us got injured and were bleeding! But in chardikela power we got up, turned the van around and continued our journey singing bole so nihal sat sri akal! . And we reached on time ,and in our bleeding state we just wiped our wounds and sat to do keertan and strongly worded inspirational parchar b4 a big amount of people who you would condemn as monas or bajjar kurahiteeas because we were hell-bent on turning the tide of monism in the community. This is the spirit of Sikhi!

A Sikh has got no time to spare judging others whether from his own race or any race. A Sikh is a man/woman busy in prayer, busy in parchar, busy in spreading the Word of Gurujee, busy in showing his love to the most sinful of men, busy looking after others, busy in expressing Guru-magic working within and around him/her to inspire and touch people's lifes in very meaningful ways.

Everytime you feel tempted to argue with someone on this site and take a moral high ground ,instead start a new thread talking about something inspiring about your daily life that will make any non amritdharee visiting this site want to go to a satsang or read more about Sikhism ,or do an exegesis

of the Vaak Gurujee gave you at amritvela , or talk about how what you heard/your inspiring experiences during the last time you went to a Gurudwara. And if you young and have knowledge of computers and exposure to modern multi media then think of ways you can use it to inspire others . Take pictures of your local Gurudwara ,of your family doing simran ,keertan together in your home , and post them on here. Make little files recording you talking something gurmat ,or doing keertan and post them on this site . Why hide your beautiful rehat filled disciplined life from others and just come on here to publish a few opinions about what you think is right.

I keep repeating this but i run a business . In my business ,i employ many people. They are not allowed to sit idle and waste time passing judgements about what they think is right or wrong with this world. They have to work hard to earn their wages. They have to be happy, positive, friendly, hard working, responsible, and honest people. In return i reward them well and offer them all my support.

I set similar standards as to my relationship with Gurujee. If someone wants to do bajjar kurehat and go to hell thats their problem not mine! But as long as such a person is within my radar, I am going to do my best to pester them with my love and continue to help them, giving them every chance to turn around and become chardi kela people. Infact im not even theorising. That is the simple short story of my life, manifested in many different situations with such people which i have spilled over on many different threads on this site not for my but Gurujee's glory . I take my inspiration, amongst others , from Bhai Sahib Bhai Veer Singh who spent his life never condemnining anyone, but writing spiritual antologies and poems and doing parchar, and printing inspirational pamplets and books and bulletins to do parchar of Sikhi, whilst living his own life as a chardi kela gursikh.

I wish to tell you a little true story b4 i end this . A few years ago, a mona Sikh happened to pass by my shop and he saw and of course recognised me as a Sikh and asked me if the solicitors nxt shop to mine were open. I said no ,they are closed ,its a saturday. As he was standing at the door to my shop ,i said to him 'are you ok ,u looking for solicitors and you look trubled, why dont you come in and talk to me ,maybe i can help, come have a tea with me''. So he came in.

He told me he had been beating his wife ,she kicked him out, and then he got involved in bringing back a white cocaine sniffing hooker/prostitute into his council flat. This prostitute stole everything he had and then reported him to the police for sexually molesting her. Now he had been kicked out from his flat ,had become homeless and was waiting to be sentenced.

For many many afternoons, i made him sit with me , i made him realise that he had done wrong with his life and now only Gurujee could save him . He went to the local gurudwara ,told the gyani to help him do an ardas of forgiveness. Then as he was homeless he would sit in the park the whole day and night(summer time) and do simran and cry and do ardas. Ultimately, Gurujee took mercy on him ,his father-in-law forgave him ,his wife forgave him ,his children too wanted him back. Then one day as he was in my backyard, the solicitor came out there too and said ''O Attar singh , i wanted to phone you but you are here. i have good news for you .the woman has dropped all her charges against you and you are free now, you wont have to go to jail ''. This man is living a straight life now and his mobile phone is downloaded with gurbani shabads keertan that he listens to day and night ,plus he has now got a job too.

So veerjees /bhenjees, stand up and do parchar . You are all ambassadors appointed by Gurujee. As gurbani says this is the season to sow . The fields are ready ,the seed is aplenty.

I have to say once more, could't have said it better than the way you just inspired people. Definitely agree more than 100%. We just have too much negativity going around. We need more and more +ve attitude people around. I take sikhi as any subject that we go to schools/colleges to learn to. There are protocols of schools to follow to learn the subject, we have to follow. Pretty strangely we are ready to follow the worldly protocols to learn the subject to get a good paying job one day, but we are not ready to follow the protocol to earn sikhi. Always, remember worldy knowledge is to make you earn your bread to survive this human life, but sikhi knowledge is not only going to help with your daily life, but in life beyond. It makes you not only the better person, it fulfils the needs of your soul. It eventually willl get you out of karmic cycle.

Only if we realize the importance of what SIKHI will do for us, won't world be a better place to live. Nobody would want to judge others, nobody would want to use the harsh language, people would want to help each other grow/live. We will have a shared love for whole humanity not just our near and dear ones. Its like teachers, they don't put students down for not being the best. Not everybody in the class is best. There would be few who will be exceeding others. But teacher is ready to teach everybody equally. How much students retain from the subject material, depends upon the intellectual capabilites of students. Some students are sharp in subject matter, some are sharp in arts side of it. Class is mix of all different types. So lets be like a good teacher and not judge and let people learn at their own speed. And let Babaji be the judge of who is accepted or who is not. We, being the students, just follow as much as we can and try for being the best. SIKHISM is an individual journey. yes, we should be doing all our efforts to encourage, to inspire others, and look for inspirations for ourselves from the lives of Gursikhs, but at the same time, be tolerant of others who are not fully there yet, and are on the path yet (most of us, actually cann't say we are fully there, we are all on the path, but stages where we are, are different). SO brothers and sisters, keep walking on your journey and help the others on the way.

One is unwilling to submit to Guru Jis rules because of their ego. People are unwilling to keep their kes, refrain from meat and liquor because of their ego. One is unwilling to wake up for amrit vela, do their Nitnem because of their ego. The ego is disgusted but maya makes the ego feel sweet. Thats why people like their sweet sleep during the holy hours of AMrit Vela despite Guru Jis rule which says wake up for Amrit Vela. But the "sweeet" ego says No there is no reason to wake for Amrit Vela this is Bahamanism by the way I need my full sleep. The ones who wake they do to destroy the ego through Guru Jis kirpa, but the ones who stay asleep they like to be defeated by ego. If everything is forgiven then why was Guru HarRai Sahhibs son banned from the panth, same thing with Guru Arjan Dev Jis brother.
