Not The Sikhi I Knew

All I am seeing is people's passion for their understanding of Sikhism, equalled by an equal amount of passionate hatred for those who do not subscribe to that set of criteria for Sikhi they hold in their mind fervently. Tolerance is no where to be seen, and everyone has their own idea of some sort of a puritanical standard they judge Sikhi by, coupled with an interpretation of Sikhi as a moral code for some sort of righteous living based on ever ending, contentious lists of do's and dont's that does not unite us but divides us as fervent ternal enemies! Everyone accuses the other of blasphemy, of hinduization of Sikhi, of corruption of Sikhi, and of compromising Sikhi with politics . We have become enemies to each other filled with an absolute hatred, distaste and hell fire intolerance to each other's presence on this planet, and our fingers stay stubbornly at each other to blame.

that has the be the 'truest' comment and observation i have read in a long time.....

Bloom Jee,

You have the rapping style and poetic flaw, i.e the lyrics, and all you need now is the music to go with it, if you have watched the film, Music and Lyrics to understand the wonderful, exciting relationship between music and lyrics hehe . Then you can rap all this, beautifully for us all. We need to always create beautiful forms of expression for beaming Sikhi to the world. I have mentioned it b4 , how inspiring it was to have read the daily habits of Bhai Sahib Bhai Veer Singh , whereby he awoke extremely early , soaked himself in nitnem, simran, and Gurbani, then in the dewy hours of the night wrote his wonderful poetry and essays that surpass the talents of shakespeare, blake and walt whitman!!!!

And you have stumbled upon the notes of the harp I have been strumming, hehe, that Sikhi is about LIFE, not about bickerings, quarrels, arguments, religous boxing in. As people visit this website, I do not wish to see this website degenerate itself into a breaking news channel about the latest this and the latest that. This website has far more to offer beyond that! This website and other Sikh websites should be pushing the boundaries of our understanding of Sikhi, reinventing Sikhi parchar using every means of emerging technologies, and giving youths millions of ideas how to be the greatest parcharaks of Sikhi where they are in their individual capacities. People from all races and religions, not just Sikhs! need to be able to visit this website and be filled with awe that indeedi , Sikhism is GOD'S MOST PRECIOUS GIFT TO MANKIND!, that SIKHI is THE answer to the problems of this world . Dhan Dhan Gur Amardas Maharaj was under no illusion when HE proclaimed in raag bhairoh (p.1131) ....KAL MEH PRET JINI RAM NA PECHATA...... KAL MEH RAM NAM VDEAEE, and on p.1132 ......BAJH GURU J-GT BAURANA BHULA CHOTAA KHAEE....MERE MAN SDAH RAHO SATGUR KI SERNAI!!!!!!! VAH GUR VAH! .......This Gurbani verses aint just words!!!! These are God's darts aimed at our thick skulls to wake us up as to what we got.

Every now and then, its the season for a REVIVAL! I remember in the early 70s, a lot of things were going downhill for us . There was a Sikhi, very very punjabee based, whilst the upcoming generation's grasp of the punjabee language, especially in foreign countries was going down- hill. But through Guru's kirpa suddenly a million different things started igniting and sparking at once across the world! All across the world, somehow magically Sikh societies started sprouting in schools, coleges and universities, wise Sikhs started to organise samelans and youth camps everywhere from Malaysia, Singapore till Canada. There in the USA, whites started to become Sikhs, books and tracts, pamplets on Sikhism started to be printed more widely in English . Harban Singh's Nitnem, Sukhmani , and Asa ki // translations became easily available . Sikhs in faraway places like Malaysia started to print keertan shabads for the sangat, youths started to organise weekly youth satsangs. Meantime, ragees like Bhai Gopal Singh started introducing a more simple form of keertan that could be easily understood and sung along with , Meantime, the new technologies of that day meant that through the casette format, people could now import the keertan and path in gurudwaras into their homes. Suddenly you could now pass across the house of Sikhs and hear keertan blasting away . Movies like Nanak Naam Jehaj Hai and Dukh Bhanjan Tera Naam were beamed to sangats around the world!!!! Apart from the famous Ragee Rajinder Singh from Singapore, and Dharam Singh Zakhmee, even non Sikhs like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan joined in to show how beautiful and inspiring Gurbani Keertan is! Groups like AKJ and Dodra started highlighting how energising Simran is .. and how vital . Parcharaks like Maan Singh Jhaur and Sant Singh Maskeen showed how powerful the katha of Gurbani is. Come the 80s and another REVIVAL was automatically born! in 1984(saka SRI HARMANDIR SAHIB), as Sikhs started wising up about the hinduization of Sikhi and started focussing on Gurpurabs rather than divali, and got energised in fervour listening to Sant Jernail Singh Jee.

