Ok ok will give him a break as he now does kirtan in solitude in some gurdwara in bc but generally speaking, canadian sikhs need to come up general statement which condemn violence or any kind of extremism these chaps followed in the past..there is no wrong with acknowledging - Hey look, fanaticism is global problem and we are not immune from it..thats all..thats called strong character and acknowledging hey look we got some bad apples to..!!..we need to stop living in denial..i have seen general reaction from public on cbc regarding coverage on sikhs, human right issues, air india etc - one thing mind blogging and apparent in all of the news item readers mention why mainstream sikhs don't release an statement condemning the violence or any wrong doing whether its ujjal dosanj got beaten up (yes he is a twat but he does not deserve to get beaten up) or violent intimidation against sikhs who didn't share same extreme views as hot headed sikhs of that time..!!

Neo you've been going on about that guy for ages. Try and think back to the time he was making the emotional speech. The Durbar Sahib had been attacked and no one knew what damage the haram.zada Indian army had done there and how many Sikhs had been murdered. It wasn't the best thing to have said but that time was an emotional time. So give the guy a break. He didn't actually go out and kill 50,000 Hindus.

I agree. During the 80s Sikhs were extremely angry, especially during 84 when Darbar Sahib was attacked and Sikhs were murdered after Indira Gandhi died. Many Sikhs at the time became very over emotional and said things that were not politically correct. As pro active jee pointed out, it's not like he literally killed 50,000 Hindus you know. You have to be alive during those times to understand. It's very easy for us now almost 3 decades after 84 to point fingers at flaan tamkaan said this and that. It's almost like a self hating Jew today trying to dissect the words of what a Jew might have said against Germany as the holocaust was happening against the Jewish people.

Tell that to western media that sikhs were angry and emotional and made those statements? You think they would care? They won't care and rightly so - why should they care about irresponsible statements being made?

Lot of sikhs came to Canada around after blu-star as a refugee, once they came in instead of protesting peacefully, they made hate speeches against hindus and walked with sense of entitlement. Thats how we are seen that instead of being grateful and peaceful protesting- militant sikhs in canada came in used and abused trudeau charter rights and freedom, used canada as a platform to fight their tribal wars with India..thats not my wording..thats a general perception amongs gorreh's here in Canada.

Onus should have been on us to avoid making irresponsible statements like that if not at least condemn them...because lack of condemnation...how is it still to this day- demonizes us and haunt us back.

Now off course fast fwd to 2009.. dasmesh darbar president in surrey arguing with press and making statements like parmar is a hero- one's terrorist is other freedom fighter...you give that to media..media will eat you alive...it didn't help either..!!! Fine if he is freedom fighter, thats what you think, keep it to yourself whats the point feeding that off to press? Off course, surely press wrote huge negative article painting the whole community with that brush..!!

Anyway point of all this, its takes two to tango. Yes Canadian media is being quite biased against sikhs but at the same sikhs in canada were not flowerly types either... there is no denying we had extremist element in our canadian sikh community which gave community bad name and community incompetent leaders/pardans in canadian gurdwaras did nothing to stop or did any thing to do any kind of damage control in the media..!!!!

Sikhs and most people are not media savvy types and would not have automatically started giving articulate politically written statements to the media after 1984. Sikhs had been major victims of a genocidal campaign so they were angry. Communists and Congress supporters in our own community went to western politicians and media to demonise Sikhs some of those are mentioned in the above posts. What the Sikhs have failed to do is to highlight Soft Target findings in detail e.g. where it mentions Indian diplomats smashed up their own embassy and blamed Sikhs and the huge amount RAW spends on buying polticians , media types and people in our community.

But we do need media trained people to talk to the Government and Media organisations and tell them about the genocidal campaign of India against Sikhs and other communities including Christians in the North East of India.. Apologising for what a lone person said in a moment of anger or what some of the people acting on the behalf of India to give Sikhs a bad name won't help much.

Neo, I seem to remember that when the two Singhs were arrested and charged over the Air India blast some years ago you were the one that was demanding that Akal Takht issue a Hukumnama against them! This was even before the case had come to court! Now, how would that have looked if your advice had been followed and a Hukumnama condemning them had been issued and then they were found NOT GUILTY? You can have extremes on both sides, ones who make irresponsible statements and those who would like the whole community to apologise each time some Sikh makes an irresponsible statement.

The biased media and the sell outs who demonise the community will never allow the Sikhs a right to reply. If they did then we need to point out that the statement was made at an emotional time. If the media doesn't understand that then there's not much we can do about that.

