Ryu, there are various types of self defence, and it is up to the defender how they wish to defend themselves, you can understand ur enviroment and annalyze danger then quickly avoid any confrontation, you can calm down a situation using words, if fists are thrown then you can dodge, push and run away, or you can break every bone in the attackers body, every person has the right to self defence and courts of law they will understand your actions as long as they werent extreme

however if you take out your sri sahib against someone who attacks you, you are in much more danger of being locked up, the case in walsall market is an example. even if someone attacks you with a baseball bat, knife, gun to the head, sword, etc you can get out of it without using your sri sahib, its up to us to increase knowledge of self defence (doesnt matter which art you choose) and become the fauj that maharaj made us to be, being "tyar bar tyar" is more then jus putting on a bana and havin an aad chand on ur dumalla

Sat Sri Akal:

Is this person being assisted by any Sikh organization? Please PLEASE answer this question!!!

_____________________________________________________________

Aiaiaiai!!! Sangat Ji, a person must be pretty trained AND have some experience in real life fights/combat to be in full control of the self in a fight situation. A fight is never similar to the sparring/martial arts bout. Those are very controlled conditions, where your mind is fully aware of what is going on and you know where and what direction the attacker is coming from. Therefore, your reactions are methodical and planned.

In attack situations like these, a person does not have time to sit and think "Hmmm...maybe I should give the guy a left jab and he will leave me alone". A person who has never been in a fight assumes that they will have their senses and wits about them. This is rarely the case. When a person is attacked, their primitive instincts take over and sometimes do not even remember the event, besides a 1 second flash here or there. The higher functions of thought are almost shut down, replaced with the primal fight or flight instincts which do what they do outside of rational thinking. You might be trained to be a high level martial artist, but when taken out of those controlled environments, it is your primal need for survival that can overcome any skill that you would engage in with your higher thought.

There is a reason why the element of surprise is so precious to the army in war. They realize that a well trained force, regardless of how well it was trained in the barracks, will not perform as efficiently against a surprise ambu

sh and will have greater chances to lose. The only way a person can overcome this primal urge is by awareness, which comes from experience of being able to recognize that the conditions that you are entering "do not feel right" and that something might go down, leading to your body and mind prepared for any shock or a surprise attack and possibly preserving that higher function to defend yourself well.

Unfortunately, such incidents will continue due to the extreme ignorance. I was referred to a link once which had information not so much on the actual skill of defendin yourself, but of making yourself aware of dangerous surroundings so that you are more ready to any surprise attacks. Read the site over...to me, it contained valuable information about this type of awareness. The information on te website is quite informative itself, though they do produce books and videos, which I know nothing about. It is written by a former gang member, who tells of some of the realities of the world.

Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa!

Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!!

As far as I know Jagdeesh Singh is an active Singh in the Slough area and is part of the SCAN group (not sure what SCAN stands for). He is also quite active in community issues and is well know in Slough.

I would be surprised if he's not being assited by any Sikh groups.

    • Umm, that's totally irrational, bro. There are plenty of prakash-dara Singhs in Punjab (less than we'd like, but still plenty). No one cares that you are sabat soorat. It isn't 1986. You can walk around in chola, kurta-pajama, or jeans. Whatever. If you want the look @dallysingh101 is referring to, just go into a cheap clothing shop (not a Western-style mall) and buy some shirts for 250 rupees or a track suit for 2000 rupees. You'll get the cheap stuff made in some sweatshop in Bombay.
    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