Today its 2010, and the time has arrived for the next wave!!! Now the time has arrived for the party to start. And it starts from this website! I beg all young Sikhs to start pumping this site with inspiring , exciting fresh ways of expressing your Sikhi love on this site . I want people to come to this site and read something fresh, something that makes Sikhi luv jump into their brains in an instant. Lets not rant about our woes no more, let us not keep letting out our little brain farts, let us not hijack this site to keep our little wars alive! This site has to become an exciting party where anyone could click and listen live to someone doing nitnem , someone doing simran , someone doing keertan etc instantly. This site has to be a site where you can refer all your non Sikh friends to visit daily to understand and be inspired about Sikhism .

A lot of veers/bhenjees on this site posted beautiful extracts from Bhai Nand Lal etc on Guru Gobind Singh's Avtar Purab just gone past, but how many of us actually shared that with our non Sikh friends . How many of us told the story of Guru Gobind Singh(GGS) to a non Sikh on GGS birthday . How many of us took a non Sikh m8 to a gurudwara on GGS bday. Now this is what i mean. Its no use just coming here and cutting and pasting and then living your life in a state of complacency about parchar. If indeed what you cut and paste blows away your mind, why are you not printing it out and sharing it out with a load of non Sikhs. Why are you not inviting the closest of your non Sikh m8s to go with you to a Sikhi camp this summer coming. Is it because you wanna keep GGS as just your private little DADDY !!!!!!! We see millions of new films like Avatar, and we study film studies and animation courses but we are behind in starting little individual projects of little animations and dramas we could post superflously on youtube. We see emerging wonderful singers like Joe McElderry (XFactor) or Regina Spektor, but why dont we incorporate their wonderful singing styles to make the keertan we do, the most ecstatic form of music that we could sing, record and share with people with whom we study, live or work of all races and colours. Why cannot we do keertan on guitars that surpasses the talents of John Mayer and Newton Faulkner (glastonbury ) and also hip hop styles like Jay C . No! we hide behind excuses that we are copycats only worthy of repeating the way the older generation did things. We hide behind excuses that we have our own problems to sort out then to need to worry about the next non Sikh. We study philosophy and psychology, english literature and physics, we work as IT professionals , as doctors and lawyers, but none of that is expressed in writing beautiful new essays on Sikhism, in helping to reduce drunkenness on weekends in western cities, in helping to be Mr Motivators and career and study advisors in our personal capacities to all in need. We shy away from having a lot of non -Sikh internet friends on myspace, facebook, twitter and msn, yahoo etc etc with whom we could become best m8s and share Sikhi bit by bit.

We need to blast away and pump out Sikhi in a way that relates to how people understand things according to their language, lifestyle, age, colour, race and culture, and our role models for that are our Gurus themselves!!!!!!

My beloveds, let our inspiration for Sikhi be a force unleasing from our souls that is like a hurricane blowing everywhere and anywhere 24/7. Let the REVIVAL begin now! now! now! now! now!. Squeeze out your last breathe and your last drop of blood from within your soul to be a barking dog of Guru Gobind Singh. Bark so so sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo LOUD that everyone hears you , i mean EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU are a COBRA so STING!!!!!!! STING SOOO HARD THAT EVERYONE GETS STUNG BY WHAT YOU GOT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU ARE A LION!!!!!! SO ROAR! ROAR SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO LOUD THAT EVERYONE HEARS YOUR ROAR!

