Since Sikhs recieve Gurbani and Khande di Pahul as Raksha Bandan from Panj Payre, We donot believe in Rakhri System; Yet Wearing of Rakhri or Rakhsha Bandan is very old tradition an respected worldwide as sign of unity and commitment. Raksha Bandan was started by Deities,Sages,Rishis/Munis which is now followed in Brother-Sister Relationship; Also Husband-Wife Relationship(i.e. Husband would protect his Wife in all odds).

What a confused person you are. On one hand,"We donot believe in Rakhri System" and on the other hand Sikhs receive Gurbani and Khande di Pahul as Raksha Bandan from Panj Pyaare.

Go and write this nonsense on a Hindu site and not here.

Rakhri didnot started from Brother and sister. It was started when the CHela used to tie a knot to Guru or Murshid's Wrist as a ritual to ensure His guru/murshid protects him from all the odds of life and guide him to correct path.

Your reply is very vague and explains nothing. If the sangat was to accept your vague reply, then lot of their acceptance would be on blind faith on you. No insult to you, but Sikhs only have blind faith for Guru Sahib and no human. Your vague reply does not tell the reader which so called Guru started rakhri. When it was started? Which religion or sect started it?

By your reply, Sikhs should accept the janeu on the same basis, The Janeu did not start from caste system. It was started to give identity to a follower of a certain Guru. They tie the janeu around the person's neck and then clarify that now you are with identity and can classify yourself with prestige and will be guided on the correct path.

See how easy it is to make something that is against Sikhi into a postive ritual.

No Sikhs didn't recieve Gurbani and Khande di Pahul teaching, but all humanity recieved these from Guru Sahib. Guru Sahib never discriminated between religion. Guru Sahib didn't see people has hindu or muslim. Guru Sahib came to make all the humans of the world, the Sikhs of Maharaj. Before there was Khande Di Pahul. Satguru Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji Maharaj started Charn di Pahul. So Satguru already showed to humanity and especially the Sikhs that Satguru is your protector. Whoever wanted protection and wanted to be Sikh of Satguru, they came to Guru Sahib and got Charn Di Pahul.

Rakhri may be a hold tradition, but the janeu is also an old system and Maharaj rejected it as well.

In Gurmat Satguru first blessed the Sikhs with Charn Di Pahul that signified to the Sikh now you are Satguru's Sikh and Satguru is your protector. When it came time for Amrit from Punj Pyare then Satguru Sri Guru Gobind Singh Sahib ji Maharaj blessed the Sikhs with a kara to signify to the Sikhs that you will be protected at all times. Also Sikhs were already carrying swords in the sixth Guru's time. Sikh women were no exception at carrying swords at the Sixth Guru's time. From the beginning Satguru has taught the Sikhs to protect not just a person close to you, but all those that are oppressed. The rakhri is no different than the janeu because it discriminates against who to protect. Satguru never taught his Sikhs to be selective and put a divide among people. When Sikhs took Charn Di Pahul they were accepting the task to protect all.

I can't get over the fact that I was lead to believe that Bibi Nanaki tied a rakhri around Baba Nanak's wrist in their younger days. I learnt this from a Gurughar as a child...!

i know back in the day there were calendar that used to show bebi Nanki tying a rakhi on Guru jis hand. that old painting is what lead people to think its ok.

IF someone wants to tie a thread, its upto that person. It may or may not have meaning for that person, tie it or don't, is there any significant harm in doing or not doing it?

What is harmful is if people get wound up over others tying it, that is something significantly which Guru ji did not teach to us, a rather unacceptable behaviour seen by some sangat!

Bhai Sahib if you or anyone wants to perform this ritual. Then go ahead. This thread was started to educate the sangat here on why the Khalsa Panth does not perform this ritual. Sikhs that teach Gurmat are not police, who will come arrest you. These Sikhs are here to educate us on Gurmat practices and lead us away from manmat practices.

What people get concerned about is, when some refer to this practices as Gurmat. So then Gursikhs speak out and show how it is not Gurmat and is manmat.
