In Delhi many Sikhs are converting to Christianity including those who survived Genocide. Guru Kirpa Di Naal some families have returned. Many real much needed projects are underfunded or not funded at all. It is important that funds reach the right places where they are needed, and that funds can be traced to their destination. We work with a Real Sikhi Prachar group in Delhi who are working with poor and needy Sikhs including 1984 survivors, most of their work is funded by themselves.

We highly commend all those individual Sikh activists and organisations who take the initiative to tackle these serious ground issues. It is not an easy thing to commit to real grassroots work, especially with very limited or no funds.

This poor fool knows little about Christian philosophy (or Sikhi) and has been paraded like a circus animal (to recruit others).

Frankly we are surprised he is still keeping his Sikh appearance. If he wants to be a Christian it is his choice but do not masquerade as a Sikh.

Sikhs have a distinct and special appearance, not to be confused with this (self-confessed) alcohol consuming person who did not base his choice on facts and research. Instead, he was desperate.

Any person leaving Sikhi never understood the message of Guru Sahib, never experienced Vaheguru, never had the beej of love through Sikhi implanted in them, never regularly did Nitnem with even 0.1% of understanding, and never had strong foundations in the first place. The list of what they did not do or understand is usually endless. The excuses used are usually pretty pathetic as well and the fact finding concerning Sikhi; due to bad karma stops at like minded people, they have been unfortunate not to find the right Sangat or Purash that can aid and assist them on this Golden Path.

By keeping his external roop for Christians is a powerful tool to convert others who simply dont understand Guru Sahib.

Parchar of Sikhi in India in the basics is sorely lacking just like in other parts of the world. We expect people to enter University before Nursery (Kindergarden) so Katha/Kirtan goes in one ear and out the other. I remember on Sikh Channel where a Singh was interviewing Sangat outside Gurdwarey in various parts of India and the majority could not answer very basic Sikhi questions such as who were the first 10 Guru Sahibs, name 4 Sahibzadey, Punj Piyarey etc. This just shows the level of Sikhi knowledge due to lack of the right type of parchar and why Basics of Sikhi channel is so critical. We should spread its availability far and wide. Ideally we need the same channel but in Punjabi to if not stop reduce these very cases.

The problem is when someone converts they often do so due to some external element which they feel can be alleviated by changes faiths. Of course they can also be open to a re-conversion to their original faith. But a much bigger problem is this attitude where some individuals cry out loud 'oh well we don't need people like you anyway' to converts. In their mentality it seals any prominence which they perceived in their previous faith. The second thing is it is not the amount of prachar which is lacking, but the amount of understanding orbiting the Sikh ethos. Often the view that 'Sikhs believe all faiths lead to God or liberation' is blasted around so many times that even Sikhs start questioning the need for their own faith, and prachar if the next faith also leads to God.

In this democratic world, let them do what they are doing. If these people are converting on their own will then I see nothing wrong.

However, this exactly shows where we 'sikh kaum' need to spend our energy - PRACHAR. We have dozen of NGO, kar sewa, educational schools, hospitals but NOTHING is done for street type prachar. We need to have system where we spread sikhi to all and retain existing Sikhs in their dharam.

I know for fact that in majha region, if someone converts 10 Sikhs to Christianity then that particular person get big fund. If he/she reach certain amount, they will give him land and open a church for them.

I know for a fact that in Jalandhar area there is a convent Christian school that does not charge fees if student and family accepts Christianity as their faith. Majority of population is of Sikhs.

SikhSabgat members did a project several years ago. Please search 'jaswinder Singh'. This family was targeted by local church and forcing them to convert in order to get funds for his medical expense. This Singh is now working for our news site sikhsangat.org

2hr of fundraising held in Southern California and program name was 'Ignite Punjab'. They collected 700,000$ for Christian Prachar in Punjab.

The problem is recognising the underline issue why people are converting to different religion. Do they truly find peace and get treated as equals?

India is a vast country with many different cultures, languages and as communities move from one state to another, its common trait in human-beings to find similarities with your new neighbours. From personal observation of India that is the reason why India has flourished and become a multicultural state. The problems come, when these similarities are not so common and the only way to achieve this is to either adapt & evolve or accept these differences and try to get on. But sometimes the only solution is to change your current outlook accept the majority. This was never the case in historical India (not India as a country but as a land mass), many cultures were accepted as part of the big picture but the problems seem to have occurred in mid 20^th century, where religious identity became the common trait. Well, it made things simple, you followed the same religion as the masses and automatically you are accepted by the masses.

Why is Christian conversion on the rise? They are not part of the masses; the cultural similarities are contradictory from the locals they are converting. So, why are these people converting? Maybe that is the answer, the differences, something new. Christian church is accepting the people for who they are, no caste, everyone is treated as equal.

Where Hinduism, caste system plays a crucial role in the Indian society and the low caste will always be treated like an animal, change Christianity brings, the low cast locals are looking for. For once, the low caste can break out of this vicious culture of caste and stop discrimination against them.

Probably, many are thinking on this forum, why not Sikh dharm, we don’t believe in the caste system, we treat everyone as equals.

Do Sikhs really practise what they preach? We are seeing a common occurrence of many low caste Sikhs breaking away from all Sikh affiliation and creating their own Temples under the banner of Baghat Ravi Das and other Saints. This is on the increase in India and the west.

Many on this forum have stated, we need to push the knowledge of Sikh Dharm to these people and we need to fund these activities but, will it have any outcome? Personally, I don’t think so, it’s not the lack of knowledge these people are deprived off, it’s the feeling of acceptance and being treated as equals. Even now, the Sikh faith is littered with religious leaders who are from Jaat caste and they still continue to push this during the elections. May not be intentionally but it’s the way the Indian society have been raised by the previous generations, the caste system is the core off all Indian person. Sikh faith may not believe in the caste system but do majority of Sikh people believe in it?

Great points to which I agree with you, the Nirmal panth of Akal Purakh waheguru via guru nanak dev ji through his 10 other forms has been hijacked by caste. Hence why people feel the need to convert. If only they put their trust and faith in sikhi and pushed for change and solidarity.

Please don't be fooled to think there is no caste system in Christian communities within India.

I recall a few years ago that there were cases of "low caste" Christians not being allowed into "higher caste" Christian Churches.I believe they were "Kyshatria" Christians.

This is rampant in all sub-continental faiths. It's like HIV AIDS, widespread.

Practically, I don't think caste system is issue within our kaum that is turning away Sikhs to adopt Christianity or other deras. Caste system might be hurdle when there is issue of inter-caste marriage in a family.

Just a basic lack of understanding of gurmat and clear cut gurbani knowledge.