Bhenjee Amarjit Kaur Jee, You have understood it well, that the root cause of the way we are misdirecting Khalsa Panth today is forgetfullness, as well as our ego.

A very integral part of being in chardikela is to be in a state of tyaar-b-tyaar i.e to be ready for action. This is ingrained in Sikhi living by wanting to take a cold shower even in winter, so our senses and mind are fully awake and fresh, then to add on to that freshness and inner- awakedness through nitnem and simran, etc, so our minds are not dull , but washed pure by the amrit of Gurbanee, so our minds are sparkling with God's light which gives us heightened intellect and intuition and mental, physical , and spiritual prowess.

Khalsa living is about WAKING UP! from slumber, forgetfulness, sleep, laziness, complacency, and sloth. Khalsa living is to be ARMED to the teeth with humbleness, braveness, mental and physical power, and with Naam power. Khalsa living is about being in continous ACTION, while in meditation. This is the direction we need to take, i.e to be awake, armed and in action. This is because khalsa panth is not just some religion you make your comfort zone, within which you slothfully define yourself, and squirm in a little self-centred existence. Khalsa Panth represents God's Army of Heaven's Angels on earth!!!!!! Angels called SANT SIPAHEES !!! WAH! WARRIOR SAINTS! and no one worth 2 pence who says he/she is a Sikh can in anyway afford NOT to make this the sole and only purpose of their existence, else they are namesake Sikhs, amritchekya or not amritchekyea. Angels have nothing to do with ego! angels have everything to do with living selflessly, to serve God's creation and to be fearless and humble in one place. Angels DO NOT stay in one place! Angels float and move around swayed by the Wind of God's Pleasure and Command! Angels are not racist, judgemental, political, or religous people who worry about money in the bank and mortgages and pensions! Angels are just ANGELS!!! They live for a beautiful purpose, they manifest for a purpose and when they are done, they are gone! Now thats what we are supposed to be!

Guru Gobind Singh created the KHALSA AKAL PURUKH KI FAUJ i.e The Army of Warrior Saints BUT this process was started by Guru Nanak Dev who promised ........ BLHAREE GUR APNE DEOHAREE SAD VAAR, JINH MANAS TEH DEVTEH KIEH , KRTH NA LAGEE //!!! You heard that.... MANAS TEH DEVTEH KIEH, i.e Satgur transforms and translates mere mortals into angels! A simple, very indeed simple question to ask ourselves is '''Am I an angel , yes or no''. Indeed, a Sikh has to be utterly humble and consider himself/herself as nothing but a lowly servant of God, BUT there have to be certain days when you look at what you just said, did, and thought, and can tell yourself ''WOW!!!! that wasn't the OLD UGLY me but the NEW ANGELIC me ''. You gotta feel an angelic vibration flowing through your words, actions and deeds. You gotta to be able to touch someone, and feel God within you touching that person with the tenderest of love. You gotta to be able to look at the person who annoys you the most and feel God playing a game, hiding within that person, and seeing what you will do as HE playfully annoys you through that person.

You gotta to see God disguising himself in anyone and everyone around you, testing your reaction.

You cannot afford to walk around just thinking self-centredly that YOU are a Sikh belonging to so and so religion, belonging to a sub category of humans. NO! you need to rise above yourself and realise you were created to be a Warrior Saint and that is your calling in life..... a Warrior Saint with a given mandate you gotta accomplish before you are taken away quick and fast. This fact, that you were created to be a WARRIOR SAINT, are becoming a WARRIOR SAINT, and live just to be a WARRIOR SAINT, has to consume you night and day, and inspire you night and day. Your every next little step, has to be in the direction of being a WARRIOR SAINT, a SANT SIPAHEE.