After you read soft target in its totality. You can understand where i am coming from. Sri Akaal Takth Sahib should still issue hakumnama against them as in -asking sikhs should stay away from them, refrain putting their posters in the nagar kirtan and refraining them from representing sikh community in any shape or form.

Bagri (not so much as he is doing kirtan in solitude now disconnected anyway) but malik regardless of verdict outcome need to stop representing the community based on some serious allegations listed in soft target book of him being GOI agent received $1 million dollar no string attached loan from state bank of india . He owns a khalsa school and khalsa credit union bank- he is a powerful businessmen he acts like authority in the panth in bc with lot of following which makes us looks like extremist and fanatics because all though trial found him non guilty but his other soo called chardi-kalah attributes in the trial were exposed such as hatred for hindus, affair, lying numerous times not to mention serious allegation listed in soft target. All i m saying he needs to do realize just like bagri who is doing kirtan in soltitude... for betterment of the panth- refrain from representing sikh community in anyway shape or form- summon himself to sri akaal takth via video link to explain allegations against him listed in the soft target book.

In fact why video link, recently GOI (notorious for torture and intimidation against sovergein sikhs) un-black listed him to visit India..how bloody convenient..!!!

Anyway, here is what soft target books says about them:

Even soft target books puts a huge question park behind talvinder singh parmar and malik characters. The fact that parmar bought a house in burnaby in cash - $350,000 and drove highly value sports car, during those time should trigger an alarm or some what concern among gullible sangat. The fact malik received got his million dollar loan approved from state bank of india should trigger alarms. We need to get rid of little tribal interest or tribal group association with these individuals..fine no one is expecting everyone to declare them outright self styled terrorist etc etc, but we shouldn't be pro-actively endorsing them either in rally etc

Also forgot to mention most important thing that sri akaal takth sahib should do before anything is to excommunicate inderjit singh reyat from the panth, who admitted making the bombs which bought down the planes killed 330 civilians (including 82 sikhs). He admitted making the bombs but didn't know if it was going to use on planes (giving me a flipping break), i don't buy that nor we should - you think we were born yesterday, this guy is found guilty of lying 14 times by same judge who acquitted malik and bagri, now he is convicted of prejury charges. He is found guilty of prejury - he is compulsive liar (how chardi-kalah) cannot be trusted what he has to say in his defense..!!. He is not consistent with anakhi singhs who don't lie, working out an deal (manslaughter sentence) with prosecution to testify against malik and bagri and backed off..!!. This guy is serious stigma (be it GOI agent or cold blooded terrorist) on the panth.!!

Our Canadian Sikh Community members seriously need to rise from silly tribal associations with this person to uphold khalsa ideals. We as community need to condemn him and his actions get sri akaal takth sahib to excommunicate him from the panth- prepare a statement when he comes out from prison, remove these type stigmatic individuals who are super imposing themselves on the community...!!

As i said earlier, lack of condemnation against questionable/dubious individuals and convicted bomb maker makes us look like extremist/fanatics, makes us easy target for media to pry on..!..We have no right whine about bias media against sikhs until we do house cleaning ourselves..!!

N30S1NGH veerji

After 9/11 there were thousands of Americans who were out on the streets and spoke out on national television channels openly demanding that the US bomb and wipe out all Muslim countries. If you think the gorey won't understand such sentiments, I am sorry but you are wrong. Given the kind of scenario Sikhs were experiencing back then is comparable to what the West felt on 9/11. The "call for blood" is only human nature (although not totally human). Where were these gorey when the army and Punjab police were wiping out an entire generation of Sikhs in Punjab? How many of them came forward and stood by our side (except a few of them)? They can't even differentiate between us and Muslims, so its our job to educate them not only about Sikhi (and how its different from Islam) but also on how much Sikhs have had to suffer in India. Its one thing if you don't believe in Sikhs "qualify" to have their own nation, its one thing if you believe that those Singhs who some call "shaheed" are "terrorist", but lets not modify our attitudes only to please someone else who doesn't care about us (like Indian government) or those who don't know and/or don't care to know about us (many *but not all* gorey).

Singh Ji, the whole point of my post is more importantly to uphold khalsa ideals as our muteness or lack of condemnation in the gurdwara against wrong - is on clash course and clashes with khalsa ideals as its set new precedence (sitting mute when it comes to house cleaning) how khalsa should handle situation ..if during the course of upholding khalsa ideals if that helps ease some of negative coverage against sikhs...it should be welcoming as well.!!!
