In the west we don't blindly vote for somone in our constituency if he is Sikh, we vote for the person best suited for the job so why should it be any different in Punjab.

Would you vote for a proper Gursikh who is incompetent, corrupt and has no idea about brining in beneficial reforms or a punjabi who identifies themselves as a sikh or even a non-sikh (hindu, muslim, christian other) who would be the best person for the job?

BTW I have no affiliation with punjab politics.

I wrote about sikh issues as Sikhs have majority in Punjab. Once they are in majority one cann't ignore the issue of constituents.

He was there as a minister in punjab. if he was so bright he should have proved himself especially as Finance minister.

In the west Govt. doles out massive subsidies to farmers. On the other hand Manprret wants to remove subsidies to poor farmers of Punjab.

Manpreet accused of nepotism and favouritism

People’s Party of Punjab (PPP) President Manpreet Singh Badal today received a severe jolt with his former officer on special duty (OSD) and party core committee member Charanjit Singh Brar not only resigning from the party but also accusing its founder of nepotism and favouritism.

Charanjit Brar has been associated with Manpreet Badal for 16 years and his desertion is expected to help the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). He has chosen to resign at a time when Manpreet is wooing NRIs in Canada.

When he was questioned, Charanjit claimed that he would continue to be in politics and would now choose between the SAD and the Congress. Before resigning from his post and making the announcement here, Charanjit also held a workers meeting at Gill Kalan village near Bathinda to show the “real face” of Manpreet to PPP workers. Any further meetings by Charanjit on the same issue would only damage Manpreet Badal further.

When Charanjit was asked the reason for his resignation, he said he felt betrayed by Manpreet who had reneged on all the promises made at the Golden temple in Amritsar before forming the PPP. He claimed Manpreet had filled the core committee with his relatives, including brother-in-law Jaijeet Singh Johal and relatives Darshan Madhir, Amardeep Singh and Jagbir Singh Brar. He said there were only two non-family members in the party core committee.

Charanjit said the PPP which had promised to encourage youngsters to join politics, had changed its earlier decision not to allow anyone to hold a position of profit beyond 65 to 70 years now. Similarly, the clause not to allow anyone a position of profit beyond 10 years had been changed to say “not continuously beyond ten years”.

Accusing Manpreet of being surrounded by his relatives, Charanjit claimed the advice of such selfish advisers had compelled many stalwarts like Sant Ajit Singh, Charanjit Singh Channi and Manjinder Kang, all legislators, as well as former Deputy Speaker Bir Devinder Singh to part ways with Manpreet.

Meanwhile, Manpreet was not available for comment.

  • 2 weeks later...

I just came back from manpreet badal speech in brampton.. it was definitely breath of fresh air... look i know we shouldn't be putting people on pedestal but lets focus on things he is fighting against - corruption, drugs, bribery, lack of health care, clean water.

I think we should give him a chance based on the fact in punjab history leadership its been always back and forth between Congress and Akali Dal. Atleast give him a chance, how bad it could be ? Could it be really worst than congress or akaali das leadership.

I am quite cynical when it comes to trusting any politicians but i must say i see an desire in him to make a difference...Someone mentioned he is staying away from khalistan motto...from political stand point in punjab he should be at this point as it would be political suicide as normal joe blow in punjab don't give two hoots about khalistan at the moment but more concerned about universal issues like - corruption, drugs, bribery, lack of health care, clean water.

In fact, what's the point of talking about khalistan when we don't have foundations in punjab right first, lets clean all the gand in the foundations first - corruption, drugs, bribery, lack of education, lack of health care, unhealthy life (uranium in water).

As far as communism goes, one step at a time, if by communism you can kill two most corrupt parties on face of the earth then why not? if by communism, people see ray of socialism..then why not? People need to appreciate his dedication.. because he definitely got a cause and very reasonable one.

I was starting to get doubtful of him because I didn't hear any positive feedback from sangat, but your reply really made me happy. I am going to try to find the DVD of his speech that he made here in Fresno and upload it to YouTube so people can watch and decide for themselves.

Thanks for your reply. I hope Punjab really turns around.

We should also consider the fact that he chose to become a Patit - he took amrit few years back and recently trimmed his facial hair.