Sikhism is not about a struggle , a daily little struggle to get up, to pray, a struggle to be good etc etc etc-thats just your old little you!, not the warrior saint in you. Get above it, be a lio, stop your struggles and live as a lion/lioness. The day you took AMRIT , warrior sainthood was imputed INTO you, you were held by your hair, beheaded and a new YOU was created!!! Look at the BAISAKHI of 1699 to understand what I mean. GURU GOBOND SINGH MAHARAJ DOES NOT do things in half measures!! GURU GOBIND SINGH is not in the business of creating some tender struggling weak Sikhs who struggle with everything from amrit vela to eating too much to hero worshipping others!! GURU GOBIND SINGH has held you by your hair, whether or not you realise it, chopped off your head, put a BRAND NEW head on, aimed a MASSIVE shot of AMRIT within your soul to keep you buzzing n buzzing n buzzing n buzzing!!!!!! DECLARED you a warrior saint !!!!!!! now go...... and be a warrior saint, dwell in a constant consciousness that you are a warrior saint and just be one !!!!!!! This is what AMRIT meant, nothing less! .......... SATGUR MERA MAAR JEWALEH!!!!!! You weren't even for a moment created to live a little ''your'' life of 'your nitnem'' or ''your simran'' or '' your maryada'' ...... with which you struggle because of ''you'' !! The day you became a Khalsa, you were propelled into a totally different state of warrior saint consciousness!! This new superhuman, angelic state of consciousness was given rightaway at that one magical moment when you were ruthlessly and lovingly beheaded!, whether or not you realised it, because all you may have seen is some ritual before your eyes, not what was REALLY TAKING PLACE!! GURU GOBIND SINGH did not give Amrit in 1699 and retire away in peace!! HE EVER LIVES and HE HAS NOT STOPPED REPEATING THAT PROCESS AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN since that first occasion!! thats what HE did to you on that day, when you were taking AMRIT. HE ''WAS!'' THERE, RIGHT THERE, TREATING YOU NO LESS THE WAY THE 5 ORIGINAL PIARAS WERE TREATED. SO BE LIKE THEM . They aint your dead and gone heroes!!!!!! they are your LIVING BROTHERS! they do not want you to hero worship them, they wanna you hug them because you got exactly to the dot wot they got!!

Khalsa Jee, we are a panth of Sant Sipahees, we are WARRIOR SAINTS, We are God's Angels. Now, let us get on with serving humanity irrespective of race, religion, colour and creed and let us unite as brothers and sisters of one family with a very very very very important mandate on our head! Let this be, so so so so xciting that everyone wants to become a sant sipahee. We are not in the business of living little sheltered lifes, we are in the business of making humans angels!!!

After baptising with Khande Ki Paahul(AMRIT) one has not become

Sikh, but just taken admission in the school of Sikhi like a child taking

admission in NURSERY. What would you call a student of nursery claiming

to have achieved the Degree of P.Hd. ?

After taking Amrit ,one has to recite Nitnem ,do SIMRAN and do

SEHAJ PAATH, for years togather in addition to study of various supplementry

Sikh litrature and historical scripts and only than one can be called a Sikh.

Let us remember :-

Gur sategur kaa jo sikh akhaaeae s bhalakae outh har naam dhhiaavai ||

One who calls himself a Sikh of the Guru the True Guru shall rise in the early

morning hours and meditate on the Lord's Name.

Uddam karae bhalakae parabhaathee isanaan karae anmrit sar naavai ||

Upon arising early in the morning, he is to bathe, and cleanse himself in the pool of nectar.

oupadhaes guroo har har jap jaapai sabh kilavikh paap dhokh lehi jaavai ||

Following the Instructions of the Guru, he is to chant the Name of the Lord,

Har, Har. All sins, misdeeds and negativity shall be erased.

Fir charrai dhivas gurabaanee gaavai behadhiaa outhadhiaa har naam dhhiaavai ||

Then, at the rising of the sun, he is to sing Gurbani; whether sitting down or

standing up, he is to meditate on the Lord's Name.

