Are Steroids Agaisnt Sikhi?

Recommended Posts

Well, the body is a temple, and we use this temple to reach God. If it doesn't function properly, if we take steroids and it damages us, makes us more 'krodh-filled', then we are hurting our spirituality. Thus, IMO, steroids can take you further away from God.

yes i agree...but if not used for pleasure ...there is not much wrong with it....being a fat tub of lard also takes you away from spirituality because it lowers your energy levels and makes you lazy...but we have plenty of fat singhs around lol...whats wrong with a coupe of singhs gaining an advantage in their speed, strength, stamina, agression....BTW i do not support the use of steroids and believe singhs should train naturally...

Intoxicants disorient your mind causing you to do things or behave in a way different than normal.stuff which you may regret when you're sober.

Steroids are performance enhancing drugs. They accelerate your physical performances, and are really safe if you follow the correct cycles and post cycle therapy. I have personally used steroids and have not encountered any intoxicating effects whatsoever, so classifying them with Bhang and alcohol is absurd.

Even with regards to increase in short temper, Mann jeetay jag jeet.(if you can win your mind, you can win the world) with kirpa of satguru Ji.

I personally see nothing wrong with roids as long as they are taken properly. There's nothing more beautiful than seeing a sabat soorat Singh with a fit body :-)

So what about using bhang and alcohol to numb pain, would that be absurd as well? Or using bhanga to meditate?

A Gursikh would never contemplate using drugs like steroids let alone taking them.

Steroids are used by cheats in Olympics and other sports to get an unfair advantage over fellow athletes. Further to this steroids are detrimental to your health.

Forget proteins powders, creatine and whatnot. An amritdhari should not be into body building which will just increase one's ego. An amritdhari should train to improve health, endurance etc not to build large muscles which have no use in combat.

What nonsense! Using intoxicants to meditate is 100% against Gurmat. IT is impossible to do prema bhagti under intoxication. The true intoxications comes from japping (reciting) Naam and reading Gurbani. Gurbani and Naam is the only good nasha (high) in the world.

Intoxicants give nasha only for a limited time and also cause damage to the body and mind and therefore should be avoided at all cost whether Sikh or non-sikh.

The nasha from Naam is good for the mind and also good for health.

Sarab rog ka aukhad Naam - Naam is the cure for all diseases; ang (page) - 274 sri Guru Granth Sahib ji.

Unless Steroids are being taken for medical purposes, they should be avoided. Typically people who train with weights take steroids for one reason: to get big muscles and get strong. While one can argue that strength and size gained by using (or abusing) steroids can be useful, one can not escape the fact that the potential for them to cause damage to the body is quite large. Most people do not know how to safely use steroids anyway. You can get plenty strong just by adding high quality whey protein to your diet.

Your friends have been brainwashed by others to believe that they have to take steroids if they want to be fit, big and strong. Most muscle heads that you see in inner city gyms take steroids. It is true that steroids can be taken safely without causing long term side effects if you know what you are doing, however, this is not a justification to take them.

Firstly, steroids are performance enhancing drugs and are illegal anyway. Secondly, many people have got fit, strong, healthy, aggressive and become great athletes and great fighters without using steroids. Using steroids is a losers way out.

Another thing is looking at peoples motivations to train. Bodybuilding is a modern phenomenon and is purely related to making your body look big and strong. It is purely superficial and looks related. To me, that is fine, if that is your kind of thing. However, we shouldnt be under the illusion that this has anything to do with strength, fighting ability, fitness or has any correlation with any Sikhi values. Most 'singhs' who do bodybuilding probably think that they are 'representing' in some way like they are some big strong warriors. In reality they probably enjoy the 'rep' of being massive and the respect that monay and other singhs give them when they come up and say, 'yo respect to you singh. You are what a proper Singh should look like!' plus all the female attention they get from having big muscles.

Yet despite that, they will still get banged up by a skinny musalmaan that does boxing three times a week!

The above is the real reason Singhs do bodybuilding. It has got nothing to do with being a saint soldier, strength or fighting ability. Remember, puratan Singhs were never bodybuilders. They were soldiers! And soldiers have to train like soldiers, not like body builders!

Steroids are for misguided self obsessed posers who like to look the part only and crave attention from the opposite sex!