And as a patit he should not and cannot count on Sikh votes. He once stated that he would appear before the Akal Takhat if the Jathedar summons him. Well its the duty of a patit Sikh to present before the Panj Payaras and repent over his misdeeds. Jathedar Akal Takhat is not there to send summons to every patit on this planet.

His addressing 'Fateh' to a Sikh audience can very well be a political gimmickry.

I just like to respond to this...first of all we need to realize we don't live in monarch society anymore where we have sikh kingdom in punjab. Punjab belongs to all the diverse groups not just sikhs...if diverse groups are not hostile towards sikh interest then we should be accepting them as you cannot deny other diverse group living beside you (pakistanis have already tried it, its a failed state...everyone knows it). It's my personal opinion, religion and state should be separate to avoid many underlining issues. We already have it separate where we have sri akaal takth sahib body and cm in punjab. Their roles are already defined...I expect sri akaal takth sahib jathedar and along with sgpc leaders, members adhere to sikh maryada but i don't expect punjab cm to follow sikh maryada as he represents other diverse groups in punjab. I do expect punjab cm follow recommendations of sri akaal takth sahib - sikh interest as punjab govt came long time after monarchy sri akaal takth sahib.

I do find very short sighted that people are nit picking on things this guy personal life as opposed to looking at the bigger picture... what are we waiting for? Are we waiting for messiah to come from sky and give us raaj? So until then we don't vote for anyone who can improve quality of life in punjab just because this dude trimmed his beard and keep voting for parties who have blood on their hands.....sikhs need to learn to be opportunist..everything isn't black and white in this world....every contributions which improves public life is praise worthy,,, regardless who is doing it. Not that i m comparing this guy to be maharaja ranjit singh but if you read maharaja ranjit singh life he used to drink wine and among other things but does that take away all the good he did ? NO...In gurbani, it clearly mentions don't focus on people short coming, take good things from people... if he is on right path for righteousness, we should encourage him to fight for the cause not pull him down just because he trimmed his beard..fine he does that, its between him and guru sahib,...end of the story.....what he is fighting for is daily necessities of life for people - food, jobs, economy, health care, water quality, get rid of corruption..these are universal issues for people living in punjab...its not a race issue...you have to start from the foundation first ...once you get your foundations right, then focus on social issues i.e - cults, missionaries propaganda, dera waads...look we need to be opportunist..this guy isn't messiah or next sant jarnail singh bhindranwale or anything like that ..nobody is claiming that...but he is fighting against corruption which is leading to human right abuses which sant jarnail singh bhindranwale fought for as well... every struggle start with a vision ...whats stopping any one of us to once he wins to capitalize on his achievements and push for more changes?....if he is able to set an precedent in punjab against corruption then we should appreciate his efforts and capitalize on it just we would living abroad for world leaders. Nobody is asking us to make him our sikh leader of sri akaal takth sahib but punjab cm he is asking to give him a chance.

At least his party does not have blood on his hands compare to parties who have their hands dirty with innocent people's blood - akaali daal and congress...its a new party..we should definitely give him a chance otherwise its going to be same old game between congress and akaali dal .....and all this is coming from me who is Canadian who cannot vote there and besides Canada is home for me ... i m supporting him because i see potential in him to get rid of people of punjab suffering ..i am supporting him as i would support movements of arab uprising.

Here is excellent link explains difference between socialism and communism -

http://www.buzzle.co...-socialism.html

Communism is more close towards socialism compare to capitalism in democratic society towards socialism. As i mentioned earlier, backed with our guru's universal thinking - anandpur sahib resolution of sikhs recognized by panth promotes socialism.

Manpreet Badal came to my city. I didn't go to see him because I thought all Badals are the same, but many people I know went to see him and they were all raving about him. I looked up his videos on youtube and he really does seem like a breath of fresh air. He isn't a communist, but he does have economic solcialist leanings. That's what the farmers in Punjab need. It isn't communism, where they don't allow religion. His policy is solely based on economics. Those kind of policies fit well with the Sikh practices of Kirat Karni, Wand Shakna, Langar, and Sarbat da Bhalla. Even if he isn't a perfect amritdhari, he can still be a good leader. Our gurdwaras are run by amritdharis and they are all corrupt. So...I urge the skeptics to give this guy an honest look. I think he is the type of leader we have been waiting for.
