hey all da college and uni students...heck even high schoolers or middle schoolers...anyone going to school---->I need some advice:)

ummm...I wanna try to stay away from the meat at school for lunch. I always end up havin meat for lunch: pepperoni pizza, chicken sandwich, chicken quesadilla, etc.

there is a salad bar and it's like more expensive than the meat food, and i can't afford to pay $6 for one meal a day 5 days a week.

so how do u guys avoid meat and eat good stuff at school for lunch? ummm...u take your own lunch to school? what if u got hecka books to carry?

anyway, help me out, give some ideas, i wanna try this out.

thanx ^_^

The first thing you need to do is start keeping faith on Guru Sahib.

There is a sakhi of Baba Harnaam Singh Ji..

Baba Ji came across the panktee "Bukhe to deat aadhaar" while doing path of Sukhmani Sahib. Baba Ji thought of testing this panktee so he decided to do jaap for 40 days continiously without eating or drinking anything. He asked a local Singh to come and look after his body after the 7th day, he was to leave after checking if Baba Ji was alive and if he wasn't then he was to do antim sanskar of Baba Ji's body. So Baba Ji began the Jaap and 7 days passed by and the Singh came to check Baba Ji's body and when he noticed that Baba Ji was alive he left and didn't return, as Baba Ji had instructed him. 40 days passed by and Baba Ji did bhog of Akhand Jaap. When he came out of the room his body weight had not decreased at all!

So if you believe you will die by not eating for a few hours then you are obviously wrong. Keep faith in Guru Ji and he'll take care of you..

I know that most of us here are not even close to the avastha of Baba Harnaam Singh Ji but his sakhis are always a good lesson for all of us. Always keep faith in Guru Ji and never doubt any of his words.

If you really don't feel confertable without eating anything at school then you can just take some fruits from home or buy some bottled juice. Fruits can keep you packaged for many hours.. You can also rely on home made parshade and things like nuts for a long time..

anyway.. my two cents..

Hershey's candy bar rocks   (now don't say "No wonder you are so skinny" :yehyehyeh: )

hahaha :D

You look great man... grin.gif

I have a good breakfast usually ... and a heavy dinner when i get back.

Yes food is expensive at uni, but i dont know how cali is... but in waterloo i usually buy food from the cafe. On our demand they made a seperate stall for pure vegetarians  <

br>

Than you can also make your own lunch, maybe small snakcs, can bring anything, from chips to little sandwiches that your mom can make by cutting the square sandwich into four.

Just some little ideas, than again, it also depends how far your living fro the uni, is it far or near, you can always use the good exercize and get in shape by walking back home and to uni. (Now i am talkin 'in general' do not get mad at me if u think i called u something.. blush.gif ) ....

good luck !

The best is to pack lunch and save money.

I usually eat at subway or taco vegi meals when I m at skool as they are real close to my uni.

I went for an internship and over there i use to pack my lunch (though I was a meat eater at that time but now i m vegitarian thanks to the sikhsangat's great sangat ^_^ ) beleive me 10 minutes of packing saves a lotta money.

So PACK and SAVE!!! is my "nara".

I eat very less at all when my school are open..

In morning.. a can of kern juice.. then @ night something like a toast tongue.gif (live alone during weekdays so no proper food)

Sometime eat subway only if I make my own by my hand :e: otherwise i sometime do eat stuff here and there.. but yeah thats kinda expensive.. so the best thing is eat heavy breakfast and skip the lunch part and then do dinner.. it won't look good for univ. student carrying lunch box.. blush.gif

    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