Jo saas giraas dhhiaaeae maeraa har har so gurasikh guroo man bhaavai ||

One who meditates on my Lord, Har, Har, with every breath and every morsel

of food - that GurSikh becomes pleasing to the Guru's Mind.

Jis no dhaeiaal hovai maeraa suaamee this gurasikh guroo oupadhaes sunaavai ||

That person, unto whom my Lord and Master is kind and compassionate -

upon that GurSikh, the Guru's Teachings are bestowed.

Jan naanak dhhoorr mangai this gurasikh kee jo aap japai avareh naam japaavai ||2||

Servant Nanak begs for the dust of the feet of that GurSikh,

who himself chants the Naam, and inspires others to chant it. ||2||

K.SINGH DEEP

You have somehow confused that shabad about gursatgur ka jo sikhi...... with the import of the philosophy of Amrit. You should have read that post in its entirety, as well all other posts in this thread to get a drift of what is being discussed, then you would not have judged so quickly at face value that an ego-centric statement was being implied. Do read PARASPRASNA by Kapur Singh as a basic book for an indepth understanding of what i have tried to explain....or volumes 1, 2 , and 3 of Spirit of the Sikh by professor Puran Singh, or backdated lectures/kathas of the utter fiery Gyani Maan Singh Jhaur.

Guru Gobind Singh was not creating a ''nursery'' institution when HE arranged and administered Khande da Pahul in April 1699, thats where you are theologically very wrong. Guru Gobind Singh was creating an institution/ a resurrection hub for the death of mere mortals to be reborn in that one singular act as warrior saints, as Khalsas , as people with a new direction, a new purpose, a new focus, a new psyche, a new mandate and a new calling on their life! Thats what you are given in that one divine supernatural act! You walk away as a totally new person. You DO NOT walk away as a sinner no more, you walk away with a new head, you walk away with the greatest honour and privilege that can be accorded to any human being on earth from the throne room of God and Guru. You do not walk away with a little set of dos and donts and some miniscule formulas to memorise for living, you walk away with a brand new lifestyle, a totally new mindset, a totally new psyche!

AS you walk away, you walk away no more as a materialistic lazy egoistic self-serving person , not believing and loving God. On the contrary you walk away as a Warrior Saint! and with the mentality of a Warrior Saint . Read the biography of Bhai Sahib Bhai Randheer Singh to this effect or Ramajee, Southall. m Now what does a warrior saint do? Thats where the shabad you quoted comes into play. A Warrior Saint, a Khalsa, a Sant Sipahee, an angel, does not live in a struggle but, automatically, due to his/her new nature and new found love, does exactly what Gur Ramdas Maharaj says in the shabad you quoted................i.e Such a saint has lost his love for long nights of sleep, but indeedy very very excitedly wakes up , washes, does simran , reads gurbani, cleanses his mind, pumps himself up with even more nectar, and so forth.'' ' You need to interpret that shabad in this deeper context. That shabad is not giving a hinduistic , religoustic formula to some tender infant in some religous institution. That shabad is describing ecstatically the state of being of a Sikh, of a warrior saint , of a khalsa , once Gurujee has grabbed that person's struggling fingers and made that person HIS own darling.

Further to your point, yes indeedy , Sikhi is about utter humility, hence the greatest of Sikhs will say i'm no body, and of course, Sikhi is a life-long learning curve, no argument there, but.... that is not the issue being highlighted in my post if you were to contemplate at a deeper level the purport of my post.

We need to do justice to the high and mighty institution of Amrit . Amrit creates not kintergardens and nursery schools but Amrit creates mighty Singhs i.e ruthless lions with lion power! Amrit transforms doves into eagles and hawks . That does not take a million light years. That takes Guru Gobind Singh a split second to take old life and give new life. Learning about that new life could billions of years , thats another issue.

Vahiguroo..this is amazing thread..I still have to grasp all of post in, humkire posts are full of wisdom. I will try to avoid getting into heated debates in future, rather spent time self reflecting on veer ji previous posts, look fwd to his future posts and capitalize on basics of sikh rather than intellectual theological discussions ...!!
